Still a great video Dale Keepm Coming,, this is the type of things the new trappers need to see,, even like bundling them in half dozens with wire ,, I use bucket handles,, bt your helping the new and upcoming trappers💪
Blake you can call or text me @ 319-217-0655 or shoot me a message on messenger. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures we appreciate you
Looks like Timber is crashed . Hope you get the rain , we had a inch today , and quite a bit of snow in the mountains. Guess the season of suck is offically over. Thanks buddy.
Might be a good thought to compare the price and durability of the paint vs. the dips/sealers (mostly coal tar - Andy Stoes', Kaatz's, or floor waxes). Would be curious on your experience. ...the mike
I hate speed dip Mike plain and simple. I have used it in the past and absolutely refuse to again. If the paint is a little more expensive then so be it. Id rather have a dry odor free trap vs a sticky smelly one. That's my $0.02
I have used it (petroleum dips) since it first came out (20+ years) and was frustrated to begin with (the first 5 years). Just like you I had odor and tackiness problems. However I worked and experimented and finally got a mixture and process I really like. Use it only on water traps and BG's and even if the BG's are above water, have no issue BUT because this dip is of a coal tar base, I leave these dipped traps outside for several months prior to use after dipping unlike most paints, which can be ready to go in a week for me. Petro dips need exposed to rainfall and/or under a lean-to for longer periods. No issue on Speed Dip types when done well, well, well enough ahead of time and the right mix is the key for me. Realize lots of folks can't leave their tools outside for extended periods. Rustoleum paint or Dakotaline Snare & Trap Dip (lots or stirring) works for my land traps. Will send you a picture of my trap hanger for drying..................... the mike@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531
@michaellance3544 that's great if you have it figured out. Everyone has their own way of doing things. I prefer to use the paint. I appreciate you watching Mike. Thank you
Doing just that for 10 years now, the thing different is I dip my canine traps in zep floor polish, because of the calcium is use to freeze proof the bed of the trap
Great video Dale! Is there a reason you add mineral spirits other than to save paint? Also would love to see a video about scent control at trap sets! Thanks for all you do brother
@derrickwatson9146 you don't want the paint too thick Derrick otherwise you could have some trouble keeping them set. And yeah I can do that video in a few days for you. I have one more convention this Sunday and then I'll be done with them for the year
Do you use the 5 gallon bucket for dipping your 330’s or do you use a different container? Also does one need to clean out the dog notch on conibears when using paint? Appreciate all the info! I have about 15 dozen beaver traps that need treating so figured I’d better ask and save me some hassle lol.
I use a shallow tub for conibears Peter. Yes it wouldn't hurt to scrape the dog notches. Or you could go through and put masking tape over the dog also
Hey Dale. You said you don't use wax dirt. What do you use to weatherproof your sets? Really been enjoying your videos and am learning a lot as a newer trapper. Thanks for all you do.
Good quick video Dale. This is the first year I'm painting my k9 traps. I'm hoping I don't have any problems. What kind of paint do you use ? I used the Dakota line paint water based. Hay buddy for your help answering questions. Good luck this seasons.👊🏻👍🏻
What size bucket do you use/how do you do your 330's I hate spray painting because I'm anal about covering every inch and go through 2 cans of paint per 6, 330's and its a pain in the Azz
What brand of paint are you using for dipping. I've been spray painting with krylon but your way looks easier. And do you have to mix with mineral spirits.
Hmm mine are squeeky clean when I do it. Otherwise get a big pot with water, heat to slow boil, turn off the heat, then flood pot to remove all oil off the top of water.
Okay, so the jist of it is, everything I know for a fact, just ain't so. Well, that ain't new and that ain't news, at this point. I'm getting used to it.
Very informative video! Thank you Dale!
Thank you for watching Jason.
Thanks Dale for that good info ,never thought of that.
Thank you for watching Lynn. I appreciate you
Excellent video lile Always Excellent explanation of thr why's. Thanks again Dale.
Thank you Kevin. I appreciate you watching too pal.
I'm still trying to acquire a couple bottles of your Fox 2. I can't find your website or a way to order on-line. Thanks, Dale
Bayfilly you can find it at Cumberland's Northwest Trapper Supply. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures
In your opinion , do you think Implement paint does any better a job for the price?
Wade
I've used it in years past Wade. I don't believe it's any better than say rustolium or body primer
Great video. How did the bridger # 11 work out
I love them Jon. They're a fantastic little trap

Do you paint cable extensions ?
Not usually Blake.
How can I find out more about your trapper school in May ?
Blake you can call or text me @ 319-217-0655 or shoot me a message on messenger. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures we appreciate you
Maybe I have missed it in your videos (just found your channel) but what do you use instead of wax dirt? Peat moss?
I use coal shale Brent. I live in strip mine country. So it's easy for me to get all I want
Makes sense. Thanks!
@brentrowan2794 you're welcome
P.S. did I miss your thoughts on dipping snares? ....the mike
You can dip them just fine as long as the paint is thinner enough Mike. You sure don't want it to heavy on them.
Hey Dale. Dose this paint keep for the next year?
Sure it will Alec. Just seal it up and keep it from freezing.
Looks like Timber is crashed . Hope you get the rain , we had a inch today , and quite a bit of snow in the mountains. Guess the season of suck is offically over. Thanks buddy.
It was hot here again today Mike. Thank you. And thank you for watching too
Thats a great job Dale thank you for sharing! Good luck this season my friend!
Thank you Mark and good luck to you as well

Absolutely Donald. If you're using any kind of corrosive antifreeze then you need to coat them with something

I use coal shale CDF-ES. Go to a coal bank if you have any in country. I live in strip mine country so it easy for me. Thank you for watching
Amazing work. Matthew Holland
Thank you Matthew. Appreciate you watching too
What type of paint sir?
Any exterior enamel paint will work Patrick
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 thank you sir, I’m very tired of dying and waxing, this is greatly appreciated
@patrickhier7252 I'm glad I could help you some Patrick.

You can use any paint you want Chip. I've used rustolium, body primer, tractor paint, enamel, you can even use latex if you want.
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 It sure is a lot faster.
Yes it is Chip

Anthony I use a shallow tub you can't get a 330 in a bucket.

Rustolium paint Travis. Yes you need to thin it. Thank you for watching
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531I like this idea. What is your mix of pains to spirits
@tnkmckenna 50/50 mix. 1 gallon paint to 1 gallon thinner
May I ask what do you trap for using the double long spring traps?
So Al those are all #11s in this video. I use them on coon and otter. But I use #3s on coyotes and cats too.
Excellent!!! Heard you just fine!
How do you get oil off of new traps?
Dishwasher
@@tommyt7827 I tried that but it didn’t take it all off. Just most of it but not all.
Hmm mine are squeeky clean when I do it. Otherwise get a big pot with water, heat to slow boil, turn off the heat, then flood pot to remove all oil off the top of water.
Just power wash them with hot water Just me
@tommyt7827 not sure how much squeakyer and cleaner you'd want them to be Tommy T?
Traps look good Dale, won't be long before we stick them in the ground.
Thank you Ron. It's getting closer
You sure make it a simple procedure. 👍🏻😎🇺🇸
No sense making work out of it Sonny. Thank you for watching
