- In the midst of the ongoing dispute surrounding a disrespectful tweet from a Maldivian minister directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his recent visit to Lakshadweep, notable Indian celebrities have turned to social media, encouraging people to consider the Indian archipelago as an alternative tourist destination. The controversy erupted on Saturday when Maldivian minister Mariyam Shiuna ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lakshadweep visit.
Shiuna, the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment in the Maldives, referred to PM Modi as a 'clown' and 'puppet of Israel' in now-deleted posts on X. The tweets were removed following a backlash on the micro-blogging site. While the Maldives government distanced itself from the insulting remarks made by its minister on Sunday, continued outrage was evident on various social media platforms. Numerous celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar, Salman Khan, Kangana Ranaut, John Abraham, Shraddha Kapoor, and others, encouraged their followers to "explore Indian islands," causing the hashtag to trend on social media. Indian celebrities joined forces in supporting PM Modi's initiative to promote domestic tourism.

The present government hates India and has been elected by majority of Maldives’ citizens because of “India Out” slogan.
The ministers have been ‘suspended’ and not removed. Hence this is just a tactical move to stop further damage to Maldives’ tourism industry. The Maldives government is not serious about India’s angst on such derogatory and racist remarks.
We will not stoop down to their level in our reactions. But since Maldives government and majority of citizens want India Out then let’s boycott Maldives, irrespective of strategic location of that country. Self respect is more important than Geo Politics.

If the government is promoting tourism for Lakshadweep, i am assuming that certain areas should be available to visit to the public. Also if permission is needed , it can definitely be applied for. A good and reliable tour operator can take care of these issues. More importantly it would have to be determined how many people can visit at any point of time. Overcrowding has become a major concern at various popular tourist spots across the world. Perhaps we should plan for a certain level for tourists right from the start and place in appropriate infrastructure that will help us manage tourists. After all we should also think about the local area and our impact on it
Permit is also required to visit the north eastern states but no one is being stopped to visit there, follow the rules and you will have your permit to visit not a big deal

Uncontrolled rush of tourists to Lakshadweep is going to cause great damage to its pristine beaches. The beautiful beaches will be littered with plastic bottles, empty wafer packets, food waste etc etc. See what is the condition of popular beaches in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. So unless there is a proper plan to preserve the beauty and serenity of the environment, do not over promote Lakshadweep. It already has a prominent place in Indis's tourism map.
