Why?
@@ullabritta8758 he's famous for his guitar "scratching". Others did it too, but it was something people associated with Tom regularly

PauWoW he has no brain because he blew them out

Everybody saying 5 is actually Under Pressure, but nobody remembers that 17 is actually Good Times by Chic
And Em - My Name Is, is Labi siffre - i got the. Really run song
17 is another one bites the dust dummy
samples and swipes from other songs are from the funk breaks genre
Whydafaq Youlyin I hope your joking
and 21 is Pastime Paradise
If these bass lines are fat, then reggae bass lines are obese
CheeseBurger X lmao 😂
That’s amazing! 😂
Well said
As someone who has a mother that plays reggae all the time, you are damn right.
And dub reggae basslines are on the edge of death.
I'm just glad you included Under Pressure
Kariminal7 vanilla ice ripped off queen
Pivotal Masses that’s debatable, but even then it (and Pasttime Paradise) shouldn’t be on this list, because the Bassline itself comes from a different genre
But the bass line was used on a rap song, nobody says Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure are the same song even though it's the same tune?
Pivotal Masses it was actually not a sample he was allowed to use. There was a whole court case about that because he ripped it off and sold it as his own creation even though he stole it from Queen. There’s a video on RUclips where Vanilla Ice actually tries to explain that it’s not the same and fails miserably, it’s quite funny.
10/10
Everytime I hear that Coolio song intro all I think is.."as I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain".
all i think of is the old sonic trailer
Weird Al is pretty tight
but that’s just perfect for an omish like me
you like weird al?
I've listened to that version so many times, I've forgotten how the original goes...😂😂
These all sound like they could be from the Bully soundtrack.
Such a great game and soundtrack
Bro bully soundtrack is a masterpiece in itself, shawn lee is a genius.. my fav track is defender of the castle, the bass is juicy af
Bro I know right
Some of them are actually on another rockstar game
@@natanaelkevin2025 i love that song too i made a bass cover on my channel
No Hypnotize? That bass line is a real bass btw. Crazy right?
Prog Rock Stuff damn right dude
Hypnotize its a sample not an orinigal bass line
uri frish it can be both
My name is by Eminem is sampled and that's included
Even Skandalouz didn’t make it
Can't believe there's no Tribe Called Quest on this list..
Come wit it maybe!
Excursions has the best bass line ever!
Can I kick it?
Verses from the abstract? Bugging out? Sucka Nigga? CMON
Tyrone Blackwood Nonsense! There is no better bass line in a rap song than Young MC's Bust A Move....which shoulda' been on the list goddammit!
Juicy - Notorious B.I.G.
Excursions - a tribe called quest
Buggin' out - tribe called quest
Express yourself - NWA
Mathematics - Mos def
O.P.P. - naughty by nature
Passin me by - the pharcyde
Probably a personal preference but this would be my list
Well too bad that ain't in the video
Stan-Eminem
Excursions 🔥🔥 fire bass lines
Big L-All Black
Buggin Out Bassline is disgusting. I just bought the Low End Theory on vinyl
To everyone who points out the Queen v Vanilla Ice thing, I'm sure he's aware. It was subtle, but he looked really bored when he played it, like... like he was annoyed. Like, "C'mon, really?" I have a feeling he portrayed that intentionally to reveal how he feels about the whole situation. That's theoretical, but it's possible.
Why are people only complaining about the Vanilla Ice/Queen bassline? I mean, there are also other sampled basslines on the list. Gangsta's Paradise and Rapper's Delight both use samples. Walk This Way was originally Aerosmith's own song (1975) but they made a rap version of it in the 1980s.
And of course he was aware of this. If you know anything about hip hop, you know that they use lots of samples in the music.
MaggaraMarine It's just people trying to feel like they know something others do not, which is hilarious because everyone knows it was ganked from Queen. Like it or not, and personally I think it's not an all too interesting bassline, sticking it into a different genre with different context, breaths unique life into it.
Don't forget about rappers delight, which is the bassline from chic-good times.
Or he looked bored because it was just one note...
hushwa5000 My B, B
"Insane in the Brain" at 00:50 straight into "Woo Hah" is so good...I love how you filled in the rest of the production with the upper strings
haha thanks Todd!
Woo Hah is definitely my favorite on here

