Being and satellite engineers for more than 2 decades what i can say is , KU bands bandwidths are cheaper compared to C bands but are very prone to water and rain .. This face huge problem during rainy and snowy times and just don't work in heavy rain, fogs, snow etc.. . 40-50 Mbps lai 40 hajar is by no mean cheaper than ftth... That's impossible with the given technology .. Latency is the biggest issue in satellite communication .. Yes this good for disaster recovery and could be used as a backup connection for some critical sectors ..

Great to know, satellite are shifting to Ka Band which is cheaper than Ku Band. Research have shown Ka band is less vulnerable to rain , if you are interested can visit our site, most welcome
Yes latency is a key concern for GEO but many applications can still run with such latency
