Makes me wonder why they didn't just add a removable back cover like the Galaxy Nexus. It was very thin and Motorola could have made it customizable too.
Definitely would have been a more logical option to make it removable!! And allow for after market options. I'd love to see someone make custom backs for it. Metal, wood or ceramic. Based on how it stands now.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Definitely ceramic, wood, carbon fiber or some other exotic radio transparent material that is sturdy enough. I can see someone making 3D printed backs for it.
If you'd like to know why I couldn't get my Nexus 6 replaced by Google/Motorola (which I tried), please read this article: 9to5google.com/2015/01/30/nexus-6-logo-letters-peeling-fix-video/ Was told that this was a cosmetic issue and no replacements would be offered.
Dude, i like your videos and not trying to be rude but just to point out you now might have hurted someones feelings... You just dare to say "It's only 15 dollars, who cares" Everyone might not be as rich as you or some other famous RUclipsrs. For me and many other people 15 dollars is much! I mean, think if some millionaire would say to you "It's only million dollars, who cares" You really have to start thinking of other peoples feelings, not just yours.
For those struggling to get the back cover off you can work around the edges of the back cover with a blow dryer. Don't heat one specific spot excessively but that helps loosen up the adhesive a ton! - Experienced Repair Bro
Snazzy Labs Yep. That's an option as well. I just followed iFixit's teardown for this removal. Can be found here: www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+6+Teardown/32877
My "Nexus" on the back of my N5 fell out just from ambient heat. If Google could never use that kind of design again that'd be great. In other news, N6 fail... bugger.
$700 ish for a phone where the back details fall apart, I'm android all the way, but Google really need to rethink the pricing on this...and I hate to say it but you wouldn't get that on an iPhone.
***** that's true I guess, don't get me wrong I love android but you can't deny that you shouldn't have to replace the back of a phone only a few months after it got realised! Nice vid BTW!
Tom Barrow Oh for sure. I was baffled by the whole situation. As for the guy below here that said he's glad he went with Nexus 5, that had a similar issue. It's pretty ridiculous.
Hi, nice video, i want to switch my xperia z ultra and get nexus 6 right now (november 2015) but im worried about screen burn in and Pinked screen, have you any issues with your nexus 6 screen?
Dude - props for this video. My white Nexus 6 letters were driving me nuts so I followed your video and BAM looks so much better. Only issue I actually had was the camera FLASH actually came out of its housing. It was simple to put back in (its not attached by any wires and literally just clips in) and I was good to go. Thanks again!
For those who are saying "A sticker? Wtf???" it isn't literally a sticker. It is nicely made and these things happen. No phone is perfect, everything has flaws.
dude good video i have a pretty awesome idea, since the nexus 6 back cover is just a piece of plastic attached with adesive to the back you could replace it for like the slickwraps natural series skin wich are made out of real wood and could easily replace the actual N6 back cover!
I remember this hapenning on my M8 and it was so annoying. The only problem with that was that I had to replace the whole metal body instead of just a plastic cover. I'm sure a heat gun would be helpful. I wonder what it looks like when you have the blue frame and put a white cover instead of the dark blue....
Thank you, I've got different problem with it. The back panel of my nexus 6 starter to protrude and it's a bit opened now. All the dust and dirt can access to the inside of my phone. I'm afraid it's something wrong with my battery :'((
I've actually seen someone say that when they removed a skin, it took some letters with it. This was with the skin that had the letters precut on it. still managed to pull a couple of them up at the edges. :(
actually this might be good (not to say that poor build qualty is good) but what i mean is because the back is more like a sticker as dom implies in the video manufacterers can make replacement back covers for different colors and textures and if you think about it it's more like an unintended featur than a flaw there are already stickers that you apply on the original back cover but they are bulky and weird so if manufacteres find a way to weind this situation they might get something out of it, again this is just my opinion
same thing with my nexus 7, it's starting to come off, will most likely use nail hardener or clear nail polish on top of em... or apply super glue of some sort...
Any bets it is caused by the heat generated by the battery during fast charge! From now on I am using my spare Samsung Galaxy charger, slower but little heat generated to cause the adhesive bond to fail!
i have had my nexus 6 for over 2 years now and i haven't had any issue's with the letterings makes me wonder what the heck u were doing with ur phone i use mines everyday.
I know this is a bit unrelated kinda but, is anyone else experiencing a weird buzzing sound coming from the top speaker on the nexus 6 when switching between apps?
I'm gunna do this soon so I can finally own the white one that's so hard to get much brighter. I love that its a sticker so smart on their part because of always being able to keep it fresh only problem is once it's off its off for good just like a real sticker.
The letters on the back of my nexus 5 also peeled off. This occurs because of the extra heat induced by wireless charging in my case I even prefer the phone without them! But glue + wireless charging are not a good mix!
blackfear1562 They will not replace it. I mentioned this is a previous comment, but they don't consider this a defect. It's "only a cosmetic issue." Spoke with Google support. Motorola has ignored it so far. Check out the article I've linked in the description for more info on my experience.
***** sorry I missed that and I'm sorry this happened to you it makes me happy that I went with a note 4 instead again sorry about that and keep up the great videos
***** no problem man also can you do a video in the future talking about which carrier you prefer best and why especially with t mobile doing all these cool new things in the industry
looks like motorola did not think through of the industrial design...thats a bit sad when knowing there will be a lot of wasted plastic covers because of the peeling of letters...(know we waste a lot of plastic everyday)
Hey, you should probably mention in the video (annotations or whatever) that people should ground themselves with ESD wristbands when doing stuff like this. That's an expensive piece of hardware to destroy with static electricity!
I'm a huge Android fan, but the Nexus 6 was a disappointment. Nexus 5 was a master piece and an updated version would be splendid. Happy with my M8 for now, but that pure Google software is great.
I find it crazy that people are having these issues with the Nexus 6 whereas my launch day device has yet to have any hardware issues. Then again, my phone has spent every day in a case...
So after a month letters peeling off from a £500 phone, such an amazing feeling. Yes, its cheap and easy to replace but that's not the point. I really don't like Google's evil plan with the N6 here.
It seems as if this phone has a lot of problems. I couldn't stand seeing this phone stutter and then realized that Nexus 5 ran lollipop better for me. Barely see any stuttering at all
This probably isnt going to be an issue for me i allways have my phone cased whether its a cheap case to a an expensive case the phone must at all times be cased at least for me tho i have never owned a phone that i would just use without case or screen protector so all you people that case your phones dont even sweat this at all
Very dissapointing first the poor battery life, many software bugs and the smudgey back, then the pink screen and screen burn in, now the nexus letters are peeling off?? What a huge disappointment. Google should be embarrassed to call this thing their flagship!

