Muzak is an American brand of background music played in retail stores and other public establishments. The name has been in use since 1934, and has been owned by a division or subsidiary of another company ever since. In 1981, Westinghouse bought the company and ran it until selling it to the Fields Company of Chicago, publishers of the Chicago Sun-Times, on September 8, 1986. Formerly owned by Muzak Holdings, the brand was purchased in 2011 by Mood Media in a deal worth US$345 million. Muzak was based in various Seattle, Washington locations from 1986 to 1999, after which it moved its headquarters to South Carolina in 2000.
The word Muzak has been a registered trademark since December 21, 1954, of Muzak LLC, although it dominated the market for so many years that the term is often used (especially when used with lowercase spelling) as a generic term for all background music. The term Muzak is - at least in the United States - often used for most forms of background music, regardless of its source. It may also be referred to as "elevator music" or "lift music". Though Muzak Holdings was for many years the best-known supplier of background music, and is commonly associated with elevator music, the company itself did not supply music to elevators. Since 1997, Muzak has used original artists for its music, except on its Environmental channel.

The sad thing is so many jokes were made regarding this type of music, but compared to the garbage that's shoved in our ears in retail stores now, makes me long for yesteryear.
Yes!!!!! Agree 1000% The best music was the 60s 70s and early 80s. This music is so nice and relaxing and makes you feel good. I can't stand this world now!!!
Agreed, whenever I go to a grocery store or retail store I feel vexed inside. Only exception is Christmas, however I've noticed that they keep replacing the old classic Christmas songs with ill spirited pop versions sung by people who either sound as though they have bad attitudes, or are haughty or are trying to seduce you. It's ridiculous.
What about the jazzy version Christmas.

I can listen to this playlist for Hour's on end and to unwind after any day good or bad. Thank all Friend's.
I miss being a young kid from the 70's and a teen in the 80's...
Same for me a decade earlier ( young kid in the 60s and teen/ young adult in the 70s )
I know what you mean.
Same. Graduated ‘84. Great time yo be young!
I grew up in the 60s and 70s, funny how we took it for granted back then and now look back on how special those times really were, and long to go back to those times and experience the wonderfulness of it all.
Things back then might not have been easier, but they were damn sure simpler..
maybe for SOME people, mos def not for EVERYONE kiddo. 🫤

I miss these times! I was a grade schooler in the 70s. Life was easy and good. At least my upbringing was. I miss that. I weep for my grandkids growing up today. This world sux.
Makes me feel less alone, I always thought I was the only one who longed for those better times, glad there are many more like minded folks like myself out there too, who truly dislike the times of today's world😢
Love the old 'Special' CBS intro.... Man, that brings back memories....
Yes it does
Ikr?!!!? Like a cartoon about to come on at night.
Nothing like the 70s…for kids and adults alike. My dad used to work to this music and now I do too. It’s like I’m living a piece of that peaceful decade!
OH MY-JUST LIKE VISITING MY PARENTS-AND THEM MAKING EVERYTHING right with me-the comfort, security, love of that era is represented in its decor
This one. This particular collection. This is my favorite.
What completely cool music.
Not taking away from the glory of MUZAK in the 70s, but every time I hear that "CBS Special Presentation" bumper reminds me of Charlie Brown (Peanuts) openings as well as watching the televised version of "The Exorcist" in 1974, when I was eight. My parents were appalled I was watching it, but it never scared me back then, unlike it did my older sister. But in fairness to the upload, I LOVE MUZAK and always will!!
Give me anything old school. An ex of mine , nicknamed me Old School and I didn’t mind one bit. Appreciate this.
54:07 Wow!!! That's my wheelhouse _ Love the brass over the 88s and the strings such a sweet innocence that gets you swooning, then grabs you and sits you down to reminisce with all the feels
The sudden legato bridge is a familiar cliche.
Just like that old saying goes, Sometimes you don't know a good thing until you lose it.
53:53 The Olde Fashioned Ye Olde Pizza Hut ! There was something so cheesy BUT comforting about that place back then. Those red tumblers . LOL . I wish there would be a RETRO theme park with old restaurants like this .
P.S. That pizza on the table looks like it was at the bottom of a clothes hamper for a month .
This is very comforting in these crazy times. Thank you!🥰
U have reason..so very comforting.....😅😅😅😂
Saying these times are "crazy" is kinda like saying Joe Biden is "a little light headed." Times are off-the-charts insane.
Good point Smart Fart 😂👍
The sound of the Moog (at about 13:30) fits perfectly in my ear.
If this as close as I can get to a time machine, I'll take it! Just terrific. Thanks.😊✌️
Brilliant! Spot on....remembering how everyone's home was full of those burnt orange and Avacado green furnishings, sofas, coffee percolators, chairs, kitchen implements - a sea of orange and green... and dounbe knit clothing- Yikes!
great stereo sound. listening with headphones at work. good background music.
really captures the 1970s - even though I was a kid and enjoyed pop music, somewhere in the back of my head this music was stored. For some reason it's about all I can handle listening to anymore. thanks so much for making this video - and the others you've done!! P.S. love the photos also! It all looks so familiar - the outfits, the cars, the places and the furniture!
I'm listening to this great music in the UK 🇬🇧 it's soothing & relaxing to chill out to, happy memories. Thank you 😊
That CBS logo music brings back such memories.
It usually meant a charlie brown special was next.😍
I remember even as a kid I was fascinated with the CBS special intro. Great compilation and thanks for the memories.
It always came on before Charlie Brown.🙂
That's so true! You always new something "cool" was coming on next, like Charlie Brown, as mentioned above.
When The Networks were for the People...
56:42 I SO want to go shopping in that WOOLWORTHS ! I need a hair net , and I want to have a hot turkey platter (open face on white bread) at the coffee shop / restaurant !
I need some of their pocket notebooks, Xmas ornaments & pie & coffee!
That big red freshness lasts right through it… your fresh breath goes on and on, while you chew it!
Loved me some Big Red gum! Can't forget Juicy Fruit, Freshen Up, Bubble Yum, Bubblicious, Big League Chew, Gatorade gum and my favorite Fruit Stripe
That means you watched til the end. You get a Gold Star! 🌟
BeechNut Fruit Stripe Gum

