You say this but Sega (or at least the company that makes the anti piracy software they use on Sonic games) are actively trying to kill Sonic modding. Actually using the anti cheat to make it impossible to mod.
The non chibi player mod does look interesting, it's also convenient that all trainer NPCs have non chibi battle models. Only issue are the NPCs that don't battle, they probably don't have alt models.
very true, the chibi looker model was created from scratch by the team though so i think they have the ability to make other new ones, would just take a long time haha

Tbf Game Freak is putting out a new game/DLC every year For the future of the franchise they should stop doing it so the games are of higher quality imo. I would rather have less games in total if that means each new title is better than the last

Hell I'd nuke my current save file (backed up first ofc) and start over just to experience the whole game in non-chibi form. And ofc having access to the full dex for that playthrough too. That's how much all of those QOL udpates would make me want to play the game again.
Honestly surprised how everyone hated the chibi thing. Pokemon was literally chibi for 18 years and then suddenly everyone was like nope not having it anymore. 2016 really is a new timeline
So glad to see Barry's stomping animation again. While it was something small, it felt like it added so much to his character. I'll never understand why it wasn't added.
Having the games made with Unity opened up such untapped potential. Conversely RPGMaker will release their Unity plugin sometime this year still, which means we may come to see fan games that look as good as this pretty soon, the fact that the assets can easily be copied into a standalone project with no relation will also greatly speed up the production process of these fan games. Pokemon Essentials marked a golden era for fan games, with GF even taking many ideas that originated in those to later incorporate in their official releases, but the modding/fan game maker community will be really foolish if they do not pick up on that potential. Heck, even without an RPGMaker plugin, Unity already makes so much greater things possible, but since people have mostly stuck with RPGMaker this plugin is a blessing that will hopefully bridge the gap.
Don’t know if I’m too late but… Please correct me if I’m wrong but, I’m pretty sure this theoretically means that we, as a community, can we remake all mainline games in unity with the base of BDSP. Unreal if true.
I've been watching Team Luminescent for some time now and I am just amazed at each new thing they show us. They really are just making BDSP what it should've been and more.
Pokemon Company should really hire these passionate, talented modders. Instead of C&D'ing the fan games, they should reach out to their creators and to make future games better.
On the other hand, the fact they are letting this happen means they don’t care about Sinnoh anymore, and means that they will let the mods happen. When they stop caring, we actually get needed fixes.

When he shows the shadows and materials, i am absolutely blown away. It looks so incredibly good, i really hope that pokemon does something like that, other than how their doing it in scarlet and violet.
I may disagree with this being the worst Pokemon game (since at least this game doesn't run like f**king molasses unlike the DS originals lol, we have been spoiled immensely by emulation), but the mods are insane, especially at the pace at which they're able to do it. I think the one with the most potential is with the overworld, the fact that it's possible to replace the chibi models with the in-battle models is a start, but if it's possible to modify the map and expand the scope akin to the size of SW/SH's routes, I think we'll have a masterpiece on our hands.
I was gonna respond saying these games run fine, but then realized I play them on a "new" 3ds, which can run ported wii u games at a lower resolution no problem, and these handheld pixel art games from 2006 still have frame drops here and there. Wow were these games unoptimized
I mean if you're talking about Diamond And Pearl, sure it ran badly. That's why Platinum is considered the definitive way to play the game. Game speed was generally improved, especially while surfing and during battles. And by that logic, all the 3DS Pokemon games are the worst due to the poor framerate, unless you're running on the last model.
Fun fact, gen 8 was the first gen since gen 4 not to have looker. He’s in platinum obviously. He’s in the BW postgame. He’s in XY, ORAS, and Sun and Moon. He basically became a staple of the main series until swsh

3:40 ever since i did the Crystal Onix texture mod for Pokemon Let's Go, its made me very happy to see somebody has done the mod again for each game after where Onix appears. SW/SH modding was too new for me to try and make it again myself given how different the poke' models were set up. its seems the proper tools got figured out and somebody else made it way later.
Modding BDSP will always be my gift back to my first ever generation, we will never stop for now! (The outfit in the thumbnail was made by yours truly, I couldn't help but brag aaaaa)

