Just saw this guy in Fort Wayne this weekend. Bar none, the best pilot/show there. Absolutely breathtaking. 70 year old tech and a phenomenal pilot. The other planes had more capability, but the other pilots came no where near his talent. Love to see what he could do in a Raptor! Thanks for the show Lt. Col.
Unbelievable flying skills... I am speechless. The musical instrument alone is the same silent as a dustbin until an artist comes and starts playing on it. Wonderful flight!
John was the one who started the helicopter-to-biplane transfer a number of years ago. I don't know if he still performs the stunt since the fatal accident. His Stearman routine is really impressive -- heavy airplane, small engine, heavy controls==remarkable performance! (from his old friend Captain Jim)
Ronin, Thanks for the extended vid! I really screwed up this year - I have been to the Abbotsford airshow 3 times over the years but didn't go this year - CRAP! LOL! I will definately have to go next year, looked like great weather and great pilots at your show. That is the best Stearman pilot I've seen. Thanks for sharing. Jeff
One thing I have noticed that most restored PT 17- N2S aircraft have the leading edge spoilers deleted. The Navy spoiled the lower center section of their N2S's and the Army spoiled both upper and lower wing center sections. The reason for the Navy's lower wing spoiler is to simulate a low wing monoplane as the F4Fs were coming one line as they were gearing up for war 2.
thanks for watching, I'll be getting more footage from that airshow again this year. Subscribe for some of the best model and full scale footage on youtube
@warderseeker Ohhhh, when the russians used to come here for Airshows back in the 90s, it was incredible. Especially when they were putting their hardware up against ours! I once saw 2 SU 27s perform together at both low and high speeds - WOW!
Wow, what an extremly skilled pilot. yeah, it takes a good pilot to be able to fly and Extra or a Suhkoi, but it takes a real pilot to pilot one of these babies like this
IT"s an AIRSHOW! lol and to quote Def Leppard, "Better to burn out, than fade away!" This guy has been doing this act for years to entertain and educate. If people like him didn't do exciting and inspiring things, you would live in a very boring world.
@thepilotboy you bet, announcer was saying at times, he has a hard tim pulling up on the thing, has to use both hands to get it to pull out of the dives LOL
This is an excellent video. Would you mind if I copied a few seconds of a clip to use in a science video that my son is making about the theory of lift? I would be most grateful. Many thanks. Eddie
thanks, one of my favorite abbotsford air show videos. Lots more on the main channel. Were you going to use the sideslip at 3:10? lol Sure go ahead, if possible, somewhere could have a link to the channel
All seems a little too low for me. However, a perfect example of the saying; "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots"
I don't know if it's such a perfect example. This guy is no spring chicken, and is certainly bold, AND TALENTED! Unless you know something I don't.. then never mind, and RIP!
@PC9JEFF Thanks a lot man. I hadn't gone in a long time, then started going again couple years ago. Not next year, but the one after, is 50 years of it I think.. Supposed to have some incredible stuff there, maybe Russians !!
I paid for a ride in a biplane. When we went inverted, the motor stopped! Of course, the pilot didn't tell you that was going to happen, as he wanted to watch the expression on your face in the mirror! I'm assuming the motor stopped because of fuel starvation. Of course, when we went upright the the motor fired up and off we went. Why would fire come out of the exhaust in this case? He's obviously still getting fuel, and the motor still seems to be running!
Excellent video of a pilot taking a stock Stearman to the edge of the flight envelope.
To the edge of the flight envelope and beyond

@jauchiu thanks for watching
... great pilot!
announcer says at one point, they always have to wash the grass stains off the ends of the wings, because he drags them so much thanks for watching
@tyrbolo Very cool. B-29's are awesome
most smoke systems dont burn the oil IN the engine, they pump it into the muffler and the heat of the pipes burns the aviation smoke oil
@PC9JEFF Thanks a lot man. I hadn't gone in a long time, then started going again couple years ago. Not next year, but the one after, is 50 years of it I think.. Supposed to have some incredible stuff there, maybe Russians !!
That was great !
This guy rules

Running but missing bad..Figure some of the fuel is unburnt and when it hits the hot manifolds it sparks and lights like a car backfiring
Me and my dad flys a stearman
Very nice! :)
@1BLADESHY more airshow stuff coming up
Amazing!!!!!
@chiosex that was awsome
