The updated video definitely does have better sound quality and looks better, nice job! Happy to see the drive worked reliably for the re-recording and no bad sectors is amazing. A truly unique drive if only more were around like this, maybe they will show up from the shadows some day...

i love that spin-up sound, the way it takes a bit to stabilize

Ah, sounds much better than the older recording, the spindle in this one is much quieter and not painful to listen to

I don’t remember if I have seen the original one or not, but anyways that’s quite an interesting one with a different construction compared to both older and newer models, yet it has a very similar seektest to the DSE.
For some reason I thought the D3711 was your first working NEC but I guess that’s wrong if the original video of that one was from a year ago.

Yes, this was my first ever perfectly working NEC, which was totally unexpected! I was the most interested in this model out of all of the ones I've acquired, due to the weird construction as you mentioned. It's quite interesting that it features exactly what you might expect to being in-between the two, although I'm really confused why NEC only used this design once (from what I can tell).
I really wonder how many other strange designs they had at the time that we may never see working...