Perfection
I like how it says "Best rap basslines" and it starts off with drake....
I know, very weird selection. Some good ones, but some really random ones too. I would not in a million years dare to call this a history of rap by bassline, however brief or subjective that history might be. I mean, Vanilla Ice, Drake, Kriss Kross and Weird Al Yankovic?? Come on. Pop radio stuff.
He's a good bass player though.
lsamoa i think the weird al was a jokey joke.
keyword bassline.
lsamoa its not weird al yankovic, its coolio, weird al did a spoof of it...
It's not based on who the best or coolest rapper is but which songs have the nicest bass-line.
i wish i was a little bit taller
i wish i was a baller
i wish i had a rabbit
I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her

no vasaline
best bass beat ever
goes hard as fuck
Ice cube- "summer vaction" as well.
It was a good day
No vaseline and it was a good day both were samples
It's a sample: "Dazz" by Brick
a rap song with a good bassline is Collard Greens by Schoolboy Q
+AwayFive yes it does.
Nothing special
yess i love that one
Brogan Accordion - Madvillian
Rob: uses pick on a bass.
people who don't play bass: what have you brought upon this cursed land
To be fair some of the basslines require a pick
As a bass player, its dumb that people say playing with a pick is "forbidden"
Needed for this exhibition. I don’t play bass and I can see that. Especially on the cypress hills where he grinds the strings.
I play bass and using a pick is like why
@@riskybitness same here🤘😎🤘

Yes
Rick Sanchez no
Rick Sanchez i came for afroman😸
Where's tribe at?
Carlton George I was waiting for it too
I was waiting for that too
I was surprised to not see “NWA- Express Yourself” on the list.
where's that sample from?
robinsss Charles Wright - Express Yourself
You left out NY State of Mind~ Nas
One time for your mind by Nas
yeah that's my favourite!
^^
actually ny state of mind has no bass, thats a piano loop
that gives me saints row 2 vibes lmaoo
00:54 just kills me every time!! XD
also 2:11 through to 2:15 ahaha
2:29 ac/dc - tnt?
No
It sounded like it for a second
It does sound like it too
Spiral out
I mean they based it off TNT so, sorta?
I feel like my ears just had chocolate cake...
zach ballard is that a good thing
Great way of describing it
"sherane a.k.a master splinters daughter" has a great baseline
yes!
cant say your wrong there but so does blacker the berry and untitled 7
One of the best, and certainly my favorite!
First rap bassline I learned
a lot of k-dot’s songs have good baselines it’s because of the jazz influence that’s ever present in his music
I feel like I accidentally stumbled ass backwards into the Rob scallon archives
this is why i wish i liked rap more. i could be a bassist for a rapper and get paid good money to play a few repetitive funky beats in the far corner where there is no spotlight. nobody would know who i was and it would take 10 minutes to learn a new song...but no, no i gotta like melodic metal and fast slap style that i cant play for SHIT.
thanks but i pretty much found my niche with my band. just a matter of knowing your limits and growing with time. and drumming is not an issue, we have a drummer right now that is FANTASTIC, so me drumming would be redundant as a redundant redundancy. now any of us could sing for shit! lol. yea there's that. with time my guitar skills have greatly improved but my singing still sounds flat as Kansas. might have even gotten worse. bands is hard! wait...i take that back. lemme try again. GOOD bands is hard!
Blah Blahsen Lol at you thinking anyone cares about your dumb metal band
Blah Blahsen It's far harder for a bassist to groove out, right in the pocket, without overdoing it. Repeating the style of Alex Webster or Eric Langlois in tech death is overdone.
Blah Blahsen It takes WAY more than you think to play these 'few repetitive funky beats'.
this guy looks like he just walked out of 2004
Not a bad look at all tbh.
Do some Primus covers!
Yes they do!
***** you really don't get it
Jerry was a racecar driver
Primus isn't rap but yes they do suck
Primus are freakin' geniuses okay... they are the only band with a slogan-esque catch phrase that allows true (er) fans to detect other true fans. How awesome is that? xD
Love those stones next to your magazine on your desk...
NO, WAIT THEY'RE PICKS!!!
Ikr... The biggest picks ever.
Lol he plays with boulders to impress Donkey.
Of all the great beastie boy bass lines you chose the guitar chords from ‘no sleep til Brooklyn’?!?
A Rofe ikr

