We don’t. You only pat people down who cause an alarm. I do an average of 1-3 full pay downs a day after screening hundreds of people via the metal detector, x-ray, etc. However, if they do get screened using the body scanner we do what is called targeted area pat down. We only pay down the area shown on the body scanner that has alarmed not a full body. A lot of celebrities and rich privileged people feel because they are famous or rich they above security and because they are known we should never pay them down. I think they may be embarrassed. A private screening room should be offered whenever pat downs are necessary. But, no one is above security not even myself. When I fly I go through the same screening.
Theyre probably thinking 'dont think youre so special that i want to be touching you. I hate this just as much as you so let me do my job then this can be over quicker.' 😂

My id was a paper at the time so I needed to be “screened”. The process of the TSA search would make anyone feel violated especially without a strong sense of self. I can fully understand Diana’s statements! She was being honest in the moment and needed to vent her frustrations to release the shame and embarrassment she encountered. Speaking truth! On the flip-side, they are keeping us “safe”. TSA gotta do better!

I’ve also had pat downs in the US, which was fine, it’s not uncomfortable generally they do it as quickly as possible and then you move on. That's not what she actually has at the bank. She used to fly private but she stopped because private is extremely expensive and would take out a large portion of her income just on operating cost alone. Remember she's the one paying for her band and concert team income and travel expenses while keeping up her own lifestyle. So she can't ball out of control as much as you think.

This same thing happened to me with TSA. I felt extremely uncomfortable. The way she did it was very aggressive. And when I flinched she yelled at me and told me not to move. And when I said I was sorry and that I was uncomfortable she laughed and said with no comfort in her tone, “It’s just like detailing a car.” In shock I responded, “No, no it isn’t.” She then told me I should wear tighter pants... I was wearing leggings.😮🤦🏼♀️ TSA has the important job of helping America safe and secure. That day I did not feel safe or secure in the hands of the TSA woman working at the Portland airport. Violating someone and treating a human like a “car” is no way to protect and serve. I feel for TSA, I know their jobs are hard. But it’s not what they do, it’s always how they do it that matters. I have felt safe and I have felt violated, two different people doing the “same” job.
I went through this at LGA airport I felt like a piece of meat I am a woman of a certain size and they pat me down like real intense I had on an underwear bra And some jeans with Rhinestones and Lawd have Mercy it was on While the males stood and gawked .... I thought it was because of my jewelry... But it was apparently my butt that was the center of attention at 8 am on a flight to Raleigh...
Went to the UK for holiday and going back home they searched me and it was uncomfortable. The lady didn't explain anything she just started feeling me up and it was invasive. I feel bad for the people who've been violated and then has to go through this, it can be triggering for them.

I work at BWI and I feel the same way as Diana everytime I get checked. No one is saying that they shouldn't check you but the check does not have to feel like you're being molested. PERIOD.
I was at Newark airport when they patted me down. Maybe because I had a tampon in. My then 3 month old baby was screaming, needing to be fed, and I couldn't touch him, it was the worst. They made my husband and 2 sons stay away. The woman was rude about it, too. That day was the worst

For some people that has experienced sexual assault that "pat down" can be very traumatic. I know it's necessary for security but I wish there was a better way. Especially when dealing with children.
When this happened to me, every single step toward getting on our plane went sideways for me and my sister. We were so being schedule and depressed-- that when the security guard asked if I wished to be checked privately (I normally would)--I was like, get ya life bih! 😣 😂😂😂
When I went out of the country I had to go through the body scanner. No one patted me down but I did forget I had sunglasses on my head and had to go through the scanner again. I was embarrassed but my TSA officer was so kind and held my sunglasses... then commented that "he could understand why I forgot to take off my (Gator Magnum) sunglasses because they are so light". I felt so much better about the need for a rescan and I thanked that TSA agent for their understanding. I will say this though... If I don't have to fly, I prefer driving because the only pat downs I can expect are from my husband ... wink wink ;)
I never ever want the tsa to search me like that. I am with Ms. Ross that would make feel uncomfortable and violated. I am going to add I would feel gross. Thats alot.