NIIIIIICE!!! VERY NICE use of the CBS Special Presentation logo before this video. Now if only CBS would actually have a late night show that actually was this.
I couldn't agree more! We know that will never happen so that's why I started this series.
I loved the 70s and even most of the 80s early on
41:49 quintessential cabaret organ. Takes me right back.
Thanks for making another soundtrack of our lives! It will be put to good use!
Thanks for listening/watching!
This is great - thanks man!
At 38:50 that song was the theme to Focus On The Family on Moody Radio as a kid driving into school. Bam.
41:45 my favorite!
muzak from the 90s is the goat.
41:45. Summer Samba-So Nice. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
26:40 You've got to Frank it up!
It would be cool if someone Chimed in and said "Hey thats me in video time stamp ,blah blah" as a teen of the 70's and 80's there was nothing like it
That would be neat and I've thought the same thing! It hasn't happened yet but I'm always half expecting a comment like that. Out of all the pics from all the videos some of the folks have to still be out there somewhere. It would definitely bring it around full circle.
MUZAK ❤ EL SALVADOR 503 70s
INSTRUMENTAL.
Right now I want to go make a tuna casserole and put a movie in the VCR.
oh wow, my parents had the same carpet in the house
The song that starts at 45 minutes has definitely been used several times in Color Climax Films.
I love it! makes me so happy after a rough day at work
so nice
New sub here. Glad I found your channel. Takes me back to some really neat times,
Thank you for your channel 🤘
Thanks very much for the nice music
Brilliant, thanks so much ~ 🌟
All the women on the carousel are riding side saddle. I don't know why but I like that.
My favourite is the one that starts at 13:24, I don't know what it is called.
ALAN HAWKSHAW - "Mermaid"
I like that one too!!!! 🎵🎶🎵
They're still using it today, sometimes. Now, Muzak is branded mood media.
Thanks so much for your amazing Descriptions, History of Muzak, fab music Credits, and beautiful Mid Century-70s Visuals to go with The Best Muzak ever!! DYNAMO CHANNEL!
That harp piece at 6:30+ is something I have heard elsewhere recently but I can't place it. Lovely and has a Latin lilt to it, for sure.
DAVID SNELL - "International Flight" Great tune!

Its VERY hard to imagine a Woolworth's (or any other bargains store) existing in Las Vegas that close to downtown. That image of Woolworth's screams Kodak 160T film.
It's surprisingly hard to find real usable pics to fit the tracks. I've already passed on some that looked authentic until closer inspection. But I've never been to Vegas so I'm no expert on that one.
Corner of Fremont and Las Vegas in downtown. Heart Attack Grill is now where Woolworth's used to be. Yeah -- it all looks so much different now!
The "big malls" used to have Woolworths or McCrory's inside them (or Kresge) . NO WAY would ANY mall have a cheap store inside it. LOL. P.S. Does it seem like most modern malls are geared towards WOMEN more than men ?
@@LannieLord I think malls have always been geared more towards men. The malls near me are geared towards SHUTTING DOWN at this point.