Express Yourself
I'm expressin with full capabilities
+S. Sanchez now I'm livin' in correctional facilities
Love Amish paradise
video for that is so great too
+Rob Scallon Didn't Coolio rip that off of Stevie Wonder's Pasttime Paradise
+BarackOsama yes
0:00 The Motto
0:41 Ice Ice Baby
1:42 In the Club
2:19 So Fresh, So Clean
2:32 Walk This Way
I miss "Lose yourself" of Eminem here
+Samuel Aranda lol
MYZTIKAL TRAPLORD my Nigga... Chill
Next: 100 songs in 1 minute :P
that's a really good idea.
Great :D
Rob Scallon That's also 1.6 songs per second.
It's impossible Bc he'd only be able to .6 seconds of a song to fit all 100
Can all you queen fanboys get out please its just 2 notes calm down
How about Madvillain - Meat Grinder
No it's not it's hula rock
or Bistro from Madvillain as well
only madlib produced the whole album
Johan Delvare Nice icon
Johan Delvare that's exactly what I was gonna comment
Where is Thomas the Tank Engine theme?
That riff in the Eminem track is actually a sample from a song called 'I Got The...' by Labi Siffre, for those of you who might be interested.
Insane song I agree
And the Jay Z song "Streets is Watching" samples a different part of the same song.
NWA's Express Yourself should've been included
nah, parental discretion iz advized
+The_Slayer _Cannibal iz?
BILLY DONUTS yeah, that's how they spelled it
+The_Slayer _Cannibal wow
Besides that bassline is (if i'm correct) originally from Charles Wright's version of Express Yourself.
That bassline from Rapper's Delight sounds a lot like Chic's Good Times.
They're nearly the exact same, I can almost play them both, they just confuse me a bit at the end
both written by nile rodgers
Billy Stark Didn't Bernard Edwards write the bassline?
maybe bernard wrote the chic version but this version definitely by Nile
It's sampled from Chic's Good Times
two of my favourites are
Nas - NY State of Mind
D12 - Purple Pills
simple but effective
Thats the thing with Bass lines they can be super repetitive and boring to play but they are soooooooo necessary
Gorillaz?
Technically they're alternative
+Dorian Walker well he did have bestie boys
+NATE DOGGY DOGG yeah but then again the majority of songs were sucky, so he probably doesn't listen to a lot of hip hop
***** I make electronic music.
***** Do you like my music?
You had the worst tone for this video
i like the sound
+Brendan Fisher someone is jeaulous
You might like the sound, but it doesn't sound like the actual basslines he's playing. Likely because he's picking.
triggered
I think he explained why the bass sounds like mud in his "What basses do you use?" video
Wth!
Mac Miller's "what's the use" has one of the best bass lines everrr
This video is from 2014.
@@charlesknight7715 oh shit!
Appeared on my recommendations and I thought Rob dropped a new video!
Lol my bad!
Gangsta's Paradise should absolutely be two slots worth of bassline. I LOVE this. It'd be cool to have the drum beats under the base lines too. Best Rap Rhythym Sections.
***** No, he misspelled Pastime Paradise.
''Stan-Eminem'' So simple but so GREAT
How the fuck is Hit Em Up / Paid in Full not on here lol. Dude .. this is sinful.
No "U Can't Touch This"... aw :(
oooo that would've been a good one to do those pick slides in.
Technically, that song by itself shouldn't qualify because the beat originally belonged to Rick James' "Superfreak."
+Rawk4Life and nor should My Name Is seeing as how it was taken from I Got The... by Labi Siffre. Excluding samples is pretty retarded if you're making a hip hop list
that fucking guitar pick
handmade purple plectrum
+Texa$Rigged Never trust a bass player who uses a pick... I've learned from experience.
+Ousmane Ag Picks provide slightly different sound from finger techniques, saying you should never use a pick is a bit silly
Manuel Eduardo You have a comprehension problem, I stated "never trust a bass player who uses a pick" I didn't say "never use a pick.." You're catching feelings because you probably use a pick. Let's keep it real. Majority of bass players who use picks, are not doing it for a different sound, they're using a pick because they haven't mastered finger style yet. Go feed those excuses to billy sheenan and stanley clarke.
Ousmane Ag Never used a pick actually, never had to purchase one because I play jazz bass instead of precision, you assume way too much lol. Also, you have a comprehension problem, because you picked up my tone as moody, when I was just making a statement. Simmer down, kiddo.
#5. No, this is Queen's Under Pressure.
Under Pressure isn't rap. The title of this vid is "best rap basslines", not "best rap basslines identified by the names of the songs they're sampling."
@@sam8404 r/ whooooosh
@@negoruivo2492 not really, good try though. And by the way it's woooosh with four o's

@@negoruivo2492 my mistake, thanks for letting me know
Didn't this have another name? Like "20 rap basslines on bass guitar" or something? This new title is so misleading and stupid.
Wat?
The title of the video. He changed it.
Antwon Mianus It's not misleading at all
+Antwon Mianus There's another one where he does rap basslines. Maybe you're thinking of that one
This is the best video I've watched today. Subscribed! :D
Wooo!

