I disagree, in the prospect that I find that both books were equally as compelling of a read. I actually liked how realistic it was how you JUST got to know a character and the BAM. dead. 'cause that can sometimes happen. but yeah Tris just gets utterly stupid at some points.
Great review, I agree on most points though I can probably explain why I didn't find the factionless bit so interesting. I find that the best part of this book is the dysopocalyptic setting and how the factions work. I found that Tris was way over thinking everything when the solution was RIGHT THERE. The factionless were uninteresting because they aimed toward a (to us) normal world. They aim toward the opposite of what makes the book interesting, so you aren't interested in their goal.
I completely agree with the things that you're saying. I found Insurgent to be a bit too hectic as far as the narrative was concerned. However, I can imagine that being a sort of plot device employed to help readers get to know the other factions so I guess it was ok. I particularly love what you do with isolating little scenes that you like from novels (here, paint ball thing, in Hunger Games the dipping of bread in chocolate) - it's attention to details that make reading much more enjoyable :)
I agree totally! It's a bit of a filler. I don't really like trilogies and series either. They have a tendancy to be a little disappointing as it develops.
I had to read the ending twice because I was so stunned (and definitely a bit confused) by it, but overall I liked Insurgent as much as any middle installment to a trilogy. Could it have been better? Sure. But I don't like to nitpick fiction too much and I think what keeps me hooked overall is how much I like Tris as a character. I'm interested in seeing what she's up to.
I liked Insurgent a bit more than Divergent because we really got to explore the world a bit more and see all these different things and we delved more into the politics of it all and i really enjoyed it...
I read the book and had many of the same things to say as you. I had to go back and read a bit of Divergent because it jumped straight in without the beginning reminder chapter many sequels have. It very much felt like the author was pushing us towards the 3rd book and this book did not have a complete story to tell on it's own. I enjoyed several parts but I am very much looking forward to the next one to see how it plays out.
I thought it was an entertaining read but I think that has more to do with the fact that I read it straight after Divergent. The writing felt a bit rushed at times, things like that bit about Four/ Tobias "he tastes like water and smells like fresh air" really stuck out like a sore thumb. I also felt that Peter's development was weak, the only reason he existed in the plot was to save Tris so that the story could carry on. I am looking forward to the next book after the big revelation though!
I totally agree, also have the feeling that all these YA dystopian future trilogies always head in one direction (basic story about a few characters and then it sails away to the story about a society and gov, and turns into a "save" the world fight) I hope this wont be another big hunger games - maze runner dissapointing ending trilogy. I think we love the 1st books so much because we dont care about the world, we care for katness, thomas, tris, and that's why the endings are dissapointing.
Really good review :) Agree with most of what you said here. I did find it very frustrating how Tris spent the majority of the book complaining or worrying, which of course is understandable after what happened to her, but it was a little too over-dramatised I think.
I agree with you on a lot of the points you made. I thought this book could have been shorter and the angsty relationship drama did really get repetitive.
i read the two books back to back and i think thats the best way for this series as they seemlessly flowed and the second i agree was more about development of the plot and characters rather than full on continuation of the story. But EPIC BOOKS
I hardly even remember what happened in Insurgent because of how chaotic it was. I feel like Four and Tris's relationship isn't needed (thought I agree, Four is still as attractive as ever!) Their issues were just getting to be too much for me. I think the main reason I still like Insurgent is basically by default of loving Divergent.
I liked Divergent a lot more. Though the characters, such as Uriah, are less flat in Insurgent. I hate the whole section where she turned herself in all the way up until her and Tobias need to escape. It seems kind of useless and long. It could've been completely avoided.
I was very disappointed with it. I felt as if I was being baited along. Nothing is resolved there are just more and more questioned added. Tris is borderline suicidal. She's constantly throwing herself in danger. I agree it could have been 150 pages less. I wrote a review on this trilogy on wordpress. It's called ReadEng. Didi's Press. Check it out!
Your review is pretty spot on with my opinion. Too long, too much lovey dovey forced relationship conflict, not enough actual forward momentum. Though seeing the other factions was cool, a lot of the information was still given in Divergent (or at least implied). I likewise think Insurgent would have done a better job at 300 pages rather than 500.
the male lead for divergent movie coming out is kind out a disappointed for me because Tobias looks VERY attractive in my head before I see the cast. nonetheless, Im still excited for the movie!
I totally agree that Insurgent was excessively long and it was definitely confusing with all the factions and new characters to keep up with. I still liked it better than Divergent though; I had a hard time caring about anyone in the first book. This one I at least couldn't put it down.
I agree, I didn't like insurgent as much as I liked divergent for the same reasons as you - there were just too many visits to the factions I couldn't keep up with. but strangely it has the most positive reviews out of all three books
Insurgent was really complicated. I despised the fact that Tris got so complicated, it was like she was pregnant or something. But Four and Uriah was attractive throughout the whole book. The book was not as good as Divergent, maybe because it was too repetitive. I really hope the last book is gonna turn out awesome!
I'm currently reading Insurgent and I am already coming across the same sort of disinterest in the factionless subplot. I'm not sure why either. I guess because it doesn't really further the story.
Don't get me wrong, I like this story a lot, I have a lot of qualms about Roth's writing. It's very predictable and as you said, she takes a little too long to get around to the point.
I don't know if you've read the Game of Thrones series but, that writing style of killing characters before they have a chance, sounds so much like George R. R. Martin. I think you'd like this series a lot better than this one. Plus, there's a tv series to go with! ^_^ I loved the review. I may pick up Divergent for my summer reading. -Martha
I agree with pretty much anything you said. I felt like Insurgent was a lot better pltowise in terms of expanding the world but the factionless part was really just ok... however, the book was quite enjoyable without surpassing of course Divergent
This is what I found online: dictionary.reference.[com]/browse/erudite (I didn't base my pronunciation on that link btw, I just pronounced it as what seemed most logical to me).
Just discovered your video blogs. I like them a lot. I agree with you about Insurgent. Loved Divergent, but the sequel just seemed like a bunch of running around without really going anywhere. I'll still read the next book, but I'll lower my expectations.
Pretty sure it's ee-ru-deet not ee-ru-dite! Otherwise a great review! I don't agree with everything you said, though. I felt on the whole really positive about Divergent; maybe even liked it more than Insurgent. It's true that it could've been shorter, but I liked reading a teen dystopian novel that took its time for once.
I just finished Insurgent and I loved it. The way everything made sense after the last page and fell into place made this book very special to me. Obviously the first book was gonna be better because we get exposed to the characters and a whole new world for the first time, and the more you read on, the deeper you get into the conflict and the difficult situations. I liked how this book (Insurgent) was long and that many characters appeared and went away again, because it really gave me the feeling that Tris was maybe having. That it all was confusing and just going by so fast, it felt really real to me.
I really hate not being able to watch this video! Because I love watching your vids, but I just bought both Divergent and Insurgent, and they haven't arrived yet, and I don't want to spoil it. You've been talking alot about these books, so finally I caved :P - Chubsie
ahh! good timing! I read Insurgent yesterday and I really loved it - not as much as Divergent, but I love the characters so much. I think they're so easy to imagine as real people and I'm also kind of a little bit in love with Tobias... uh. it's also a book that I'd really love to see made into a movie!
i thought i was the only one who thinks Insurgent was a mess and confusing. i did not enjoyed reading this book, but i will wait next year for the 3rd book. i hope it would be BETTER! :)
I really don't think I want to continue on with this trilogy by reading Insurgent, I think I am all distopianed-out lol, time to read other genres! I'm thinking contemporary! :)
Insurgent had some of the "2nd book in a trilogy" characteristics, as expected, but it went beyond my expectations when its intensity and knack for getting my attention continued throughout the book. I especially loved the cover of Insurgent (especially all of the leaves -- so cool) and can't wait for the 3rd book to be released! :D
did you like delirium the entire time? because i have read around 130 pages and i dont totally want to finish it, it is just not interesting to me. does it get better? do recommend I finish it?
Thanks!
I disagree, in the prospect that I find that both books were equally as compelling of a read. I actually liked how realistic it was how you JUST got to know a character and the BAM. dead. 'cause that can sometimes happen. but yeah Tris just gets utterly stupid at some points.
True.

