Did you ever make a video of your DIY roof top tent? - It looks spectacular! If you did make a video about it, please share a link and opinion about it.
Hi I didn’t make a video unfortunately. The project was very long and full of problems. In the end I’ve removed the tent as it was not good enough. Looked good but had too many problems with it 😊
19:27 The foam material in your toolbox, where do you buy it? - I had it in a tool box n the late 1980’s but can’t find it today. Please tell me where you got it from!
I forgot the fire anchor and other kit to cook. Makeshift spike did the job :) Thanks man took a while to get things organised and I’m not finished with them just then 😅
you curving setup is crazy... I guess you just bought a case, and the leather platform on the top as well as the lower platform on the bottom you installed and created yourself? Love your videos, I wish I could travel now and I wish didn't have war in our country(
Yes I bought a case on Amazon and customised it with shadow foam inserts to fit my tools. The top section for leather work I made. Thanks for watching the videos, I appreciate it. I hope you get to travel soon and in peace!
Hi mate. Thanks That’s a tricky question and honestly I wouldn’t take what I say here as gospel. For the UK where you’re never far from civilisation I think it’s fine. I’ve often wondered how realistic it is as an overland adventure vehicle in places like Australia where you have endless miles to travel. I find I can do about 100-150 miles before I need a good break to stretch my legs. It’s the cabin noise on the motorways that is the biggest downside for longer journeys imho. Gets tiresome. Personally I’ve never done more than 3 nights camping with the Jimny but I know of many people who go on longer trips. 10 days or more. I best mention I’m not a big fan of driving long distances in general… so perhaps I’m biased towards it being a weekend warrior kind of car. I got a loan of the new grenadier and drove it 6 hours home from London. I can tell you that was a pleasure in comparison but clearly a big disparity in price 😅 All in all I love the jimny and have no plans to sell it anytime soon.
could you please explain how you camp in Britain? you have to register in the journal to go to some reservation or some areas? And apart from you are there other people chilling and camping like you?
People do wild camp in the UK. It’s not as easy as it ought to be as all land is privately owned or has no permit to camp. I don’t wild camp as I’m taking my car and a lot of stuff. I book all my campsites on using different services that allow you to pay for an isolated private space. Not the cheapest way but it does guarantee that I can get some time alone to chill.
Mate great video Just wondering if you've ever thought about using COACH bolts instead of tent pegs ? You just need to get a cheap cordless impact drill and Bobs your uncle much quicker and stronger than tent pegs Also if you get on line and check out OZTENT swag with stretcher Cheers
Cheers! I don’t have a video but I did write a blog on the first version kitchen I made which uses similar ideas. geordiejimny.com/diy-fridge-slider-built-like-meccano-using-aluminium-extrusion/
Hi, it started to get water ingress due to mistakes in the tent material design and sewing. Also the aluminium roof panel was getting a lot of condensation on. Both issues are fixable but I don’t have the time or motivation to do anything about it :) I’m for now I’ll just sleep under the awning but I do plan on adding another roof tent in future I’m still a bit undecided which one to buy. Probably ikamper mini but that will mean a big change to the awning and I love that kit and the shelter it gives.
Hi mate. Might knock a video out soon, just so busy with work, Jan should be okay. I did pick up a tent and have been messing on with a new setup. Looking forward to getting out there 🍻
I'd say its a good thing taking the roof top off, I hate them. I'll take a swag on a stretcher any day and save $4k..........but hey, what ever gets people out camping i suppose. Thanks for the vid
Definitely mate, everyone has their preference. Pros and cons. I enjoy both for different reasons. If I had more payload space for a bulky swag that would easily beat that little stretcher I’m currently using under the awning. Love the idea of a swag. My current setup is a bit of a fanny on to be honest. The roof tent was a lot less hassle. Then on the flip side I’m loving the roof storage options now the tent is off. Honestly don’t know what my next set up will be, probably another roof tent but god only knows 😅
haha i never know what I'll end up with....part of the fun ...trying out all the new stuff. They are coming out with better stuff all the time. yeh the swag would be a pain in the jimny and probably take up 1/2 your roof rack. I got to say you guys with the jimnys are some of the best organized campers I see. Something to be said for having limited space. Ill keep a watch on your channel and see what you end up with🙂 happy camping