@@PurpleThunderNE Gen 4 was always cool. It’s the best Pokémon Gen for a reason. (Both Plat and HGSS were the zenith of Pokémon quality.) Unfortunately, the complete reset (too many changes) in Gen 5’s first games and the subsequent laziness of X and Y kind of ruined Pokémon forever, it seems. Though games like Legends Arceus and the upcoming Scarlet/Violet mess make Gen 5 and X/Y look like solid gold, lol. And yes, Gen 5 is absolutely the root of the problem. Even if some people like those games for whatever reason, the complete reset made me basically quit Pokémon altogether for a while (didn’t come back until USUM) since it turned utterly unrecognisable, and the bad reaction it got from pretty much everyone at the time made GF afraid to make ANY changes. I think it would have been a LOT better had they originally released Gen 5 not as a reset but as basically BW2, where you could see the new stuff but also have the old. Making a complete reset like BW where NOTHING is the same and may as well be a completely different thing altogether/making a lazy “remake” like BDSP where EVERYTHING is the same and all they did design-wise was make Dawn and Lucas white/brown/black (which literally no one cares or even asked for), are both really bad extremes. I think HGSS/ORAS have been the best remakes thus far, tbh, because they made enough changes to make them interesting but didn’t change literally everything like with Legends Arseus (which, where on Earth is “Hisui” ever mentioned in D/P/Pl? Nowhere. The idea of having a Pokémon game set in the past is cool and all, but they should have made that be Scarlet/Violet instead of Sinnoh, since they just basically retconned the whole canon of D/P/Pl’s Canalave Library, which had books going back to basically the beginning of the SINNOH region - no fucking “Hisui.”) Literally the only problem with ORAS was the exclusion of the Battle Frontier, and stuff being a bit too easy (Steven giving you a LATIOS/LATIAS like at the beginning of the game LMAOOO. But they expanded on character lore with pretty much every character, and new characters like Lisia were super cool additions. I wish this is what we would’ve gotten in BDSP, but instead all we get is just being able to make Dawn and Lucas brown/black/blonde, which literally no one with a brain asked for/adds zero relevance/substance to the game or lore. Wow….) I also wish they’d have improved Sword and Shield with a definitive “third” version instead of basically memory-holing Gen 8 and making an even worse-looking version in Scarlet/Violet. I will say at least Gen 8 had amazing character designs. Gen 9 just looks like they got a bunch of Tumblrinas to design the characters/it seems we’re going back to the Kalos cringe of having a “group” of very dull-looking rivals, smh.

They take models they've already made and tailor them towards a specific game. Why would they waste time making the models again? The BDSP Modding Scene Is Moving So Fast That I Can't Even Keep With It. Like From Small Scripts Like Legends Move Learner To A Work In Progress National Dex(Yes, The Entire 914 Dex) BDSP Seems To Be The New Fire Red.
Hey. How come within 9 months, a dozen or so fans were able to make Pokémon BDSP look, feel, and play better than ILCA's base game? Like... why couldn't ILCA pull a Sonic (the movie) on these games with the 9 months they had between the announcement and the release and have something like this? It's just so baffling.
The thing is ilca helps with resources on a project like helping with bulding s and scenery,but they were tasked to make a full fledged pokemon game and as female at thst. Fudge are probably rushed to help and back to make the g and and it's a shame what we got
Probably because gamefreak handed a classic title off to some random developers who aren't associated with pokemon, and know little to nothing about it. So why would these random developers get creative freedom in developing a pokemon remake? Use your fucking brain, dude. It's clear that gamefreak instructed ILCA to make a faithful remake with few changes and the chibi style was closer to the originals. You people will act like legends arceus is a good game because it has no chibis even though the game is so low effort that its insulting. The game was made with Unity which is one of the most documented and used game engines nowadays, unlike all other games in the franchise which are made mostly in C, so modding them is extremely easy.
@@RukiStudios the game being made with unity is a factor, sure, but as someone who's been following the game's modding journey so far, it hasn't been "easy". This has been made possible through tools created by team luminescent, with exception for UABEA by nes. Saying it's simple because it's unity kinda devalues their work a lot, not gonna lie.
Me either. I nmyself haven't tried any of them before, despite having a hacked Switch where I can indeed install them. But this one is really making me want to try the mods. Keeping an eye on this project for sure!
There should also be a chibi version for each poke if you still want to use the chibi design of the characters. Or something. Idunno. Otherwise, all these mods are fantastic! I can't wait to see things improve for the game we all know and loved back in it's hayday!

