Thanks for stopping by Flag Staff. There are quite a few Pueblos on the north side of IS40 off 89. That area is surrounded by several peaks. It was a holy ground for the ancient Indians. Somehow I felt the same when I was there.
Thanks for taking me along. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and healthy. Happy adventuring. That Walnut Canyon was beautiful. I bet if you could find a game trail one could get down to the bottom. I wonder how many cliff dwellings a person would find in this area. Thanks for taking the time for stopping and sharing. Have a great and wonderful day of travel.
Good morning, just saw yesterday video! I play my video by phone and TV video at same time so not to miss this..lol. pine trees my favorite. OMG! Nice overhang!
Hi Russ. What a great place looks really peaceful. Tree's make a difference when you are looking into the Canyon. The landscape doesn't look so bare.Stay safe.
When you passed the sign on your way in for the trail head on your right, if you turned left on the well maintained dirt road it’s all dispersed camping for about 3 miles. That’s where we have been for the last week. Beautiful, free, and hardly any one around.
Nice video, thanks for posting it! My wife and I visited Walnut Canyon today. All trails and gift shop are open. Awesome place!!! Can’t imagine how they raised kids in those cliff dwellings!
Love all your trips. Arizona has some awesome views. Would like to have you read the story boards. So many times we have tried to read them, no success. Please read the story boards on your videos'. Thank you for taking us on your trips!
I just watched this and the Grand Canyon video. I have lived in Arizona for 32 years, been to the Canyon many times, but I have never seen these empty like this. My wife and I are heading there in a couple of days and see if it is still lightly populated. Thanks for the videos.
hey thanks again for the great video cheapest vacation I have ever done and there is a fire near sedona get your butt movin down the road don't want a toasted roasted russ. nor smoked you won't be able to breathe
Morning Russ, Thanks so much for this little side trip to Walnut Canyon. Too bad the trails down to the Ancient Cliff Dwellings was not open. Save it for the next time,he he. OK, I'm ready for the next trick up your sleeve. Too the Beast and BEYOND! See You Soon!
Went there about 20 years ago . At that time people were allowed to hike down into the canyon and walk around the Native American rock houses , similar to the Gila cliff houses in New Mexico. I can imagine them sitting around the evening camp fire and having a conversation with their neighbors across on the other side of the canyon. If they would allow it , be a great drone video opportunity . Thanks for the video !
Russ. Next time you go back, pay more attention to the cliffs across the canyon , there are cliff Dwellings . When the trail is open , you can go all the way to them.
When I was young and in the military we had dealing with a Ranger unit. We were at a place a little like that in the Rockys, no canyon but hills and mountains to the horizon. The Sgts look out and tell the CO they can make ‘that peak’ in 5 hours. He nods and off they go. It was like to the horizon they were going. Over a bunch of ridges and an odd mountain. My hat off to those guys. Dark sky places are sweet. It’s a shame about light pollution. It will get better in time. Took a long time to get this bad and now cities and states know and taking action. I’m a fairly serious amateur astronomer. I have to drive 2 hours to find a dark sky site. Only do if a few times a year. Thanks for the ride. Blue sky’s for sure. Nice. Stay safe.
That is an amazing place the trail down into the canyon is awesome me and James from wanderlust eStates went down it a few years ago warning it's a whole lot of stairs 😂. But worth every step.
Got snowed out when I was their , way down their is definitely a place you want to see . It's special . I'll be going back one day . Thanks for reminding me . You should go back too . Ccp virus
Just got home from that area. We probably crossed paths. Did some dispersed camping above Lake Mary and the next day, Sunday, above Williams at Whitehorse Lake. Beautiful part of the world. Thanks for your vids Russ. I'm a new subscriber. Appreciate the views and info. Love your rig.
You definitely have to go back there as you missed the best part. Even on the view-points you can already spot graneries and little ruins hanging in the canyon-walls.
You missed the wildlife at that little garden, Russ. Think it was a chipmunk, it was moving fast. When your phone went off immediately after looking at the fauna storyboard I thought, "Oh, no! Russ is about to be mauled by a bear!"
The Walnut Canyon Monument is actually down in the canyon. The Indians lived on a peninsula of rock that attaches to the canyon wall with a small walkway. It's a steep but paved hike down to it where you walk in a loop around the peninsula.
I really enjoy your tours. I can't wait to hit the road after retirement... Can anyone recommend a good video camera for a NOT so tech savvy old fart? I'd like to be able to see my trip when I get home and maybe try posting on RUclips.
Hi Don from Australia. I use a Samsung S20 Ultra mobile/cell phone as it can record in 8K or 4 K (which I use).I download onto my computer and edit using Video Pad then upload to You Tube. Good luck in your video endeavours..
I agree cell phones take great video nowadays. I believe he uses one of the newer “go pro hero” cameras on this channel. They do everything automatically and the video quality is nice.
Have you been to a sink hole near Williams that has a sessional water fall and Native American writings on the rocks? I just saw it on the internet. It looks neat. If you haven't it would be a good one to see. I'm really enjoying your day trips.
The growth in Flag from 20 years ago is unbelievable. Macy's coffee place is still almost the same except for Wifi and tattoos. The houses on the East and West of Flag are unbelievable. Many million dollar houses. Shultz pass road and Lockett meadow are my two favorite places.
GOOD MORNING, I WANT TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME TO LET YOU KNOW OF...OAK CREEK CANYON...SOUTH OF FLAGSTAFF, ON THE WEST SIDE OF US 17....THIS PLACE MST BE SEEN IN THE FALL AT COLOR CHANGE. ALSO NEED TO GO IN FROM THE NORTH. WE WERE THERE IN THE FALL OF 1974, AT BOTTOM OF CANYON, WHICH YOU DRIVE THROUGH, WAS A BAR, WE WALKED IN AND THERE WAS DOLLAR BILLS HANGING FROM CEILING. ESTIMATED TO BE OVER $1OOO,OOO.00. THE BAD NEWS IS IT BURNED DOWN. JUST TO LET YOU KNOW. WORTH THE DRIVE. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, SGT CHARLIE
William, I went to our local Public Lands Office and they had National Park Rangers helping those who want to purchase Senior Lifetime Passes to all National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands. It’s $80. It was quick and easy, but don’t lose it. They do not keep records of who purchase them so have no way of replacing lost ones. So, if you make it to Fairbanks, I’ll show you right where to go.
Flagstaff is the place to be this time of year

Was at the canyon in 2016 and the trail was closed then for maintenance I think. Too bad it's closed again.
Russ you need a "bigger" van for all your fans!!
Also how about Florida Az? It's a neat place.
What do you mean,Bears see Russ and think he's going to maul them!

Do you have a video that explains the lifetime pass you have, where to get one, cost, etc ?

Sorry, the place I got mine is called the Alaska Public Lands Information Center. I’m not sure if other states have such things.
I am really enjoying your trip. I have a Golden Age Passport Lifetime Admission Permit. Is that what you have?
Far_ OUT...Man...!!
Rolling stops...🚔
Strange the picture froze but I could hear your voice, when I went backwards the video showed up.
I'll bet it's nice to be able to film these paths without the crowds and [some] people getting weird about being 'filmed'.
Russ you really saw nothing, go back when its open
This place has the staircase from hell.
🗽🗽🗽👍👍👍👍
You missed it, now I'll have to watch someone else's channel.
