  • Ready to explore more beautiful homes across New York and California? Open House host Sara Gore leads the way as we step into five more stunning spaces in this week's all new episode.
We kick things off with real estate gurus Tarek El Moussa & Heather Rae El Moussa, who are known for dishing out helpful tips and hacks on HGTV, invite us into their warm and spacious Newport Beach, California home that they share with their three children and adorable pup Buggy. Their vision for this renovation was a sleek hotel aesthetic, which they accomplished through custom wallpaper, a bar area that greets visitors upon stepping through the front doors and is accented with a bright statement piece chandelier, as well as black countertop and chairs, and a chic-yet-functional style that reflects their unique personalities and needs of their family.
We then step inside the stylish loft of Hannah Bronfman and Brendan Fallis. See how the entrepreneurial power couple transformed this cavernous downtown NYC factory warehouse into a contemporary dream home for them and their two young children, Preston and Claude. Since purchasing their home a little over four years ago, they have been renovating it into a triplex that includes a mezzanine level that consists of the primary suite, main level, and lower level with two bedrooms, media room, and a conservatory (atrium). Overall, they wanted to create a home that felt warm and inviting, but could also accommodate large groups for family gatherings and dinner parties - so they turned the living room into an optimal entertaining area with an open-floor setting, plush communal sofa, record bar, and large coffee table. As for one of the focal points in this expansive space is an overhead art piece light fixture called the 'floss coordinates' that's actually five different chandeliers that's been worked up into a cone and not only pulls in the brass from the mirrors left behind by the previous owner but also draws you into the center of the space.
After that, architect Leah Solk invites us into a recently completed project: a brownstone in Greenwich Village. One of her goals in renovating this historic New York City apartment (originally constructed in 1839) was to revitalize it, open it up so that you could see through it from front to back, and fill it with warmth and character - all while maintaining its architectural integrity - which results in a beautiful fusion of modernism and Greek revival elements. From the multipurpose vestibule with its whimsical 'Alice in Wonderland'-themed wallpaper to the communal living/dining room with a wood-burning fireplace and large windows that flood the area with natural light, this floor-through home offers visual flourishes along with versatile functionality.
Next: Get ready to step into an eclectic house of oddities and curiosities. Artist and animator Mike Guerena, who's worked on television series such as 'Mission Hill' and 'Bob's Burgers,' invites Open House viewers into his private home in Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California that he shares with his wife and shows us around his rare, unique, and "strange" collectibles. According to Guerena, who is an avid collector of art and memorabilia, guests are usually pretty shocked at all the items he's amassed over the years, but to him they are treasure finds that have more to do with creativity and personal interests than how much they're worth. "I just like the way it looks - the beauty of it," he explains. "I can tell you a story about every little thing on that wall."
Finally, we wrap up the episode with a trip to Bellport, New York to join designer Phillip Thomas for a tour of one of his gorgeous projects that fosters a sense of fun from the moment you walk in and was designed to share with friends and family regardless of the occasion. He shows us around his client's home which is expansive yet intimate, and encourages easy celebration inside and out.

The Greenwich townhouse had great architectural ideas but kind of depressing. The SoHo loft wins hands down!

Home #2 was ruined… you can find videos of the way this space looked before. It was full of historic charm and warmth. Looks so common now.