No. And the chibis look really awful. No one wanted a “bridge” between the old 2D/3D games. We wanted character redesigns and updated graphics that actually looked good, like Gen 8’s human characters. Pretty much the only good thing Gen 8 did.

I loved the chibi style and the pure bones of what it was, but Pokemon consumers will never truly be happy and none of them get that. If its not 100% exactly what they want, they throw fits, especially when none of them know exactly what went down in the designing process and what type of oversight GameFreak had over ILCA and everything that went into the development of these games. I can't wait for the upcoming Pokémon Tangy Ketchup and Spicy Mustard! I heard they were greatly expanding the backstory of Team Pants and finally explaining why Paramount Pants got ketchup spilled on his pants, how it caused him to spiral into depression, and how, ultimately, he was rescued by his Scraggy who helped bring him back from the brink and drove forward his desire to change the world instead. It sounds really exciting! Also I can't wait to get one of the new Wasabiponi as a thematically-fitting addition to my fire team!
This just makes me even more sad that they just........didn't do some of the bare minimum for the remake, and got rid of things instead for no clear reason
As someone who did genuinely enjoy BDSP, it's honestly mindblowing to see what they could have been. I was looking forward to Sinnoh remakes for as long as everyone else, so it was a bit of a disappointment to have it fall solidly in the lower mid-tier range, especially because the only reason it scored as high as it did was simple love for Sinnoh. Seeing people take this game and put so much love and effort into making it the game it should have been absolutely fills my heart with joy. Also, everything looks sick as hell, and I can't even BEGIN to fathom how they did it.
Extremely excited for the future of BDSP modding. Hopefully with enough time people will only make romhacks of BDSP and abandon the dated romhack scene of FRLG. All of this is possible because BDSP uses the Unity game engine.
This mod is awesome. I'm glad people mod games, since the Pokemon company usually can't, mainly due to a market pipeline that causes Game Freak to work hard, while most of the money is the TCG and plushies... This is why modders and rom hackers exist. To have fun while designing an altered take of the base game.
You will never stop me saying this. I'm still annoyed that BDSP are Like That™️ and them saying 'we're staying true to the original' when every past remake has used that gens engine and look, and they've been amazing. It's a shame that just like Disney they've grown complacent and just make anything without caring about how good it is cause that have a fiercely loyal fan base
I love how them releasing this game in the state it was created the framework and drive for crap like this to happen. People are making ROM hacks of their game within like the first year. And the level and scale is unbelievable we couldn't do this back on the DS within a year. We're still very limited in sword and shield though.
Rn the non chibi mod looks a bit odd in this video, aside from the obvious I think it’s because the textures and the overall look in the world look very simplified and cartoony compared to the player character, simply put, it’s a miss-match of artstyles. Other than that it looks amazing
Can someone explain to me why, WHY is this so difficult for a freaking big-ass company to understand? All we ask for is a little TLC in the games. They could easily just give us an amazing game with the technology they have and they point-blank refuse at every opportunity.
Because they sell millions by doing a little effort. Why do you have to do a big effort if you have millions of dollars guaranteed regardless the effort you do? The Pokemon franchise is so huge that they no longer care about quality.