I've watched these for a few days and only now just realized that these images were generated by AI. I was absolutely bewildered when I noticed the fingers of the man dancing in the image right around the 27 minute mark.
I'm REALLY hoping that's not the case with all of them and it's certainly not done intentionally. I just do searches for images from the era and use what I can find that fits the music. It's harder than I thought to find useable images. I almost used one that looked like a perfect 1970's lounge and after I blew it up there was a flat screen TV hanging behind the bar.
Ladies magazines & home interior design ideas from the 60s & 70s era & those types of publications are where you'd likely find the best photos. Even vintage cookbooks/home maintenance books are good too. But the ones you posted are pretty great as is the mood music. 🌼🍃🌻🌿🌼🍃🌻🌿🌼
These are not ALL AI generated. Those two boys at 17:20 certainly aren't. The level of detail there, the random trash in the street, cars, background buildings, is still a bit too much for today's AI.
Uh, most of them obviously aren't AI.
@@Tokopol and some of these images are obviously fucked up
Found you yesterday. Love this stuff. Subbed 😎👍
Thanks for the sub!
I'm thinking that the folks in the theater at 13:30 are there for a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show 😉
I don't know whether to be more amused that these are all KPM production tracks, or that RUclips has them all... [ Until I type that, when one is a Valentino track ]
Most are KPM but others sneak in from time to time.
I did put my tv screen on the 4:3 mode ofcourse.

I'm currently in my kitchen washing the dishes while listening to this with the windows open on this breezy early June day. I'm just loving life right now.
Back in the 70s , you would have been a woman
Saturday afternoon, laid on the couch to take a nap while listening to this with the windows open. Once the video was over, I woke up, and while I was not thrilled to head back into the real world, I was happy I took time out to visit my childhood. The nice thing about videos such as yours', it allows me to revisit the better parts of childhood, and not visit some of the unpleasant parts. Thank you.
People could have fun without smartphones in those days.Just belonging together.
You 'dumb phones that have ruined society👀
I agree 💯, but we need smartphones NOW to find this luxuriously swanky music. ❤
@@clyellI was just getting ready to say!!! I’m listening to this on my smartphone right now. I couldn’t have listened to this music on command in the ‘70s like I can today. Big thanks to Stuffer White and all the other channel owners who make this beautiful music available to us whenever we want!!!
Yeah! We would all meet at the Soda Shop and have a malt, or shake and just talk, share our lives...when one looked around, no one's head was buried in a cell phone sitting by themselves... and we read real Books.
@@sitarnutDid _you_ read real books though? Because if you had, you would know the "b" in "books" isn't Capitalized. ;--p
I grew up in the 70s...thanks for taking me on a journey back to my childhood🙂
This sound could be described as beautiful music
That's Because They ARE!
I agree. Muzak was more mid-tempo covers of popular songs of the day; usually dominated by low register piano and swirling strings. But I MUCH prefer this music to Muzak.
I love the music and ambience
Love This, I Put It On And It Keeps Me Company While I "Pudder About " The House.
❤ Duke Ellington once said " There are only two kinds of music; good and bad." This is most certainly the very good kind!

Is it the same music as your dept store?
Or entirely different?
Making dinner and really enjoying the set list ❤ makes me think of Pete’s dragon, Willy wonka, bed knobs and broom sticks and Charlie Brown just to name a few…😃
All great staples of the era, glad you enjoyed it!
I saw Willy Wonka and Bedknobs in the theatre when they were NEW (1971) . I guess I am y'alls age .
56:23 Ah, Woolworth! Now if they'd just bring THAT back, we would all be better off! The ones with the lunch counters especially.
Whatever happened to Woolworth stores? We used to go there all the time and then they just disappeared. 🤔☹️
@@alandale2182 A lot of it was they diversified too much -- specialty stores. Then they decided to focus on sporting goods. Today Foot Locker is all that's left of the affordable grandeur that was F.W. Woolworth.
Thank you very much for uploading all this wonderful music and charming images.
Just wanted to let you know how visually stunning and musically evocative your wonderful videos are. They take straight back to my childhood which seems like only yesterday and I get to relive that era.
Now this is what the stores used to play. 😂 I go to the grocery store now and get a variety of music including Ozzy Osbourne. idk
love the vibes
Uhh, do you know that the McDonalds jingle at the beginning was and is there a longer version cause it’s stuck in my head?
Longer version tags on "We Do It All For You-u"

Nice paneling. Likes my house as a child in the 1970s.
this channel have a good prospective
I have that fireplace lol
That living room image is true story! Considered so ugly by today's standards, but yet somehow back then it just felt right lol
Yes it does FEEL Good.
Why this anti-cellphone attitude? The cell phone is the most powerful tool given to regular people in history. R we not aware of this? Uh-Duhhhh...
Wonderful
Thanks for listening!
Well, the Big Red spot was nice, but I do prefer the version of the music that puts the legato hand at the end, rather than in the middle. :-} Nice package.
No, silly; the music.
Damn you for posting these tunes lol. This is background music, not for stopping to remember good times music! For real though....I love your channel and all these are in my feed!
Another great video! Thanks!
Thanks for coming back!
