Climb down and Keep your rope

- This is a a possible solution to a puzzle in the Ashley Book of Knots. The idea is that you can climb down a rope and take it with you to the next obstacle. I would not try this in any situation where you could get hurt. Stay safe.
Love your videos, thanks for continuing to share your knowledge!
Perfect timing, I've been looking for this exact knot. Please let us know what tool you need for measuring pull weight for strength tests I'm very interested
I was actually taught, as a cadet, to solve this particular issue, using a Sheep shank, tied up close to the anchoring point. Once load is added, to the dropped rope, one can then cut through the one piece, of the three rope sections within the knot, that isn't under any load.
Frankly, it always looked very doggy to me, so I've never actually tried it above 4ft 😬. To release, remove all tension and shake.
I was thinking the same thing!
I see you used a lot of anglers loops for this - a great knot, though I have found it can get jammed up quite easily. What are your thoughts on the double dragon?
Don't forget to throw in some battletoads
My double anglers loop looked a mess but it worked. How did you make it look so pretty? I guess that's why you are the first class amateur! The slippery hitch is definitely one for the professional and probably works better in hemp and natural fiber ropes. As he said, There is no such thing as a half tied knot. It's either tied correctly or it is nothing (and can kill you).
I have a solution on how to get down and keep your rope. It works every time but it will only work once. I suggest you do not take my advice.
I saw Bear Grylls tie a Kamakaze Sheepshank once, seemed just as sketchy as the slippery hitch.
Great work, unbelievable that people trust their life to them.
yep, just a sneeze at the wrong time could be all it takes.
For some reason all this reminded me of Bill Booth's '3 Ring Release' thats been a main stay of the sport skydiving community for decades. You'd be hard pressed to find a sport rig not so equipped.
If you double up the rope you can just climb down and then pull it down to you. Requires double the length of rope but would never trust life and limb to these knots
If your last words are not hold my beer and watch this, you are not living.
That’s called a Perfection knot. Used for fly fishing
Seems like the counterweight might be a strong enough disengaging force to let you tie some smaller rope on the two locking fingers that will make the lock more resistant to pulling through under tension, while still falling apart effectively when tension is released
👍🏻🇨🇦
Your figure 8 loop is not quite "in-line" with your rope. Your line and your loop should come out of the knot touching each other. I think if you send your loop the other way around your standing end, your loop will come out the right way. Great videos btw
No.
now make a tutorial for the counterweight i wanna make it now 😭
Cat burglar has joined the chat
Arriveddddddd! 😘
VENUS FLYTRAP RAPPEL 🥰
First!
I love this channel. I’ve always been fascinated with knots and have several books on the subject including the Bible ABOK.
It’s such a pity that young people neglect learning such basic life skills.
I'm in my early twenties and have been learning knots my whole life. My friend's daughter is 11 and loves knots. I don't think age has anything to do with it.

I think that you might be misunderstanding me. Generally speaking, children don’t know what to learn that might be of value later in life apart from such evident things as learning to ride a bicycle to get about. Most, not all, children don’t know the value of learning knots which is why their parents need to teach them this important life skill. I wish my parents did.
Once again, you're tying the directional 8 wrong. The bight is supposed to come out the same hole as the standing or running ends.
Thanks for pointing that out. I appreciate your comment!
Cool knots. Really creative. However, isn't it easier to just use an Alpine Butterfly Knot and run one end through the loop, and just descend with both sides?
Don’t know if it’s possible but it would be cool to see a collaboration between you and HowNot2 sense they have the equipment to test the breaking strength of rope and knots.
1- 360p..... oof.......thats rough to watch...720 should be the minimum standard
2- i did notice the knots in the begging, make an ampersand , &, shape.... this might be a useful way to remember it.
3- if you add a 3rd "angler" knot..... would that increase its weight bearing ability, possibly by 50%?..... assuming it dosnt pass the weight bearing strength of the rope....
it's showing in 1080p for me? maybe because it was a fresh upload it was only available in 360p until RUclips was done compressing/rendering it? I'm not an expert but I have heard others have had issues like that.
@@Vagabond1975 i dunno, its 1080 now
When a video is being processed, RUclips displays a lower quality video until it's done thinking.