i agree... i thought divergent was better, insurgent was kinda chaotic
We have the same Union Flag pillow case, how lovely!
I completely agree with the things that you're saying. I found Insurgent to be a bit too hectic as far as the narrative was concerned. Great job on your reviews. You have a very fun and original style to your reviews.
I had to read the ending twice because I was so stunned (and definitely a bit confused) by it, but overall I liked Insurgent as much as any middle installment to a trilogy. Could it have been better? I loved Divergent but I thought Insurgent was too long and it was really confusing and it CRAWLED. WAY to slow.
I don't know what you're saying . I prefer this one over divergent . Because they are so many things keeping you attached to the book
not read the third book yet... but one of my favorite trilogies ever!
you probably shouldn´t, unless you are very hooked on the story, it becomes a mess and the plot it hasn´t got much sense, in my opinion.
Yep! It's on IMDb :D
Just finished reading Insurgent. Great book.

I was definitely of the opinion that it was OK, but no where near as good as Divergent had been.
Veronica said she doesn't even know how it's going to end. She hasn't figured #3 out yet.
Really good review :) Agree with most of what you said here. I did find it very frustrating how Tris spent the majority of the book complaining or worrying, which of course is understandable after what happened to her, but it was a little too over-dramatised I think.

I also thought that the book seemed just a little bit aimless, you couldn't quite tell what the main focus was, or what they should do.
I agree with you. At times I felt like I was scanning through pages for new information then reading them.
Peter reminded me a lot of wormtail.
Your review is pretty spot on with my opinion. Too long, too much lovey dovey forced relationship conflict, not enough actual forward momentum.