It's a little ironic that the point of failure is the excessive branding on the back of the phone. Great work Dom! :)
***** LOL I never thought of it that way.
I'm on the same phone in the pic
heloooo can u do a review of the hp stream 11
pls
***** Excessive branding? Lol.
Makes me wonder why they didn't just add a removable back cover like the Galaxy Nexus. It was very thin and Motorola could have made it customizable too.

***** Same goes for carbon fiber...

Motorola Mobility Take action with your Nexus 6!
***** I heard about that as well.
***** Hell yeah!

Tom Barrow Oh for sure. I was baffled by the whole situation. As for the guy below here that said he's glad he went with Nexus 5, that had a similar issue. It's pretty ridiculous.
Jose R Good point, I'd like to see an all metal HTC nexus. HTC are killing it lately, the m9 leaks look insane!
***** I've had my Nexus 6 since release day and it's been going strong since. No damage or faults at all. Maybe it was certain units?
Is there a way to replace the camera sensor with a better one? That would be awesome!
petey1115 LOL. That would be nice.
or... you could put some tape around the letters and paint it with nail polish...(silver one)
that's the same thought i was having (well not with the nail polish paint) its a good Idea. isn't it?
Hi, nice video, i want to switch my xperia z ultra and get nexus 6 right now (november 2015) but im worried about screen burn in and Pinked screen, have you any issues with your nexus 6 screen?

Isaac Torres No problem! So glad it helped you!
So could you replace it with a custom back like sand stone sort of material for instance?
What's the name of that instrumental at 0:50 *****? Can you share it plz?
For those who are saying "A sticker? Wtf???" it isn't literally a sticker. It is nicely made and these things happen. No phone is perfect, everything has flaws.
Wish the video showed the beginning of you wedging the pick into the back because i'm trying right now and its really difficult
Were there other colour options and textures available?
I have the some problem with the back letter branding on my LG G2.After 3 months of usage they peeled off
is it still water resistant after you replace the back cover?
Random question but, what size width is your ring? 7mm?
dude good video i have a pretty awesome idea, since the nexus 6 back cover is just a piece of plastic attached with adesive to the back you could replace it for like the slickwraps natural series skin wich are made out of real wood and could easily replace the actual N6 back cover!

