POW! As a few others have pointed out, this was a positive stroke (lowering positive charge instead of negative). Not only do they tend to have a higher peak current, but they often have no branching at all near the ground and also the channel tends to be much straighter. This is due to the physical differences between positive and negative leaders themselves. What this does is that you don't have the warning crackling that you normally get from branched negative strokes, instead the pressure wave from the straight main channel slams into you in one go, resembling a sonic boom.
Perfect explanation, and yes that was exactly how it sounded....and felt! It was such a explosion feeling/sound when the thunder hit me, it was so cool to actually get one of these on film. As soon as I seen it strike down I knew it was going to be VERY loud as you said there was no branching whatsoever it was just a solid tube. I love filming lightning, there's no telling what you're going to capture.
That was a close *and* positive (smooth channel) strike. No wonder it was so loud. A positive strike has around 1 billion volts of energy, whereas the more common negative strikes (the ones that look all twisty and gnarled) are only between 300-500 million volts. Great video!
It sounded like a damn bomb! I've only heard thunder like this a few times, I can still feel it in my chest lol. Thanks. Also @ 0:30 you can hear a 2nd little pop of thunder.

Positive Lightning Strike, the thunder is EXPLOSIVE!
How do I know? Well, I live in Oklahoma and have powerful Positive Lightning bolts every year.
Oh yes for sure!
If you slow the vid down to a ¼ speed you get a better look at the formation/dissipation of the ⚡!