Why obviously go through that effort if it was going to be received poorly on release. No, it doesn't matter that everone's loving Gen 5 now, it matters that many *hated* *it* *back* *then* *when* *it* *came* *out* and that was when most of the sales were made. Because if that is what it was, then what was the point putting in that effort? At least we could acknowledge that we haven't been very good consumers either.
This is why the fanboy excuse that GameFreak doesn't have enough money to make the games properly holds no water; ignoring the fact that GameFreak has a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR budget, people are doing this on their own time in their mom's basement FOR FREE.
Really looking forward to this one. I've been playing all of the Pokemon games since Gen 1, and using PKHex to transfer my collection between games as I go. I'm currently at the endgame of Sacred Gold (I've been using mods that make all of the Pokemon available, because screw trade requirements when playing single-player), and the endgame drags on A LOT, with the requirement for Arceus being to catch literally every other Pokemon. I'm kind of burnt out on it at this point because I already played Gold back when I did Gen 2, and am ready to move on to Blaze Black/Volt White. Having mods like these ready for BD/SP will be nice since it means I can take it slightly easier on the games leading up to that point. I am trying to de-level my collection back down to base forms and lowest-possible legal level, because a lot of Pokemon got major stat changes and improvements and my older ones are pretty useless. (Plus, I'd like to see the animations now that I'm going into Black/White, and the models when I get to X/Y) It would be nice if somebody already had the PK3 and PK4 files for that available online, so I'd just have to change Trainer names to the ones I used, but the only ones you ever see are max-level Smogon-ready collections.
after seeing the clone pokemon sprites, i now just want somemone to mod in a event where mewtwo host a tournament and you have to fight all the original clone pokemon and maybe a few new clone pokemon before getting to fight him
I played BDSP once for like 15 minutes and it just wasn't that great for me, but once all these awesome mods are finished, I might get into it. Looks awesome
I was expecting a cool game with some new features but what I saw blew my mind, that's so impressive how some hardcore Pokemon fans can create literally one of the most awesome Pokemon Games ever made (Nr. 1 is still Gen 5 sequels). Gamefreak frickin hire those guys and never let them go!

Hell I'd nuke my current save file (backed up first ofc) and start over just to experience the whole game in non-chibi form. And ofc having access to the full dex for that playthrough too. That's how much all of those QOL udpates would make me want to play the game again.

Having the games made with Unity opened up such untapped potential. Conversely RPGMaker will release their Unity plugin sometime this year still, which means we may come to see fan games that look as good as this pretty soon, the fact that the assets can easily be copied into a standalone project with no relation will also greatly speed up the production process of these fan games. Pokemon Essentials marked a golden era for fan games, with GF even taking many ideas that originated in those to later incorporate in their official releases, but the modding/fan game maker community will be really foolish if they do not pick up on that potential. Heck, even without an RPGMaker plugin, Unity already makes so much greater things possible, but since people have mostly stuck with RPGMaker this plugin is a blessing that will hopefully bridge the gap.
Don’t know if I’m too late but… Please correct me if I’m wrong but, I’m pretty sure this theoretically means that we, as a community, can we remake all mainline games in unity with the base of BDSP. Unreal if true.

Pokemon Company should really hire these passionate, talented modders. Instead of C&D'ing the fan games, they should reach out to their creators and to make future games better.
On the other hand, the fact they are letting this happen means they don’t care about Sinnoh anymore, and means that they will let the mods happen. When they stop caring, we actually get needed fixes.
Unfortunately they're a Japanese Company and given how they're business practices work, they would be against hiring these people.

When he shows the shadows and materials, i am absolutely blown away. It looks so incredibly good, i really hope that pokemon does something like that, other than how their doing it in scarlet and violet.
I may disagree with this being the worst Pokemon game (since at least this game doesn't run like f**king molasses unlike the DS originals lol, we have been spoiled immensely by emulation), but the mods are insane, especially at the pace at which they're able to do it. I think the one with the most potential is with the overworld, the fact that it's possible to replace the chibi models with the in-battle models is a start, but if it's possible to modify the map and expand the scope akin to the size of SW/SH's routes, I think we'll have a masterpiece on our hands.
I was gonna respond saying these games run fine, but then realized I play them on a "new" 3ds, which can run ported wii u games at a lower resolution no problem, and these handheld pixel art games from 2006 still have frame drops here and there. Wow were these games unoptimized

Game speed was generally improved, especially while surfing and during battles.

3:40 ever since i did the Crystal Onix texture mod for Pokemon Let's Go, its made me very happy to see somebody has done the mod again for each game after where Onix appears. SW/SH modding was too new for me to try and make it again myself given how different the poke' models were set up. its seems the proper tools got figured out and somebody else made it way later.
Modding BDSP will always be my gift back to my first ever generation, we will never stop for now!