I'm sure a heat gun would be helpful. I wonder what it looks like when you have the blue frame and put a white cover instead of the dark blue....
What do you think about to put a white cover on a blue Nexus 6? could be good?
I replaced my midnight blue back cover with a white back. It looks quite nice
Thank you, I've got different problem with it. The back panel of my nexus 6 starter to protrude and it's a bit opened now. All the dust and dirt can access to the inside of my phone. I'm afraid it's something wrong with my battery :'((
No guarantee exchange option?
Kanat Bektureyev not for Kazakhstan :(
The same happened to me with my Htc One M8, it's stupid that a "premium" device has this kind of problem.
A dbrand skin might help prevent the issue. Nice video, though! :)
I've actually seen someone say that when they removed a skin, it took some letters with it. This was with the skin that had the letters precut on it. still managed to pull a couple of them up at the edges. :(
***** Ah! Damn, that's a bummer /: hopefully that won't happen to mine.
***** Just took mine off to check, and my letters are still on the back. I guess I've got a sturdy set of letters on mine.
Alexander Ruiz Yeah I mean this definitely won't happen to everyone, but there have been some forum threads around the web for sure.
***** Yeah, really a bummer this lettering problem wasn't fixed for the N6. Anyway, great video, man!
actually this might be good (not to say that poor build qualty is good) but what i mean is because the back is more like a sticker as dom implies in the video manufacterers can make replacement back covers for different colors and textures and if you think about it it's more like an unintended featur than a flaw there are already stickers that you apply on the original back cover but they are bulky and weird so if manufacteres find a way to weind this situation they might get something out of it, again this is just my opinion
My NEXUS 6 volume suddenly drop when i heard some music or apps.
Battery Full or Low.. still drop.
I DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. PLEASE HELP
it only does it if the battery goes low.
same thing with my nexus 7, it's starting to come off, will most likely use nail hardener or clear nail polish on top of em... or apply super glue of some sort...
Any bets it is caused by the heat generated by the battery during fast charge! From now on I am using my spare Samsung Galaxy charger, slower but little heat generated to cause the adhesive bond to fail!
Nice good to see someone fix a problem rather than complain. keep up the good work :) ps What's the hat the right speaker?
Thanks! It's an "Us Versus Them" hat.
Cheers man.
i have had my nexus 6 for over 2 years now and i haven't had any issue's with the letterings makes me wonder what the heck u were doing with ur phone i use mines everyday.
The same thing happened with the letters on my N6 and I ended up peeling them off as well. It happened earlier in February.
#Peelgate has begun!
Meh Google isn't that popular yet to create that kind of buzz and it isn't big deal anyways
Shaker Chabarekh Did you just say Google isn't popular?
***** Google is a good search engine but nothing tops Lougle.
Shaker Chabarekh LOL Google isn't that popular yet? Man you tripping...
I'd say that the Nexus 6 #Gluegate is more serious, because of the expanding battery that might explode...
You come across as a really pleasant guy :) Thank you for the info, I just got my nexus 6 last week.
I'd like to mention that this is a $700.00 (With tax included) device and it's a travesty that such things happen on such an expensive phone.
A sticker?!? That is some cheap-ass BS!!!!
Dean English "its like a sticker" he set that , its not a sticker.
+Sergio Velasco Its 300$ now. It happened to stupid people. The newer batches do not have this issue,
***** Yeah, that device was definitely overpriced at launch though
i like the back without the letter, looks better lol
Like the Nexus 10
Jose R $650 Idiot.
Jose R Lol, I'd rather some stickers on my $700 phone peel off than my $750 phone bend, breaking it.
Rambi Ninethousand True that lol.
Yep, me too!
I had familiar problem with my HTC m8s,all letters fall of,I just simple fix all missing letters with black pen, now looks a lot better
I know this is a bit unrelated kinda but, is anyone else experiencing a weird buzzing sound coming from the top speaker on the nexus 6 when switching between apps?
I believe that this is the best channel for technology
Sam Sult Thank you, Sam!
You're welcome
Thank you!!!
My N E signs were falling off too!
Not sure if I am going to do that tho.
LubenGTR No problem!
can I order a black back for a white phone or no.
DatCoolGamer - IsReality yeah u can
Thanks.
Are there skins that are like this?
I'm gunna do this soon so I can finally own the white one that's so hard to get much brighter. I love that its a sticker so smart on their part because of always being able to keep it fresh only problem is once it's off its off for good just like a real sticker.

Why wouldn't you just have google send you a new one or just idk say leave it be rock a case all these options are smarter then voiding the warranty

Oh no problem man! Also, I highly doubt this repair would ever be detectable if it came down to it. Either way, I'm happy now. Thanks for the support!
***** no problem man also can you do a video in the future talking about which carrier you prefer best and why especially with t mobile doing all these cool new things in the industry
The same exact letter thing happened to a whole bunch of nexus 5's including two of mine
looks like motorola did not think through of the industrial design...thats a bit sad when knowing there will be a lot of wasted plastic covers because of the peeling of letters...(know we waste a lot of plastic everyday)
It looks better with out the nexus stickers
Ben Pallack Even so, NOTHING should "peel" off a $700 device.
You sir are 1000% right haha nothing should peel off its incredible they didn't pay more attention to the design
Dom Esposito It's now $300 now lol
After this I am done waiting to buy Nexus 6, I am getting OnePlus with finger crossed they will release Lollipop by Valentine Day!
Hey, you should probably mention in the video (annotations or whatever) that people should ground themselves with ESD wristbands when doing stuff like this. That's an expensive piece of hardware to destroy with static electricity!
I'm a huge Android fan, but the Nexus 6 was a disappointment. Nexus 5 was a master piece and an updated version would be splendid.

