Another reason why I love small towns is all the old murals you see on the side of buildings. I'm glad you are filming those as you see them. Love seeing them.
What an adventure. Beautiful areas. Hike with view outstanding. Old wagon ruts are a great treasures left behind reminders of pioneers toughness of spirit.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Loved the western town and the cowboy and horse statue. I’m sure the travelers learned very quickly on how to read the sky for storms or any kind of weather. 😉
You’re probably right about reading the sky! Just not sure what they would be able to do if a bad one rolled through out there. Luckily I could drive off at 70 mph 😂😂
I live in Nebraska and specifically in Scottsbluff county and wished I could showed you around. I went the Scottsbluff monument trail like 10 times. And we have some interesting events and crazy high school football games. Thanks for showing American history and determination.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy oh dude, in McGrew - that big Pink Palace, you passed it on your right - has the best Prime Rib or Rib Eye dinner, tater & salad every Thursday night, very affordable. And in Scottsbluff, along your drive up to the monument; you passed numerous areas where the wagon trains have worn paths through narrow rock crevaces, 3 to 4 feet deep gulleys from between the wagon wheels until the bottom of the wagons would have scraped along the ridge left in the middle, high centered at the top for the fast trip down the other side. You filmed wagon ruts at that rest stop along the way - can't hold a candle to to wagon wheel gowdges at Scotts Bluff.
Thank you for doing these videos and for showing the true beauty of my home state I've explored a lot to the east and one side to the other of this great state is pure beauty from Mother nature at it's finest.
Very interesting and sadly places I didn’t get to venture to so do appreciate your great work here. One thing people from the East Coast notice right away in the midwest are the wide open view to the horizon with very few trees.
Thank you very much! I grew up in Ohio and now live in Kansas so I can see if from both perspectives. Must’ve been wild being on the trail in the 1840’s!
I have only been watching your videos for about 4 months and you do a great job with talking up the area before you see the town's. Also you understand that telling us that there's not much left of a certain town doesn't take away from what you see . I'm from South West Iowa a little town of 8000 people Creston it's also a railroad town founded in 1869. You keep doing what you like and I'll keep watching!!
That’s so nice of you to say! I know my videos aren’t for everyone, but I’m glad you found my channel and enjoy them 😊 Creston sounds like a historic town - I’ll have to try and stop there sometime!
Now this one was alot of fun. I live a ways north of Scottsbluff and have been to every square inch of what you showed a zillion times in my trucker days. You were quite accurate in your narrative as far as I know. I hope you had time to stop in at Ole's in Paxton. If not, google it and see what you missed. Fine video. Thanks.
My thought exactly when I saw you in Paxton, Ole’s is a required stop! I wonder if showing the occasional vintage restaurant would help portray the towns as more than drive-by towns. Love your videos.
Very interesting. Even though we are from Nebraska we haven’t seen many of these towns. Was hoping you’d stop by Ollie’s Big Game lodge in Paxton. Maybe next time 😉
Really enjoy your travels through these small towns, you do a great job explaining the history and what goes on present day. Also the aerial shots are amazing, gives you some idea what's left. Thanks for sharing.
The Oregon Trail was about 2000 miles long. My trip ended up being over 4000 haha. I did some side trips as well that'll be featured in some future videos. And anytime I entered a town I drove all around it. It does require pateince, but I also enjoy it a lot! :)
@@TravelwithaWiseguy That is how I would want to do. I think all of these little towns have something to offer whether it be a simple mural, an actual attraction or looking at some of the old buildings and imagining what they used to be. It would take me forever to do a trip like that
@@travis303 I am pretty busy each and every day, and it does get tiring, but after a few days I get into the groove and am excited to wake up and go again!
It depends on how thorough I’d want to do it. I’m sure you could drive straight through in a few days. But if I documented it from beginning to end it would take a few weeks.
So, if you combined both of Courthouse and Jail Rocks together, wouldn't they equal "Jailhouse Rocks"? 🥸 #momjoke (I made that one up myself 🤓, at least I've never heard that one myself)

Absolutely! I didn’t include every mural I saw, but I love that too 😊
❤❤❤❤ thank you again!! I was born and raised in North Platte!! I have DEEP roots there. Always will be be my home town ❤
North Platte seemed like a fun place to be! I had a lot of fun obviously 😊
What an adventure. Beautiful areas. Hike with view outstanding. Old wagon ruts are a great treasures left behind reminders of pioneers toughness of spirit.
I can't imagine what it was like to go through there. Amazing to think about!
Being from & currently living in Nebraska I'm really enjoying all of your videos from my state, thank you for sharing! 🦬🐎🏹🏞❤️
Thank you very much! I’ll have some more Nebraska videos coming up in a few weeks!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy sounds good I'm looking forward to watching them. Safe travels to you & hope you have a Merry Christmas!
@@MrDoodlebug68018 Same to you! :)
Loved your comments about imagining the settlers in the wagons and an approaching storm. That must have been tough to deal with.
It was very thought provoking out there with those storms rolling in. And very beautiful too!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy let me know when you do and I'll definitely show you places that are off the beaten path that are just beautiful and awesome
I’m leaving (from NC) next week to drive this part of the trail. Can’t wait, it’s a bucket list thing for me. I’m really enjoying the playlist.😊
Thank you! It’s a great trip - have fun!

I absolutely love this video. Small town Midwest US is the definition of Americana.
Thank you very much! I agree - such a fun part of the country to explore!
Thank you for taking us on this adventure!!
Awesome video! I dream that I could travel these areas one day. Thank you so much!
It is a very beautiful part of Nebraska! Well worth the trip if you can make it!
Love to format you used in these videos. I have been binge watching them

Really well done and so fascinating .
If you ever make it through Paxton again, be sure to stop and have lunch at Ole's big Game and Bar 😊
I actually ate there on this trip - I just didn’t film it. Very good!!
Man there are so many stories in all of those towns. Amazing.

Thanks a lot! See you Thursday 😂😂
Awesome, what a pleasant surprise! Is it Thursday already? Did I sleep through Monday-Wednesday? 🤣
Haha! For the next 3 weeks I'll be releasing 2 videos per week until the Oregon Trail series is done ... so get ready :)
It would be great if that hotel in Big Springs was still in operation. That looks like it would be a cool place to stay
It looked like it was maybe a museum or something now. I didn’t stop so not sure.
Water tower!
Yes! 😂

Travel with sri lanka..💕
😊
Wyoming, weird as well
White sand beaches on a lake? Is there a lot of Gypsum in the area?
What map did you use for this whole trip?
I'm finding it very difficult to find a map with modern roads and the oregon trail marked on the same map
I used the Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer. Each state has their own map, unfortunately Nebraska was the only one without The Oregon Trail marked.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy ok thanks!
Did you see any rattlesnakes?
Not on this trip 😊
How long would it take for you to travel along the Lincoln Highway?

A large Hispanic community in Gering and scottsbluff
Chimney rock and the scottsbluff monument
I was born in scottsbluff, thank God my parents moved to Sacramento when I was 8 months old
I wish you would have shared the train canteen story. Even briefly Tremendous story
Unfortunately I didn’t know that story until after making the video.
We were out this way in 2014, our first year of full time RV living. It's such beautiful country.
Absolutely! I had never been out that way so it was a very pleasant surprise!
How sad to see all the small towns with hardly any business open or townspeople shopping where have they all gone?
Mostly have either moved to bigger cities where jobs are more plentiful or, unfortunately, older people who have passed away.