Same
But it’s actually sample from Chic - Good times
Funny story, another one bites the dust was actually inspired by the original song.
It's good times dummy
Not a single Rage Against The Machine bassline? Did I step into a parallel fucking universe?
They don't have rap baselines in their songs.
Tor S maybe I don't know the definition of a bassline that well...?

using an electric bass is basically the same thing, just not the same tone
You forgot electric relaxation by tribe
And MF doom, all his stuff is insane
RIP Phife but yeah he should've put that line in there
if you're annoyed he missed this song you should defs defs defs check out badbadnotgood's cover of electric relaxation. i very nearly almost cummed my pants the first time i heard it
Best rap baseline = King Kunta by Kendrick Lamar
True
THIS! This is why I've invested in a sub-woofer.
Makes people look deeper into other music styles there is still great musical talent out there as shown
That was sick though I can’t deny - I was reaally missing Rakim’s Paid In Full
Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat) by Digable Planets has always been one of the dopest basslines in rap.
lol vanilla ice... that sir is Queen!!
But this is rap music!
you don't know much about music??
Flav Man
I know a lot. I'm just pointing out that since this video is about RAP basslines, it makes sense to point out the Vanilla Ice song even though it was sampled from a Queen song.
We don't fight, we all play nice, living in an Amish Paradise
This was excellent. Next time I wanna see some rapping
He should of done electric relaxation
So I had my playback speed set for 1.5x from messing around on another video. Did not know it kept it's setting through different vids. Anyways I'm sitting here thinking, man these rap jams are way faster than I remembered. It wasn't until Busta that I was thinking something's off and checked.....shit had me tripping I was still stoned from way back...
GTA San Andreas...

I kept expecting Real Muthaphukkin G's by Eazy E and it never happened 😞
+DutchWestwood thats a badass song
These are basslines taken from funk and jazz, not rap. only sampled in rap XD
Jordan 'Dingus'Jones no shit
Yes because they cant create their own :)
Gaming Dude can I just say J-DILLA!
......
Run DMC ft. Aerosmith? more like Aerosmith ft Run DMC.
I love Run DMC and Aerosmith but c’mon dude.
thats how it was credited dude. it was a cover that featured steven tyler re recording his vocals. but the instrumental was all Run DMC sampling the original track.
Será Louise oh alright, my fault. thanks.
Love the tie in with Weird Al. Nice vid. :)
I had to.
+Rob Scallon Dont worry, this is totally an acceptable reason cx
Real muthafukkin G's?

Fantastic job, Rob! The Roots has a lots of awesome bass lines, 2Pac too. Few of them for example:
The Roots - The Next Movement
The Roots - The Spark
2Pac - Who do you believe in (sample Jamiroquai - Manifest Destiny)
2 Pac - Do for love
Man you seem so happy. I'm just binge watching ur videos and I'm thinking that it must be really amazing to see the fruits of all your practice and work blaze out of your finger tips whenever you pick up an instrument!
Seriously... Ice ice baby! Vanilla ice stole that riff
Zachary Dell yes i know, but the riff is stolen
Zachary Dell what's the difference?
Zachary Dell sampling is paying the original artist the revenue for using the song and clearing it. in vanilla's case he didnt pay queen or david bowie shit. and he was coming with excuses too. so technically he did steal it
MrUgur97 yeah and when they approached him about it he said that the riffs where nothing alike
Fyi..Rappers delight got its baseline from CHIC's 'Good times'
02:10 all day or until fingers worn away.
I hated your tone dude. Some interesting songs you played from what I could see but my speakers mostly just picked up the pops and clicks of your fingers and pick. What king of EQ settings were you using? Usually a Precision pickup has a better, deeper tone than that. It almost sounded like you were using a plinky single coil on the bridge position with the highs and mids all the way up and the bass all the way down.
MrDeepFriedOnion no, it's definitely his tone.
Yeah the tone is pretty shit to my ears atleast
MrDeepFriedOnion yes, I'm sure your bass boosted ear buds give a more correct sound than my studio monitors. But whatever, I don't need confirmation from anyone to know his bass tone sucks.
Sean Dennis What monitors? I'm running a pair of M-audio Bx5s, and this sounds fine.
It's a pj bass so he could be using the bridge pickup
Stan's missing m8
3:20 Weird Al's parody of Gangster's paradise with Vocals
no Bust-a-Move? Seriously? What kind of bassist *are* you?
Sadpants McGee He's not. He's a Guitarist who plays bass
Sadpants McGee srsly, just came here to post that. no Bust a Move, no credibility.
+Anthony Spencer He's actually a bassist that plays guitar. He learned bass first
pls do more of these kind of videos they're great
0:41 HAY YOU, THAT IS NOT ICE BABY, THAT IS UNDER PRESSURE
excursions tribe called quest....
The tritone in Deep Cover is what gives all the feeling to the song. Would be a totally different story if they went with the obvious flat 5th.
flat (or diminished) 5th is a tritone. You mean "perfect 5th"
heck yah that was unreal I can't believe that was 8 years ago there so many on here I wanna learn now loving bass and hip hop rap music
I'm so glad that Vsauce showed this video! Great video man!
Same! and thanks :)

+Liam Moop I don't know, but its probably a bidipi
Super respect for the Weird Al bit!