@@PurpleThunderNE Gen 4 was always cool. It’s the best Pokémon Gen for a reason. (Both Plat and HGSS were the zenith of Pokémon quality.)
Unfortunately, the complete reset (too many changes) in Gen 5’s first games and the subsequent laziness of X and Y kind of ruined Pokémon forever, it seems. Though games like Legends Arceus and the upcoming Scarlet/Violet mess make Gen 5 and X/Y look like solid gold, lol.
And yes, Gen 5 is absolutely the root of the problem. Even if some people like those games for whatever reason, the complete reset made me basically quit Pokémon altogether for a while (didn’t come back until USUM) since it turned utterly unrecognisable, and the bad reaction it got from pretty much everyone at the time made GF afraid to make ANY changes.
I think it would have been a LOT better had they originally released Gen 5 not as a reset but as basically BW2, where you could see the new stuff but also have the old. Making a complete reset like BW where NOTHING is the same and may as well be a completely different thing altogether/making a lazy “remake” like BDSP where EVERYTHING is the same and all they did design-wise was make Dawn and Lucas white/brown/black (which literally no one cares or even asked for), are both really bad extremes.
I think HGSS/ORAS have been the best remakes thus far, tbh, because they made enough changes to make them interesting but didn’t change literally everything like with Legends Arseus (which, where on Earth is “Hisui” ever mentioned in D/P/Pl? Nowhere. The idea of having a Pokémon game set in the past is cool and all, but they should have made that be Scarlet/Violet instead of Sinnoh, since they just basically retconned the whole canon of D/P/Pl’s Canalave Library, which had books going back to basically the beginning of the SINNOH region - no fucking “Hisui.”)
Literally the only problem with ORAS was the exclusion of the Battle Frontier, and stuff being a bit too easy (Steven giving you a LATIOS/LATIAS like at the beginning of the game LMAOOO. But they expanded on character lore with pretty much every character, and new characters like Lisia were super cool additions. I wish this is what we would’ve gotten in BDSP, but instead all we get is just being able to make Dawn and Lucas brown/black/blonde, which literally no one with a brain asked for/adds zero relevance/substance to the game or lore. Wow….)
I also wish they’d have improved Sword and Shield with a definitive “third” version instead of basically memory-holing Gen 8 and making an even worse-looking version in Scarlet/Violet. I will say at least Gen 8 had amazing character designs. Gen 9 just looks like they got a bunch of Tumblrinas to design the characters/it seems we’re going back to the Kalos cringe of having a “group” of very dull-looking rivals, smh.

The game was made with Unity which is one of the most documented and used game engines nowadays, unlike all other games in the franchise which are made mostly in C, so modding them is extremely easy.

This has been made possible through tools created by team luminescent, with exception for UABEA by nes. Saying it's simple because it's unity kinda devalues their work a lot, not gonna lie.

And the chibis look really awful. No one wanted a “bridge” between the old 2D/3D games. We wanted character redesigns and updated graphics that actually looked good, like Gen 8’s human characters. Pretty much the only good thing Gen 8 did.

If its not 100% exactly what they want, they throw fits, especially when none of them know exactly what went down in the designing process and what type of oversight GameFreak had over ILCA and everything that went into the development of these games. I can't wait for the upcoming Pokémon Tangy Ketchup and Spicy Mustard! I heard they were greatly expanding the backstory of Team Pants and finally explaining why Paramount Pants got ketchup spilled on his pants, how it caused him to spiral into depression, and how, ultimately, he was rescued by his Scraggy who helped bring him back from the brink and drove forward his desire to change the world instead. It sounds really exciting! Also I can't wait to get one of the new Wasabiponi as a thematically-fitting addition to my fire team!

As someone who did genuinely enjoy BDSP, it's honestly mindblowing to see what they could have been. I was looking forward to Sinnoh remakes for as long as everyone else, so it was a bit of a disappointment to have it fall solidly in the lower mid-tier range, especially because the only reason it scored as high as it did was simple love for Sinnoh. Seeing people take this game and put so much love and effort into making it the game it should have been absolutely fills my heart with joy. Also, everything looks sick as hell, and I can't even BEGIN to fathom how they did it.
Extremely excited for the future of BDSP modding. Hopefully with enough time people will only make romhacks of BDSP and abandon the dated romhack scene of FRLG. All of this is possible because BDSP uses the Unity game engine.

