BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. All footage can be viewed on the British Pathé website. www.britishpathe.com/
The Queen Mother looks to have been a very loving Granny. She bent down to hug the children close and was talking with them. She picked Princess Anne up to make sure she didn't fall in the carriage. Apparently very warm and demonstrative with them.
Queen Mother shows more loving gestures to the children than the parents. Glad they have her as grandmother.
You need to read up on her. She played favorites. Even with her great grandchildren. Wills was her favorite because he was the heir so she doted on him constantly whilst somewhat ignoring Harry.

@@maxineshaw3259 I HAVE learned it. Many years ago in fact. Which is why I only quote from credible biographies, documentaries and historians. I have never been one to spread unsubstantiated rumors.
@@retroguy9494 she was also MILLIONS of pounds in debt when she died, which her daughter Elizabeth had to cover. She also loved the liquor.
@@HookedOnSonics518 Well, yes, I know she liked her nip every day. Let's face it. So did her daughter Lizzie. Dubonnet and gin, champagne every night before bed, etc.
But how could a dowager queen get millions of pounds in debt? The royal family is supposedly worth upwards of 400 million pounds!
Beautiful moment when Prince Charles and Princess Anne hugged the Queen Mother.

Queen mother smiles so adorably! Prince Charles is already very elegant, shy and obedient but happy, dispite his eyes a bit sad, to embrace his Grandmother warmly!
Touching! 😘🇫🇷
So unbelievable this comment being 2 mo old and he is now king Charles. Wild.
The Queen Mother lived so long Pathe did not cover her death.
Perhaps that had something to do with the fact that Pathe stopped their newsreels and coverage in 1970 and the Queen Mummy didn't die until 2002.
@@retroguy9494That was his point.

I think it was more to do with The Queen Mother's connection to Witchcraft on her mother's side. Something of this area The Nazis took an interest in. Long time since I've read the information, can't offer the details.
Don't be silly.
All her children where so freaking cute .. look at little anne with her blond curls.. charles with his cute eyess
I think you mean her grandchildren.
How nice of the queen mother to go and see her sick friend as soon as she arrives at London
The Queen Mother really did enjoy being the center of attention!
You can say THAT again! So much has come out about her in the 20 years since her death. She was really quite a nasty woman when she was younger and fiercely protective of Bertie. She was also pissed that Bertie died so young. She was not as yet ready to give up being Queen and as you said, the center of attention.
@@retroguy9494 And didn't she turn down Bertie a couple of times before? I also read that she really had eyes for David but he wasn't interested in her.
@@ninakramer276 Well, yes, that's true. She DID play hard to get with Bertie and turn him down a couple of times. However once they DID marry they were very devoted to one another.
But there is no historical evidence that I know of that said she was ever interested in David. In fact, she grew to hate him for putting Bertie in the position to have to serve as King which he was never trained to do.
@janetclaireSays what utter rubbish, it was normal behaviour for senior royals and she was loved by our nation and popular until her death
@@retroguy9494 you've been reading utter rubbish, she was not nasty and was not fiercely protective of Bertie, she was supportive of him
and that was her job
and she did not give up being Queen

Princess Anne was adorable!
Charles loves his grand mother
And she loved HIM because he was heir. She did the same thing with William but really didn't bother with Harry.
This lady refused to leve during the bombing raids stating the kids will never leve without her and she would never leve without the king and king will never leve and also stated she was glad she was bombed so she could see those bombed in the eyes,no wounder Hitler called her the most dangerus woman and she did not even need a real wepon to be dangerus
I just love seeing these videos. I was only four years old. Sandra B.
The sick friend was Lady Lavinia Annaly, wife of the 4th Baron Annaly who was in hospital. Lady Lavinia died some months later in May 1955, age 55. The Queen mum was Lady Annalys bridesmaid back in 1919 (when she still was Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) and Lady Annaly was her Extra Lady in waiting, when she was the Duchess of York.
A cheeky Princess Anne who looks officials in the face and a shy and awkward Prince Charles who has to be helped to climb up onto the carriage while his sister doesn't need any, thank you very much 😛 .
She's beautiful 😘
The queen mother was one of a kind
Thank you to the narrator for telling us what colour everyone was wearing.
God what I would give to have grown up through those decades .

So nice to see Queen Mother gave lil anne n charles that warm tight hug. Queen is terribly cold with her children...so sad. No wonder charles looked for a mother figure in camilla
Camilla a MOTHER figure? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
They adored their mother. I’ve seen some of their private home videos of her with them as kids and she was very loving towards them. There was nothing terribly cold about her. I’m sure she would say, let people think what they may.
Not everyone is comfortable with PDA. It's much easier to show PDA when you don't have everyone looking at you.

British Pathe just loved spending money and time with these absurdly empty stories. Queen Mother tours US: that's a story. QM returns from the US: that's not.
Charles was very careful and looked at his father’s face, Philip way was not so suitable for Charles
Read that she was cold n wore expensive jewels even during the war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Queen had a trying time of it to ask her mother to stop spending excessively on many dresses.
But she DID eat fish cakes like Queen Mary (who hated them) and took baths in 2 inches of water! LOL

@@retroguy9494 I'm saying the English should consider importing the guillotine from France for the current royal family.
The queen got no feeling or love for her kids because she didnt raise them but nannies did. Not like diana she always want the kids with her
True. Though it was the times, of course. Diana also refused the advice of Queen Mum to not treat Harry as equal to William. Maybe if she had listened, Harry wouldn't have grown up with notions of being equal to the Heir.
In all fairness, I think the Queen's personality had a LOT to do with it. She saw the bearing of children as a 'duty' rather than a blessing from God. Bertie and the Queen Mummy also had servants help with Lizzie and Maggie but they made it a point to spend a lot of time with them and make them feel loved. For some odd reason, she was a lot like her grandfather George V. He was a cold fish too and in reality, downright abusive (which thankfully the late Queen was not...or at least nothing has come out about it).
I would never bow for the queen idk why she let people do that royals dont do that anymore
The queen loves her children. Different times, different upbringing.
@@ianumpil873 no have you watched the crown she never shows emtions etc when diana s dr said she is depressed and got boulima the queen didnt accept it
@@jihane1225 The Queen wasn't a great mum, but the Crown is probably the most inaccurate place to be getting information on the Royal Family
‘The Crown’ is complete fiction, and bad fiction at that.
If you wouldn't bow for the queen you have no respect and idea of history, people have been bowing to the monarch of England since the 11th century. It's called tradition and is customary. Are you British? If so shame on you, and if not you might want to not disrespect a woman who has done more in a week then you will do in a lifetime.
