Here PJ Proby is interviewed and gives us a great liveversion of Hurt, a very beautiful song made famous by Proby´s friend Timi Yuro. From UK breakfast TV n June, 1984.
8 o'clock in the morning, but it has all the Proby ingredients: wonderful timbre, incredible range, every note hit right on the head and that hint of "going over the top" that made him the greatest male vocalist ever. Glad he's still among us and delivering the goods.
Rolfrol1 I totally agree with everything you say. I have been involved in many youtube "discussions" because some people have said the most terrible things about P.J. which he does not deserve. I really should ignore these nasty people but sometimes cannot. To me Elvis & P.J. are both wonderful singers. Ron
Gosh what a nasty guy, he crucified P.J. Proby and tried to ridicule him. I would have just got up and walked out if I were him. Lovely, lovely voice and he did the song justice.
i dont know where that comment has come from ,i didnt put it here ,i never use the words nice try ,ive never heard pj sing hurt,i only heard it on here now, friends have had access to my pc so am goin to check this out if they left comment ,having heard pjs version ,im sorry ,i much prefer elvis version ,his voice is more powerfull, and incredible singing hurt ,
Nice try, but not good enough. And here's why. Firstly, he's navigating familiar waters which, in this case, he purposedly wants to avoid, trying to come up with some kind of arrangement that is just his. Deep down, he knows than he can't top any of the three versions he knows exist, namely those of Roy Hamilton, Timi Yuro and Elvis Presley, so his solution is to bring something new to the song, singing it in an over the top fashion, extending the verses, and so on and so forth.

PJ is a legend , beautiful voice...!
Beautiful singing voice PJ proby.
Britain can't handle talented people.
Look at the talentless TV AM hosts of the early 80's
BEAUTIFUL, JUST BEAUTIFUL.
The interviewer doesn't have much to say, but Proby's performance of Hurt is great! What a voice!