TSA has the important job of helping America safe and secure. That day I did not feel safe or secure in the hands of the TSA woman working at the Portland airport. Violating someone and treating a human like a “car” is no way to protect and serve. I feel for TSA, I know their jobs are hard. But it’s not what they do, it’s always how they do it that matters. I have felt safe and I have felt violated, two different people doing the “same” job.

And some jeans with Rhinestones and Lawd have Mercy it was on
While the males stood and gawked ....
I thought it was because of my jewelry...
But it was apparently my butt that was the center of attention at 8 am on a flight to Raleigh...

Went to the UK for holiday and going back home they searched me and it was uncomfortable. The lady didn't explain anything she just started feeling me up and it was invasive. I feel bad for the people who've been violated and then has to go through this, it can be triggering for them.

I think she just doesn't think she should be checked because she is Diana Ross. It worked years ago for attention, why not now in this me too era.
Because the stories have been shared so much that getting the release search by TSA is just a part of flying. She should have had clear or TSA PreCheck but if they have to check your crotch it just is what it is

Ms. Ross was not the only one to complain about this. I remember K. Michelle has mentioned this before, and non-celebrities have tweeted about feeling violated or uncomfortable with them doing those types of security inspections.
Theres nothing they can do about it, they have passengers to protect. They don't care about your feelings when it comes to peoples lives.

They're the ones shooting us up, bombing buildings (churches apparently again), setting fires. I could go on. For instance, take what happened in New Zealand. New Zealand didn't come to the states shooting up the joint or bombing anything. A white American male went to their country and shot up the joint. 43 people. How did he manage to get those guns out of the states? Where was TSA and their intensive checks then? God knows what he was thinking on that plane. My point was, do your job, but there is such a thing as doing too much.

I work at BWI and I feel the same way as Diana everytime I get checked. No one is saying that they shouldn't check you but the check does not have to feel like you're being molested. PERIOD.
I was at Newark airport when they patted me down. Maybe because I had a tampon in. My then 3 month old baby was screaming, needing to be fed, and I couldn't touch him, it was the worst. They made my husband and 2 sons stay away. The woman was rude about it, too. That day was the worst

Unfortunately, it is customary for TSA, Airport Staff and Flight Attendance to treat black people in the U.S. with disrespect for no other reason than the fact that it is now considered trendy to be rude and passive aggressive. Its a culture of disrespect in the U.S. that needs to called out!

For some people that has experienced sexual assault that "pat down" can be very traumatic. I know it's necessary for security but I wish there was a better way. Especially when dealing with children.

When this happened to me, every single step toward getting on our plane went sideways for me and my sister. We were so being schedule and depressed--
that when the security guard asked if I wished to be checked privately (I normally would)--I was like, get ya life bih! 😣 😂😂😂
When I went out of the country I had to go through the body scanner. No one patted me down but I did forget I had sunglasses on my head and had to go through the scanner again. I was embarrassed but my TSA officer was so kind and held my sunglasses... then commented that "he could understand why I forgot to take off my (Gator Magnum) sunglasses because they are so light". I felt so much better about the need for a rescan and I thanked that TSA agent for their understanding. I will say this though... If I don't have to fly, I prefer driving because the only pat downs I can expect are from my husband ... wink wink ;)
I never ever want the tsa to search me like that. I am with Ms. Ross that would make feel uncomfortable and violated. I am going to add I would feel gross. Thats alot.

@@kennedi_antonae332 I understand why it was done. I said I never want this to happen to me. So far it hasn't happen to me and I hope I never get searched like that. I keep it simple when I go through airport security.
What it comes down to is we as a society are slowing letting our rights to our bodily autonomy be eroded for a false sense of security. TSA has not prevented a terrorist attack.
As a 65 year old woman, I get know Ms. Ross felt. I too would feel very uncomfortable with such pat down, even if the person is doing it correctly.
