TIP: instead of building up your neoprene with double sided tape, you can use spray adhesive like 3M Super 77 and similar. It's much more economical, good double-sided tape is expensive. But I love so much that you told me how to build it instead of telling me where to buy it. SUPER AWESEOME.

Hi Kuji, really like this video back when you release it and I guess this is the source of inspiration of the new wave of so-called "power pads". However, these ain't custom fit and many comments are raising regarding how they help acceleration and brake, but also how they are in way of our knees when the wheel bounces back when hitting road holes/imperfection. Do you have any views on these "p-pads" ?

  • @alexeypilipenko7111

Do You know that cyclists mount their feet on pedals using a special clip-in/step-in clipless pedals and cycling shoes with a cleat?
In cycling this is usually used for efficient power transfer. But it is also good for safety and more relaxed feet position, thanks to reduced risk of loosing the pedals e.g. in downhill racing.
Do You think something like that might eventually arrive in EUCs?
Similarly to reduce risk of loosing the wheel in wobbling and making jumps easier without padding the EUC body.

Jumps eat away at it, and it cannot survive even a low-speed tip over. Are your EUCs able to take small falls on the neoprene without immediate visible damage?

    • @KujiRolls
      @KujiRolls  5 лет назад +2

Three suggestions: 1. Remove any rubber on your pedals if you have any. 2. Replace the grip tape to "vicious" brand. Its much better. 3. Bend your knees, wiggle your heels in as close as you can to the frame so that when you straighten your legs, your ankle bumps press hard against the frame without having to squeeze your knees in. Then attempt to jump.

    • @KujiRolls

I would put pads the same way i did the 16X. The 18XL pads were an experiment (thats EVA)... ive gone through a lot of iterations of different paddings and that was just one of them. Using EVA will probably be less comfortable, firmer, and cheaper. Of all the different types of foams ive used neoprene is by far the best.

Kuji Rolls what is better Tesla or SuperX?

I'm a big guy, 290 pounds. I'm looking at the King Song 18XL as my first EUC. I'm wanting to use one for going distances, not just short trips around the block. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on which wheel I should go with?

I'd say the MSX because its the most powerful wheel out there right now. The 18XL can probably handle you too, but i think you'd probably get a little more buffer with the MSX. Also wear protection. Big people have big falls.

I'm a total noob as well, but I've done a lot of research over the past couple weeks. I think you're on the right track. At your size either the KS-18XL or the Gotway MSX would fit you perfectly. The new KS-16X is another option, but they're only available on pre-order. If you want to go REALLY big and really far, there's also the Gotway Monster, but I doubt a 22" wheel would be ideal to learn on. Personally, I selected the 18XL as my first wheel as I don't have the patience to wait for the 16X. The 18XL seems to be the most well rounded of all the wheels in it's class. The MSX is a bit faster and is a straight up beast off-road. But the 18XL has a more creature comforts and features. You can also get a protective cover for it from eWheels or Roll-NZ. According to Marty Bake's tests (ElectricUnicycles Channel), it has better range as well. Check out Kuji's comparison of the two as well as ElectricUnicycles and SpeedyFeetUK.

Here is a TIP to make it easier and cheaper + a WARNING (question?) at the end!
Buy a pair of neoprene kneepads for work pants. Check your local hardware store.
I chose a pair with 20% neoprene and 80% SBR for about 15€
    - Flat on both sides and rectangle shaped.
    - 1" THICK TO START WITH :-)
    - I got 2 kuji pads from one knee pad (so i can make 2 sets on one pair = 7.5€ a set).
I noticed that they really dont have to be that long on the tesla since you allways stand pretty centered (bump towards the rear) and i can only fit them on the battery cover that bumps out from the body. Or is there a reason i haven't discovered for the big length?
Also i am going to remove the arch on my next pads. Why? If you place the foot more or less forward on the pedal you will have more or less air gap between the bump on your foot and the pad due to the arch of the pad. If one side grabs earlier than the other, the wheel tilts sideways a bit in the air and landing tilted is not really nice on the knees (or helping balance) especially when clamping the wheel with your legs and feet.
HUGE thanks for this tip @Kuji rolls that got med started. I can finally jump over rough patches and kerbs without much effort.
    WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP?
With KUJI PADS that aint right any more :-P
I am 46 y.o. weighing 95kg and managed to jump at first attempt = anyone can do it :-) Though i do drive a 1KWAh Tesla so its not very heavy compared to the huge wheels.
WARNING (or "be aware of" or is it safe?)
One thing that bothers me is that the wheel spins up when in the air and I am at times very close to cutout limit around 50km/h and also AMP SPIKES (180 AMPS SPIKE was the biggest i saw) according to wheel log, since when you land wheel corrects any angle you got when jumping. My biggest worry is a cutout (and/or burnt mosfets) due to above. I often hear a mini burnout when landing and sometimes wheel jolts quickly to correct itself (amp spike).
I lowered pedal stiffness to medium from hard to prevent wheel from spinning up as fast and amp spikes seemed to go down to 130-150A after that but it is still VERY HIGH (I have amp warning at 100A but of course thats for continous power outage). Should i be worried? Did you check amp spikes and wheel speed when jumping? For a reference :-)
I will try to learn how to jump with wheel straight(ish), which is really hard since you both jump with the legs and then pull up the wheel by bending(pulling up) your legs in the air which allways gives me an angle on the wheel. Maybe i shouldnt bend (pull up) the legs? It gives a bit more air but could be why i see the amp spikes.
I need to work on ankle flexibility for two reasons now, Squats and jumping LOL :-)

Brother I love your Videos. They are very helpful. But you seem like a menace in the streets to pedestrians. It only takes a split second for a human being that’s walking, especially a child to instantly switch directions 90° or 180°. If you hit them going 15 mph you’re going to hurt them very badly. Anyway I’m definitely going to try this idea with the pads around the ankles. It’s actually brilliant. Thanks

It's a genuine concern. I always ride at walking speeds or less in thickly crowded streets and I never closely cross pedestrians while riding faster. The nimbleness of an EUC though is lost on someone who has never tried it, or is just getting started, so it looks scarier than it actually is even when one rides safely.

Plus you have to remember where he is. Hes in China. People get around differently there. Look at his video when hes travelling. Pedestrians are used to all sorts of craziness on the sidewalks and streets there. You really cant look at it from the perspective of riding say in America or Canada. And even out here, depending on the city, you need to ride differently. So theres that.

Likewise with bikes, too. I always ride in bike lanes where available. Typically in cities there are bikers and scooters about, the same problem exists. Unicycles are sinilar, except at least in my experiences I have had much less near accidents due to being able to turn and stop faster and (worst case scenario) “throw it away”, jumping off and kicking it to the side.
