In the early 1990's I had suffered a severe nervous breakdown and because my parents knew of my love for classical music, they bought me the complete boxed set of the Tchaikovsky symphonies trusting listening would help me to recover. I think I owe it my parents and Mariss Jansons that indeed I did recover. I still treasure my boxed set and return to it again and again. The Manfred is supremely moving and beautiful and the end of the first movement was chosen by the BBC as the closing music to the radio serialization of War and Peace which is when I first heard and fell in love with it.
Love it!
I don't understand why this symphony is so rarely played?
It is very dramatic and full of emotion. Wonderful performance! Jansons was a masterful conductor, especially in Russian music.
I've heard it say that it needs a very big orchestra to perform this work which is why it is rarely performed. The Marriss Jansons recordings is considered to be one of if not the best.
Leonard Bernstein hated the symphony. He refused to conduct it. He said it was a mess.
Love this symphony..
to me it has some of his best stuff..
i think the big orchestra thing is a "lie.. " i think
how many pieces are performed all the time with big orchestras?
loads
including Tchaikovsky pops..
don't worry about Bernstein lol
enjoy the superb music 🙂 x
jansons does Tchaikovsky very well..
@@georgemurray8250 Plus 2 more things- Very technically demanding plus the need of the organ for the very end of the finale.
Because most conductors and orchestras have no clue how to interpret it
Das genialste Werk Tschaikowsky´s - im 4.Satz ist alles Leben zusammengefaßt 😌 😍
Marris jansons does Tchaikovsky so well
and Manfred symphony is just superb!
thankyou for sharing this 🙂
RIP great maestro
Happy Birthday Maestro Jansons. You are greatly missed.
Я тоже грущу по Марису Янсонсу.Когда он умер,вся музыкальная Европа,а в России даже и не заметили.
Петербург.
Вся музыкальная Европа скорбела,а в России и не вспомнили.
Петербург.
My absolute all-time favourite recordings of Tchaikovsky's symphonies! I cannot wait for the performance of the 5th symphony!
A truly Great performance of the Manfred Symphony, Op. 58. Tchaikovsky composed this Symphony shortly before his famous Fifth, Op. 64 in which Jansons and the Oslo Philharmonic give an equally exciting account. ~ Thank You and RUclips for uploading these beauties! 🏵️
Best version!❤
so many things i want to say about this music
i think it's so good
but i wouldn't stop..
so i won't.. 🙂
1. Andante lugubre 00:01
2. Vivace con spirito 15:32
3. Andante con moto 25:52
4. Allegro con fuoco 37:09
Brilliant!
i get so tired of people saying: 'tchaikovsky wrote six symphonies.' NO he wrote 7. and nota bene: the last movement, especially the very end, which is so qiet. it is not only the sixth which ends quietly.
yes
At 15:04 we see and hear the timpanist producing a nice smooth timpani roll using the French Grip technique
🌹
Great performance marred by subpar sound.
I guess it’s an underrated symphony…
👍
God... 😭😱😢
Чайковский рулит ❤🎉
В живую я их хочу послушать, великолепно 🎉