I'm still annoyed that BDSP are Like That™️ and them saying 'we're staying true to the original' when every past remake has used that gens engine and look, and they've been amazing. It's a shame that just like Disney they've grown complacent and just make anything without caring about how good it is cause that have a fiercely loyal fan base

I love how them releasing this game in the state it was created the framework and drive for crap like this to happen. People are making ROM hacks of their game within like the first year. And the level and scale is unbelievable we couldn't do this back on the DS within a year. We're still very limited in sword and shield though.

Rn the non chibi mod looks a bit odd in this video, aside from the obvious I think it’s because the textures and the overall look in the world look very simplified and cartoony compared to the player character, simply put, it’s a miss-match of artstyles. Other than that it looks amazing
I bought pokemon shining pearl and instantly regretted it, legit tho if I can just mod my game into something else then it was 100% worth it omg

Can someone explain to me why, WHY is this so difficult for a freaking big-ass company to understand? All we ask for is a little TLC in the games. They could easily just give us an amazing game with the technology they have and they point-blank refuse at every opportunity.

Because they sell millions by doing a little effort. Why do you have to do a big effort if you have millions of dollars guaranteed regardless the effort you do? The Pokemon franchise is so huge that they no longer care about quality.

Why obviously go through that effort if it was going to be received poorly on release. No, it doesn't matter that everone's loving Gen 5 now, it matters that many *hated* *it* *back* *then* *when* *it* *came* *out* and that was when most of the sales were made. Because if that is what it was, then what was the point putting in that effort? At least we could acknowledge that we haven't been very good consumers either.

This is why the fanboy excuse that GameFreak doesn't have enough money to make the games properly holds no water; ignoring the fact that GameFreak has a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR budget, people are doing this on their own time in their mom's basement FOR FREE.
Really looking forward to this one. I've been playing all of the Pokemon games since Gen 1, and using PKHex to transfer my collection between games as I go. I'm currently at the endgame of Sacred Gold (I've been using mods that make all of the Pokemon available, because screw trade requirements when playing single-player), and the endgame drags on A LOT, with the requirement for Arceus being to catch literally every other Pokemon. I'm kind of burnt out on it at this point because I already played Gold back when I did Gen 2, and am ready to move on to Blaze Black/Volt White. Having mods like these ready for BD/SP will be nice since it means I can take it slightly easier on the games leading up to that point.
I am trying to de-level my collection back down to base forms and lowest-possible legal level, because a lot of Pokemon got major stat changes and improvements and my older ones are pretty useless. (Plus, I'd like to see the animations now that I'm going into Black/White, and the models when I get to X/Y) It would be nice if somebody already had the PK3 and PK4 files for that available online, so I'd just have to change Trainer names to the ones I used, but the only ones you ever see are max-level Smogon-ready collections.
Time will come when people will be making ROM Hacks with BDSP as a base.

Rom hacked games in the near future will be something truly special to behold. Gamefreak better step it up big time.
Pokémon needs to just let mods happen like in Skyrim. The game was made so much better by mods.
I think the cherry on top for BDSP mods would be if someone made a delta episode mod involving Arceus and Volo 🤔
after seeing the clone pokemon sprites, i now just want somemone to mod in a event where mewtwo host a tournament and you have to fight all the original clone pokemon and maybe a few new clone pokemon before getting to fight him

BDSP are going to be like Fire Red in terms of messing around with stuff. Maybe some wicked rom hacks can be made from BDSP eventually
Just goes to show that the Pokemon community doesn't want some shiny extravagant new gimmick, we just want the game to be _slightly_ more polished.
I played BDSP once for like 15 minutes and it just wasn't that great for me, but once all these awesome mods are finished, I might get into it. Looks awesome

I was expecting a cool game with some new features but what I saw blew my mind, that's so impressive how some hardcore Pokemon fans can create literally one of the most awesome Pokemon Games ever made (Nr. 1 is still Gen 5 sequels). Gamefreak frickin hire those guys and never let them go!
