  • @COBARHORSE1
    @COBARHORSE1 4 года назад +6

    I have to agree about the helmet and wrist guards. Those two things are mandatory. Head injuries are the most devastating, and a broken wrist is the most likely. Then beyond that, elbow pads and knee pads. High top shoes or boots that provide ankle support can prevent a twisted ankle.

  • @420man

    Concussions can happen at around 20mph,a skull fracture can also easily occur at this speed.Many PEVs can achieve 20mph so it is an immense risk not to wear a helmet.

    • @DB-hm7mu
      @DB-hm7mu 2 года назад +1

      a 20mph hit to the head without a helmet can EASILY be lethal... minimising to just concussions and skull fractures is being naive... is not just the speed at which your vehicle is going... you need to add the velocity in which you body pivots for example when you hit the flow with your knees ... it can easily reach extra 30mph... so at 20 mph your head can hit the ground at 50mph... add to that the force of impact that will be added if you hit a point object such as a curb or a the edge of a stone. Also if your head hits the floor on the side or the back the internal damage is much much worse.... you can have deadly impacts at 10mph if all the factors get compounded against you. Please quit the illusion that you're safe

      My dad had a fall recently at like 8 mph off a scooter. He was wearing a bicycle helmet...still got a mild concussion and the foam of the helmet clearly broke in multiple places! I don't want to know what would have happened if he wasn't wearing. Even a fall from 0 mph can be lethal!

    I have a pair of Toughbuilt Heavy Duty Gelfit knee pads that I wore on my most recent ride, but mostly because my left knee was starting to hurt. I don't think my stance is quite right, and it was torqueing my knee joint. The pads have built-in knee support, and the moment I put them on the aching stopped and I was able to ride the rest of the day in comfort.
    I'm still pretty young, so I want to make sure I don't destroy my body prematurely.

    Good vid. Some very good points here, especially the one about loving/liking the equipment you wear. If its a pita to put on or is uncomfortable then your not going to wear it...One thing I have grown to love is my Lazy Rolling Hoodie, at least for cooler weather. its easy to put on and instant elbo,shoulder and back protection. Aside from that i always wear my demon podium full faced helmet, Leatt knee/shin guards & wrist protection. It only took one nasty spill and I learned my lesson quick. I was lucky and walked away with only road rash..Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Taz'.

Ya I think it would be like dropping a egg on a hardwood floor lmao so just speed the $200 plus and protect your head

    Outstanding article brother! I build and ride DIY mountain and skateboards. I'm a big boy 225+ so need power just to get going... My boards range from a not so slow, slow 4wd topping out at 28 mph to Ludacris rocket board maxing out about 46 mph. I have 10's of 1000's of miles under my belt and the scars to prove it unfortunately. You are spot on about wrist guards!!! I had a foot of titanium in my hand for months from a fall at less than 10 mph. FULL face helmet is a necessity and I say that living in Florida so yeah heat sucks but 100% necessary if you like to eat solid food. Since you are facing front, guessing hip armor is not as much of an issue but for boarders it is. Again lessons learned the hard way... Knee\ elbow pads with shin guards are next. These will do you way more good than you think especially in minor falls. Prevent massive road rash type scars that are unpleasant at a minimum. I wish my body armor wasn't so hot because that is also more important than i like to admit especially when riding off-road forget about broken collar bone being a common injury for a second... almost impaled myself more times than i can count riding in unfamiliar areas or having to bail due to surprise obstacles. no way around it if you ride a PEV you will fall and you will get hurt. 1st ride or 100th doesn't matter, If you cannot accept the risk
    esponsibility eyes wide open, please don't ride! If you can, gear up, saddle up and let's ride cause yeah it is so worth it! :)

    Only x2 Problems with: SteelBird Air 2 Helmet is that the Regular size (which the helmet only comes in 2 sizes I think) , is it leaves base of your your chin exposed, it doesn't give that full chin protection...also, the forehead is hurts as it is too snug (maybe you can grind out some material in forehead area of the helmet?)...

    I strongly believe in wearing a helmet at all times and a pair of gloves (with or without a wrist protector) for basic safety. However, if your only commuting and plan to stay off the street then its not as necessary to wear knee and elbow pads, if you are going on the street, appropriate clothing and padding is highly recommended. A good investment for those commuting is to buy a pair of Lazyrolling pants (casual, jeans, or slim cargo pants) which can protect you from a nasty fall. Generally a sweater or long sleeve tends to be fine if you fall at lower speeds (under 22 mph).

    The way I've always seen it with safety gear is, if at full running speed you can't slam yourself down in to the road as hard as you physically can without getting hurt, you haven't got enough safety gear on.
    You should be able to slam your body into the road at sprinting speed over and over, an over again without getting hurt, that's how I decide on what safety gear to wear.
    P.S. you should always wear gloves, as humans have evolved to put our hands out to save our heads in a stack.
