His name is Brandon Macfarlane, he was 11 here. He's from Perth Scotland, he was never in the U.S. before we brought him and his father to New York. No church in his background. This video, in the Greenwich Village Guitar store in NYC has had 21 Million views. Every TV show in America wanted this kid the next day Ellen, Apollo, Letterman,, etc., - but his dad somehow squashed all the offers with his demands.
"I been workin'..." : That soulful half-step slide from minor third up to major at the end of that phrase, and at several other moments in the song, is the heart and soul of the blues, and this kid seems to just live there when he's singin'. He's older now, with the deeper voice of a man, but with that same soul.
he has the voice of a 60 year old blues veteran who marinated his vocal cords in smoke and whiskey for all of his life. kinda reminded me of Jonny Lang's youth.
Last time I checked he's all grown up, and still singing and doing music... I haven't checked recently.. but he sounded great and played great as a young adult.
Britt, his name is Brendan MacFarlane. He is Scottish I think. He was about 12 or so when that music shop video started going around. Here is a video from I think 2015 or so of him singing for some ladies in a hotel lobby. So he must be early 20s in this. Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/JrRNXc48m_Y/видео.html
Yes..I was raised in a PENTECOSTAL CHURCH and I’ve heard some AMAZING SINGERS and MUSICIANS. I KNOW the WORD in my BONES sometimes it just comes out. 🙇🏻♀️🎼👍🏽🙏🏽
LMAO...this is GREAT that our youth can produce such vocals! Awesome reaction Britt! The young man deserves his dues! I seen this video about 8-10 yrs ago so I'm guessing he's around 20-25yrs old> LOVED IT!!
I've only very recently discovered your videos, but I've gotta say, I love the direction you are headed. Been a huge fan, of the music you have been showcasing lately, for a long while, and I really enjoy your reactions so far. You are on a wonderful musical journey with a fantastic attitude. 👍
You can tell by the way he's holding his hands he's had some professional instruction. I remember that from the school choir. Can you imagine being the music teacher doing the auditions and he comes in belts that out? hahahahahaha
Just a quick "thank you" for (1) your short yet smart intros. So grateful that you direct everyone to the primary content of your videos right away - in contrast to most other reactors who take sooooo long to recite their drawn-out and tiresome "Like, comment, and subscribe" spiels. Thank you also for (2) your kind and warm outro - "Please go have a day you deserve, peace" - sending us off to go have a happy day. More blessings to you and your channel.
That young man's talent is so GOD given he staid leaning on the counter the whole time, this was nothing to him, truly hope someday we get to hear his everything
his name is Brendan MacFarlane. according to different articles, he was either 11 or 13 when he was in the music store and sang this song. that was in 2009 so somewhere between 13 and 14 years ago. that would make him somewhere between 24 and 27 years old now, according to the dates and ages listed. he still sings but nothing as good as this. look up his song called " MONEY WONT ". this is such a good song and he still had his young boy voice back then. there are at least 2 different videos for this song at different ages. the first one is in cepia tone so it looks old. he is riding on the back of a horse pulled wagon. the 2nd one is full color and he is a few years older. he sounds so good in both videos. I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS BRITT !!!!! great name for your channel !!!
This reminds me of Hank Williams. Listen to how long he holds a note. Hank learned his music from a black gentleman named Rufus "Tee-Tot" Payne, a street performer.
There was a different white kid named Quinn Sullivan who is so good on guitar that Buddy Guy took him on as a protege. Took him on tour. He's a young adult now, still playing the blues. Check him out.
Quinn Sullivan played with Buddy Guy and Buddy introduced him to BB King. BB was very supportive of Quinn also. Awesome blues guitarist already at grade school age.
It's funny to me that most reactors when they hear someone actually sing (or "sang" as some wills say), church comes to mind first. It's telling of the times. You don't see many Luther Vadross or Teddy Pendergrass types these days, unless your listening to gospel. We have a few gems out there, but it's nothing like we used to have.
To sing the blues, you have to have lived the blues. He's imitating a style, not reflecting his life through the music. He's good at it, but check back after he's been fired a few times, had some girl squirt on his heart a few times, been busted, or watched his best friend die. Then, he can sing the blues.
@BrittReacts - his name is Brendan MacFarlane; don't know, but I'd guess he was about 10 years old at the time. Do a search under that name on RUclips - he's still singing. HTH PS - he blew ME away, too, and I've been listening to top notch blues musicians for the last 60 years!
Hey Britt, great reaction this kid was amazing! I’ve followed him a bit, he’s still good, I don’t think he’s developed like Angelina or anything, but he was still good as an older teen! You may have seen by his before, but I think you’d really enjoy it!!! I’d like to see it kinda resurface , pretty awesome! The power and dynamics in their voices even with age differences!! Thanks have a great week! ruclips.net/video/574siDiIKGE/видео.html
If you wouldn't mind playing some old rock and roll, would you please react to Deep Purple Child In Time. I would appreciate it and I'm sure you will love it as much as I do.
If you liked this, check out the video " money can't buy." whith Brandon. Meaningful lyrics. A bit rurial but so true. Greetings from Gothenburg, Sweden.

I've seen the video before, and it's just unbelievable how that singing, that release, that power comes from a soul this young.

Lordy that boy had so much soul, I threw my shoe at my tv just to give him some of mine lol

This kid was born with soul.
Wow, digging deep into the RUclips archives for this one. That boy sang like Stevie Ray Vaughn played, so much soul.

As a guitarist all my life, had i been there and witnessed this,i would have cried.
That kid must be a reincarnation of Stevie Ray Vaughan! Heart & Soul & Blues down to the bone!

When he started singing, and I saw your face, I thought of the line from that old MasterCard commercial--"Priceless."
This kid is known. He will have options. Great post.
His name is Brendan MacFarlane. Great voice.
They answer to your color purple question is " shoog" ( like sugar). " shoog like a bee, me just like hunny" . love that movie.
He's holding his hands like the Von Trapp singers in the movie the Sound of Music.
The word is PURE🙌🏽
That young man's talent is so GOD given he staid leaning on the counter the whole time, this was nothing to him, truly hope someday we get to hear his everything
If you like blues, jazz great vocals and scattin’….check out Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter’s “Tobacco Road” LIVE from 1973! Amazing performance!

Shug Avery, like SUGAR Avery, Ms. Celie's Blues
I wonder if he ever tried out for American Idol or one of those types of shows. The one where they face away from the singer will be even better.

the most impressive thing is the guy in the back unconcerned eating his noodles