i have that issue too..
my nexus sticker just come off too..
maybe ill try that menthod
thanks man
I find it crazy that people are having these issues with the Nexus 6 whereas my launch day device has yet to have any hardware issues. Then again, my phone has spent every day in a case...
why arent your monitors connected?
***** They are connected. That's just bomb cable management haha.
Really didn't know the Nexus 6 had an issue with those letters on the back....that's a bit of a shame for a device that costs as much as it does.
As an iPhone 6 plus user, I probably shouldn't be talking, but a design flaw is a design flaw nonetheless.
2:45 definitely pulled this out, then broke the clasp :(
had other colors ?
Did they not learn from the nexus 5?
Nice work Dom.
Awesome Video Dom!
what tattoo is that ?
Iphone 6 plus bends, nexus battery swells the cover off and peeling letters. Note 4 ftw!
Use a little heat and the back might come off easier. Blow dryer or heat gun
damn, dom.. I'm worried that in a couple of month you will be so thin that you'll just disappear! :) love your videos!
Magma Kum Hahah Thank you!
So after a month letters peeling off from a £500 phone, such an amazing feeling.
Yes, its cheap and easy to replace but that's not the point.
I really don't like Google's evil plan with the N6 here.
nexus 9 and 6 have flaws in their build quality
Nexus 6 build quality is far superior than the crappy Nexus 9.
Shellymon. HD That doesn't say a lot for the Nexus 9 then does it?
TalesOfWar Yup a lot.
It seems as if this phone has a lot of problems. I couldn't stand seeing this phone stutter and then realized that Nexus 5 ran lollipop better for me. Barely see any stuttering at all
It does not look so bad with all the letters off, i think it is even better looking actually :D
Good job, but I think the phone looks massively better with just the embossed letters and without the shiny bits.
I have same problem on Nexus 5 but it ain't so easy for repairing :)
This probably isnt going to be an issue for me i allways have my phone cased whether its a cheap case to a an expensive case the phone must at all times be cased at least for me tho i have never owned a phone that i would just use without case or screen protector so all you people that case your phones dont even sweat this at all
Just get a skin from dbrand and call it day, makes your phone look even better, more grip, and nothing can go wrong
+DomEsperito But doesnt almost every Highend phone have a flaw? Kof kof Iphone 6 Plus kof kof
Yea, I really don't see why anyone would go for a Nexus 6 over the Moto X 2014.
Can you just buy the letters??
I wish they had kept the nexus five form factor
Just opt for a replacement device!
Anyone who says this is as good as the Note 4 is a straight up blind fanboy.
Very dissapointing first the poor battery life, many software bugs and the smudgey back, then the pink screen and screen burn in, now the nexus letters are peeling off?? What a huge disappointment. Google should be embarrassed to call this thing their flagship!
same thing with my nexus 5..
Did you know that those 15 dollars can be a whole day food for a family of 5 in my country?
I know letters on a $700 phone's backpanel should never come off, but it looks waaaay cooler without them... If I had one I would've been peeling them off myself instantly lol
Great video. Point blank it's pathetic they would pass this off to people that's typical Google.
It's pretty much plain and simple for me #Note4isboss period.
Definitely a case of the ball getting dropped and both companies refusing to pick it back up.
awesssssoooommmmeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.FIXED MY NEXUS 6
WOWWWWW!!! HELP ME A LOT THANKS DUDE
And they TOTALLY could have made the battery removable from the look of it. Wth.
People simply keep trust on big brands and go buy their products. But these big brands just gamble on the trust of their loyal customers. Here in case of N6 in particular people are paying around INR 40,000 (Indian Rupees) and these so called big brands, in case of nexus brand two major companies Google and Motorola, can't even furnish the quality for their product. Wow talk about the build quality of this phone
TBH, it looks so much better without the letters.
really helpful video thx a lot
So you're just going to replace the back cover every time the NEXUS letters fall off? You just paid $700 for this phone and you're spending another $50-100 over its lifespan! I'd just find some silver nail polish in Poundland. My sisters probably have some lying around; I'd keep my quid and use that!
Disappointed with Nexus 6 and 9.
I would have rather left it like that and removed that stupid m from the dimple..#stealth-mode.
It's look better without the letters though.
Thank you guy!! I have this problem, and I found the way to fix it. Subscribe ;)
Thanks a million great video
What's with Google!? They were doing great with LG!
I actually like the look of the nexus better with the letters fallen off
They should reconsider the pricing of nexus
