These Bears Put Your Household Items to the Test

- In Montana, the most dedicated product testers in the industry get ready to work every day. They problem solve, put their hairy, hairy backs into it and get the job done. Never mind that they’re 600-pound grizzly bears. When bears become habituated to human food, they are often considered dangerous and are either killed or put into captivity. So to keep both bears and people safe, the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center in Montana uses large grizzlies to test bear-resistant products. If the bears are unable to break into a cooler or trashcan in one hour, they get the grizzly seal of approval. If not, the bears get a much deserved lunch break.

I can definitely say that this is important. I can't even count how many times a bear has broken into our trash over where we used to live in Alaska. They're just crows, but stronger.

sadly there are still bears being captive for bile farming. people need to spread and stop this. this is crueler than just killing them for the meat or paws. the farmed bears live in cages and got an iron stick stuck on their stomach to extract their bile. if you care to read here is a link.

roni nontroll Holy Shit. I never knew that this was a thing. Thank you for sharing this bit of information. I read the article, but it doesn't really relate to what I was saying? I just said that bears often broke into our trash. Well, the bears seem to be healthy and are kept in pretty big cages. They seem to be perfectly healthy. Also, I read the Wikipedia article that you linked, but the story of the mama and baby bear wasn't there. Was it on another website? Thanks for informing me on this matter anyways.

Noplay It's a pretty good test to me. The bears usually get scared away by something or get frustrated if they can't get inside and will usually give up after 30-60 minutes where we lived.

grew up in this little town, my mom drives by here everyday. fun fact... my chiropractor is locally famous for working on the sedated bears at the center who had back problems. true story.
