  • Traking tech is a major tech review channel that now covers audio products? But are they any good?
    A major indian tech channel has started doing audio reviews now....so I wanted to see if they were any good. Honestly, I got mixed results and while, on balance, this is overall a good thing ..they can definitely do better

    On balance, a big tech channel doing audio is great for good audio quality reaching more people and making them aware of the choices out there. So I'm quite happy they're covering this stuff. I also think they could do better, though.

      Not tech RUclipsrs' product sellers; I'm also watching RUclips, then buying IEMs and DACs around ₹12,000 (Indian rupees) is not worth it. See, the last six months, all tech RUclipsrs have been promoting IEMs and DACs.

    I noticed all the "micro details" in your video.😂
    Thanks for that fantastic takedown mate. Trying to find the nearest pit to bury my head in it.
    On a serious note, would love to get in touch with you and have a open discussion on testing audio products.
    For all those worrying about my credibility, please do. Because only criticism will make me better. But, be rest assured that my intention was noble (to introduce ans evaluate new products) even if my review was off the mark.

      There is another reviewer who reviewed astell and kern mentioned that it has a built in dac. All bluetooth earphones need to have a dac because it receives digital audio and it has to convert it into analog. So specifically mentioning that it has a built in dac means others don't have.
      And i wonder what these audiophiles mean, everyone wants to add themselves to that list.
      And what is this hires. Even kz vader iem has a hi res version which is basically the same as that of the balanced version, same drivers except that the bass is toned down. So are they saying that you take an earphone and tone down the bass and it becomes high resolution? Then i can take an earphone and Equalize the bass down and call that i hear hires sound. I believe KZ knows that it does not make sense but want to attract buyers with that term.
      It looks like everyone wants to impress Ignorant audiences and hence using terms like built in dac, audiophiles and hires

    23:30 Reading treble from a 711 graph is quite tricky. The 10k dip is a measurement artifact and the entirety of the treble depends a lot on the anatomy of your ears. The concept of the graph is simple but the nuances of how to interpret them are quite tricky especially with raw measurements which require a lot of knowledge about the measurement system used

    I've come down to two choices : Salnotes Zero 2 and Moondrop Chu II
    (Type c versions as i don't have a 3.5mm jack)
    I am using the CMF Phone 1. Would you recommend 3.5 mm with the audiocular do7 dac or the type c dsp would work fine? Like if I drive them through my phone, will i feel too much of a difference in quality. (Also i would also use them with my ASUS TUF F15 laptop which has both 3.5mm and type c, but i'll mainly use it with my phone and maybe outside as well so i do not prefer the hastle with the dac)

      @imwhatsnew  3 дня назад

      Hi, a USB C iem does save you a bit of money overall but in the longer run having a dongle let's you use other iems you may upgrade to in the future. Both zero 2 and chu 2 are good...can't really go wrong. If you buy the zero 2 you maybe consider using the wavelet app and reducing the bass just a tad for a cleaner overall sound.

    5:49 Valid criticism regarding the lack of context given to the viewer for the frequency response graph. I'd argue that the wider balance of the frequency response shown is fine overall, though not amazing.
    7:16 Provide your own context now. What does that squiggly line mean? Is this a raw measurement, or is it compensated? If it's raw, what did you measure it on, and if it's compensated, what did you compensate it to? I can intuit just from looking at it that it's a weird fr, but the layman won't be able to. I guess you can argue that the average viewer of your channel knows more about reading frequency response than the average viewer of Trakin Tech, but I think if you're going to scrutinize another reviewer's presentation and explanation of data then you should hold yourself to the same standard all the time, let alone in the same video where you levy criticism.
    Other than that, good video, I agree on pretty much everything else lol

    • @imwhatsnew
      @imwhatsnew  8 дней назад +4

      I'm on board with what you've stated. The way I do it is I show the graph (raw ) and talk about it in relatively layman terms (though sometimes I fail at this) and I try and point out what I'm talking about in the graph so that the more experienced viewers have something to watch whilst the layman can follow along. I have zero chance of getting this balance right all the time, but I do aim for some degree of consistency. Massive room for improvement in my presentation, though.

    22:53 i dont think that really increases the resolution atleast not the treble because when I use my crinacle zero red with foam tips I feel like the treble goes down

    • @imwhatsnew
      @imwhatsnew  4 дня назад +1

      Foam tips usually reduce treble a bit. But, because the isolation is so much better, usually it's easier to hear the detail. Hence, the increase in 'perceived' resolution.

    Recently some things have come to light about majority of indian tech reviewers . And how the marketing and pr agencies finely script and control everything said in a video as part of their contract. Brands are now making it mandatory to include certain key words when they are making a review . So all the words you pointed out I'm guessing is part of it . I'm into audio myself and I've seen almost every indian RUclipsr out there that deals with audio and one thing I've found is that there 2-3 websites and companies that are the majority of indian audiophile segment , and whenever they get a newly imported product they push it on to these reviewers and they make videos promoting it , which is basically just a paid ad , they probably would have only reviewed a couple of or 1-2 devices from 2-3 brands and will immediately put out a video saying this is the best for this price range without actually looking at everything available in that range at that time. Also they carefully choose which existing devices they are comparing it with to arrive at a pre-planned verdict. They don't have or use any of the testing gear like other audio reviewers in the rest of the world , but they base almost everything on individual anecdotal experience which doesn't include things like overall fit and seal that's different for individuals and their listening or hearing capacity. So it's 99% along the lines of "trust me beo this is good" and thats it . Also they mostly do one week reviews and say a product is awesome , but people who've believed them and bought those devices realize after 3-6 months that the build quality and durability is pretty pathetic and quality control issues are so damn high , and these were never mentioned at all . Also these people keep a couple of tracks or songs as their favorite and then judge these devices based on how those particular songs sound and it should have been a known fact by now that each song will vary based on the tuning and the size of the driver, the number of drivers or its technical specifications doesn't matter as much as how well it it tuned , what are the tolerance levels and precision they were designed and manufactured to be at and the durability and level of quality control in their manufacturing . So yeah these are just basically ads pushed by these audio stores through these reviewers. People have lost trust in these kinds of reviewers and now only watch them like any other entertainment video to see how low are they ready to stoop down to to get more views and more paid sponsorships from brands and stores that sell these things online and offline.

    23:01 I've got a small disagreement cuz while they do isolate noise, they also tend to mildly darken treble right, how does that translate to a better resolving experience as per you?

    • @imwhatsnew
      @imwhatsnew  8 дней назад +3

      This is very true...for me, subjectively, a quieter environment helps me resolve details better even with a relative drop in energy in the treble. So I usually don't mind a slight reduction in highs if it's an inexpensive way to gain perceived resolution.

    • @imwhatsnew

      @@imwhatsnew@imwhatsnew recently bought qkz x hbb iem. Its a warm set. 2 negatives with it. One is a little bit of boominess in mid bass and secondly little bit of sibilance in the upper treble. I use hiby music player. In the PEQ, kept sub bass until 80 hz as it is and reduced 125 hz and 250 hz by 2 db. Then in MSEB, kept -25 for bass texture(bit faster) and -25 for sibilance(lesser sibilance). With these settings qkz x hbb sounding better. So eq and MSEB made the iem better sounding..

      @harrish1480 a type c to 3.5mm dac would improve matter a lot !. Generally codes don't matter a much as the tuning of the iem itself ..because most firms aren't tuned that well. But you may still get an improvement from from sbc . Overall the biggest upgrade you can get is a good USB c to 3
