This is hands down the best larp intro video I've seen, and I've seen A FEW. Really nice job introducing different styles and cultures of larp and trying to make your definitions fit a variety of them.
This is incredibly helpful advice, absolutely what I could've done with when I was getting into larp and struggling to find out where to find the hobby! Also love the convention games shout-out, larp via karaoke to ABBA songs is still a real standout experience for me.
That's the first time I've heard Player vs Evil rather than Player vs Environment, but I like it and will definitely be stealing it for later use. It nails its setting values to the mast with an appropriately sized hammer.
I've been wanting to get into larp pretty much forever, after a hilarious fail in my first year of university where I checked out the battle re-enactment society and swiftly became their rather dramatic First Blood and felt too embarrassed to go back! At the moment I'm not in good enough health/situation to plunge in, but I'm absolutely keen to start making costumes etc. and looking forward to your videos. Thank you so much for all the great work you're doing! 🧡
As an American LARPer it's interesting to hear about all these different style of games. I started with the Weekend style of games and have been dipping into more Nordic inspired games that have been slowly popping up here. I totally agree they are type two fun for sure, but gosh darn does it feel good to openly weep into someone's arms over X,Y OR Z reason. Thanks for the break down! Words of advice if you do try larping make sure you take care of your body( eat, drink water and BATH), for sure tap out of scenes if your getting overwhelmed, and make sure to check in with folks after intense emotional scenes. Your physical and mental health are more important then solving the next puzzle. Remember if you die in real life you die in the game :P have fun folks!
I've spent well over a decade in various online role play games but I definitely find that as I get older (and making friends gets harder tbh...) LARP starts sounding more and more appealing. Thanks for this rundown!
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Good to hear it! We've officially entered 'cleaning season'. The owner of the building uses the annual vacuuming of the A/C units to snoop around a judge. Ah well. It's one way to mark the seasons. I need to get my fishing license. And get back to sewing - feel the need for skirts. Did I tell you I finished my first ever fully leather lined belt, completely saddle stitched? All I really want to do is dream up more leathercraft projects to try... that and see if I can actually catch a fish this year...
@@stevezytveld6585 Cathy your belt sounds lovely. Saddle stitch is a pain but it looks terrific! I’m trying to organize my sewing room, or procrastinate on sewing haven’t decided yet. I’m so glad I don’t have to put up with nosy landlords but I suppose if they are otherwise ok it wouldn’t be too bad. Also lost my mind and got a chihuahua. He’s 4 and is presently sulking cause his boy didn’t come home from school, it’s mom’s weekend. He hasn’t realized that his next favourite person has gone to see his grandparents and fish. I haven’t been fishing in years I should make some time and do that this year!
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Totally, get yourself onto the water this summer. Fishing around downtown is the best excuse to hang out with the birds. Your chihuahua sounds like he's settling in really well. Well done. We get out guinea pigs from the Humane Society too. Give 'em a scrooch for me. Saddle stitch takes flippin' forever. But, oh mah Gawd, the results. Can't afford to buy it first-hand. But I can afford to make it. Plus, tool rolls are fun. I vote for the 'organizing' part of the equation for your sewing room. Have to be able to find things to make things, right? Settled on your first project to start the season? Our landlord is Jeckle and Hyde. One time he's nice. Next time, he's yelly pants. Great video! My first larp game will be in a couple of months and I'm so excited!!! I've been watching as ~a lot~ of larp related youtube videos. (In the US, and while it's a local, weekend game it sounds similar to a fest larp - outdoors, camping, semi large with website saying 200-400 people, and runs from Friday at sundown to Sunday at sunrise.)
I'm not sure if LARP exists in Eastern Ontario (Canada), outside of conventions. I'm assuming this has much to do with the existence of mosquitos and blackflies. Sounds like fun, tho. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
That was an absolute bomb of information, but am I totally drawn into doing LARP? I'm not a young one so I may take some convincing, but it does sound fun though. By the way your top is really lovely, love the contrast between the draping sleeves and the stiffer quilted bodice section.
"You can't just keep role playing with someone until they agree to date you." This should be shouted from the rooftops!

Me, a Norwegian starting LARP-ing with a Nordic LARP at 16: eeeeeeeeh this is a bit... much
Me, now in my 20-s after covid: pls let me LARP, any LARP
Ask dumb questions (I have that one covered...)! Thank you once AGAIN for the explanations and entertainment. I like the title cards, too!

RUclips needs a reboot
This showed up a day late for me
Not sure I’ll actually get into LARPing myself but cool to learn more about it.
So fascinating. I wish I lived in the uk
Sounds fun! Not that I’m going to see if there are any in the area. I’m far too distract able without adding something new!
Yup. Same reasoning for me.
Hope you're doing good, Woman.

I wonder if vr/ar technology could be used to update Larping for more extreme interactions
I believe it already is in some games!
