Sports cards are a wonderful hobby. It's a choose your own adventure, Vintage, Rookies, Inserts, Rarity, Player Collections. When I first got into collecting, it was all Arsenal cards. I just had so many, and i wasn't as committed with it. I entered a lot of breaks and just had junk everywhere. When my favorite player (havertz) signed for us last summer, I cut the breaks, stopped collecting everyone and put all my focus on his cards. I get a lot more compliments on my havertz collection now, and I love looking at all of them. Currently collecting all of his Arsenal prizm, 2019 topps chrome (leverkusen) 2022 World cup prizm and 2018 rated rookie.
Nice video! Agree on the rainbow collecting with prizm. Not as eye appealing when its not really a rainbow, just slight variations of the same handful of colours.
yes yes yes. You'll save money (so be in a better position to buy the card that will be really meaningful to your collection) and be in a better position to spot that card when it appears with fewer distractions

His modern (14-20) are my favorite
His ultra modern was my least until they came out with his Miami kit sets…

Good assessment. With the ridiculous number of parallels in ultra modern soccer sets, I think eye appeal with a combination of rarity and association (did the team win the UCL, World Cup, etc that year) is a good baseline to start with. The number of parallels is a problem that's growing bigger everyday, unfortunately.
I'm going for my first rainbow of a young American player that I won't name at the moment. I'm also leaking those cards into my grading submissions in the hopes of having an all 10 collection of the youngster. I think that if I can get one of every parallel but miss out on the superfractor, although I will be a bit disappointed, I think it's still a cool milestone to have. AND if the player becomes a household name one day, then I will have ammunition ready to fire at the market at the earliest opportunity. 🤓⚽
surely the world cup being in usa holds promise. Like you said best be ready in case. Otherwise might be too late as can see big spikes during that time but also big falls after it all settles.

Great video... I really like the "math" that you present on the Messi/250 ... are roughly 1000 better parallels IN THE SET... plus all the other sets and plus it is nearly a 20 year of the playing career... in arguably his least desired kit.... what future can a card like that have.... also love the Treble "on sticker" autos... great choice...
if can give an example to go with the vid. Part of my collection is focused on world cup as for me always been the pinnacle of the sport. Want to do a display which has a mini ball from each world cup with cards from certain players in each tournament. The golden boot, golden ball, silver ball, bronze ball, Youth and gloves winners and of course a team winners card. I have my list of players i need to obtain and can tick them off as i go.
Self restrictions are important when collecting
i only collect autos. i have no idea why people would pay extra for the same picture but with /10 /25 /50 etc
I also mainly collect autos, not only but mainly. I would only buy an auto card at this point at a show or shop or on eBay.
I do like to buy and rip hobby boxes though, so I do like to collect numbered cards a bit…but just for my favorite players. If I get a numbered card for a player I don’t collect I just sell it to fund buying autos. One of the things I like about ripping boxes is I get things I discover I like that I would not have purchased. I pulled an /5 Lucio auto this year and it’s sick, love it, would have never bought it for $150 or whatever.
Just my two cents, but I don’t agree that buying the 1/1 of a particular card but then not building out the rainbow means that the 1/1 doesn’t really matter. Could it just mean that the other cards don’t matter to the collector?
Certainly up for debate, that was just my opinion. From my perspective, if you have the 1/1 you've completed the hardest part of the rainbow, so it's strange that someone wouldn't want to go ahead and finish it if they really thought that it was a card that mattered for the player. However with the state of modern collecting (20+ parallels) I could see how someone couldn't be bothered.
its overall a top video thank you for producing this. my view on this 1/1 v.s. entire rainbow discussion only also goes to the cost. For example, for a great player (but not CR7, Messi or even Modric), lets say a 1/1 is typically $1k. however, for most of the series it would have over 25 parallels (e.g. 2021 topps chrome have 31+ in main and 2022 Prizm has 22+ excl choice and breakaway). in this case, buying all those parallels would cost another $1k if not more (and if lucky enough to find /5 or /10). And you are totally right that the whole rainbow is difficult to move even if complete. The alternative is to spend $1k on another 1/1 of the same player that i collect and if really need to move it, a 1/1 is much easier to move than a rainbow. just my two cents. @@UsmntSoccerCards
I think most people have to buy a large variety of cards before they figure out what they want to collect. That’s been my path.

if you collect, collect whatever you like. If you want to make money, you need to take many things into consideration. Too much to go into just know many say they make money but in reality their spouses are telling them why you always spending so much money on cardboard lol. Enjoy it, its meant to be a bit fun to share with like minded people.
you make a great point about when buying. have a plan and dont just buy randomly. Know what you want before diving in.
it makes no sense to try and make any profits off modern. Over produced crap. Every player has 1000s of autos , its a joke honestly. And dont get me started on refractors/prizms , same card in 50 different colors. its a huge grift nothing else!

English football cigarette cards starts at the turn of 1900 and bubble gum cards in the 1950's, the only lull was when Topps pulled out in the 1980's (when only panini stickers were available) but returned in 1991, before you start propaganda do some research!
I don't know what you're referencing in particular from this video, but I'm well aware that England was producing collectible products in the 1900's (even earlier 1880's-1890's also). I know some of the big names at the time too. Also well aware of 50's issues and 80's issues.
If you're so disgusted by my videos, don't watch and create your own.