OMG you have to read "Beautiful disaster", you probably don't get anything at the beggining of it, but it is such a romantic, wonderful book ;)
I have divergent and it’s Grey but when I bought insurgent it was pink did I get the wrong book 🤦🏻♀️
I totally agree that Insurgent was excessively long and it was definitely confusing with all the factions and new characters to keep up with. I still liked it better than Divergent though; I had a hard time caring about anyone in the first book. This one I at least couldn't put it down.

I actually preferred Insurgent to Divergent. Probably because I thought that the first half of the first book wasn't quite as compelling.
Your videos are AWESOME!! Your english is amazing ;)
Divergent is being made into a movie which is going to be released in 2015 :)
I'm sorry, but this really is not the best way to promote your own channel.
I agree with you, insurgent was somewhat depressing and it was a little boring, divergent has been the best so far.
I don't know if you've read the Game of Thrones series but, that writing style of killing characters before they have a chance, sounds so much like George R. R. Martin. "If Divergent gets made into a movie..."
You do realize this was posted in 2012
This is what I found online: dictionary.reference.[com]/browse/erudite
(I didn't base my pronunciation on that link btw, I just pronounced it as what seemed most logical to me).
I agree Insurgent was abit too long but still good. And I don't like the love between Tobiad and Tris at all.
Tobias?.. me either if im completely honest.
I was up and down with this book. I really don't know how I still feel about this book. It was half for me I guess.
The movie comes out in 2014!
have you read Allegiant yet? I am reading it right now. I hope you make a review of the whole series afterwards!
Saludos desde Argentina!
Get YA tissues ready. Haha
I met Veronica last weekend and it was AWESOME!!!
Just discovered your video blogs. I like them a lot. I agree with you about Insurgent. Loved Divergent, but the sequel just seemed like a bunch of running around without really going anywhere. I'll still read the next book, but I'll lower my expectations.

YES! I call him fourtoe-bee-us (like my own little nickname) because it takes too much effort to say it the real way
ahh! good timing! I read Insurgent yesterday and I really loved it - not as much as Divergent, but I love the characters so much. I think they're so easy to imagine as real people and I'm also kind of a little bit in love with Tobias... uh. it's also a book that I'd really love to see made into a movie!
I wish I was as good at French as you are at English. All my problems would be solved.
The amount of people that died in the first two books is like...
Veronica needs to chill...You can't kill fifty people and expect us all to be okay.
I lovedddd insurgent but I was amazed with divergent.
I thought it was Air-ood-eye-t
Obviously, not the correct way of writing out the pronunciation, but that's how I say it
Oh yeah, you're right, my mistake! I remembered seeing the pronunciations on Veronica Roth's blog and went to check, she says it's said Air-yoo-dyte!
Please review Allegiant.
i thought i was the only one who thinks Insurgent was a mess and confusing. i did not enjoyed reading this book, but i will wait next year for the 3rd book. i hope it would be BETTER! :)
i read both of the books and im not ready to read the last one.....i know what happens :(
I really don't think I want to continue on with this trilogy by reading Insurgent, I think I am all distopianed-out lol, time to read other genres! I'm thinking contemporary! :)
I'm on hold at the library for this book....like 1000 in line.
Have you read/ reviewed Allegiant? i am very interested in what you have to say about it
You really speak my mind about Insurgent! It's a very dynamic book, yet I feel Tris is very unstable about her true self.
For somebody who has no idea what either book is about, this just sounds like Hunger Games.
I read Divergent and stopped there, it wasn't fully justified and explained and I know with the 2nd in the trilogy it wouldn't get better.
well okay it was just a question. no need to be rude about it.
one of the best reviews I have seen on this book!!! great job:)
Probably the best one I've read so far... (Still reading Allegent)
did you like delirium the entire time? because i have read around 130 pages and i dont totally want to finish it, it is just not interesting to me. does it get better? do recommend I finish it?
According to Veronica Roth, it's pronounced Air-yoo-dyte, so she's pronouncing it right. =)
I read insurgent in 1 day I loved it
im reading insurgent right know so for so good
This book was amazing! The Divergent series was amazing and i can't wait to see what the movie will look like!
I agree with everything.
Really awesome review! :D
They r making it a movie!!
I was kind of disappointed in this book. I felt like I was reading an encyclopedia not a novel. =/
Don't worry, it is most definately not.
Review allegiant
review allegiant. I love YA and Divergent is like my ultimate favourite book together with TFIOS. loved insurgent even though not as much as divergent
Calm down! It was a joke. I`m sure plenty of people say that. Doesn`t make it correct, but your not the only one.
Divergent > Insurgent
Great book.
Wow! Seems like it going to be interesting :)
am i the only one who pronounces Tobias like Toe-Bee-Us or
Tobias and tris just. Uhhhhhhh i just got punched. in the feels
Haha Doei! Maar ik vind de 1e denk ik ook beter :)
great review, I haven't read it yet and I've been looking for a review that can let me know what I'm in for without spoiling it :)
Fantastic Review :D
@ArtFeedsAlyx1 I pronounce it like that too lol
Insurgent was amazing!! I think I've fallen in love with Tobias :3
Awesome review! (As always! ;D) I also loved the paintball part! That was one of my favorite parts! ^_^ Great vid, keep it up! -Coleen.
