Many, many thanks Simon. I have just followed your tutorial and fixed my amp. Without your help and the link you provided I would have been looking at a costly replacement for the sake of an 80p component going wrong. If you factor in the environmental cost of scrapping and replacing it you've done the world a favour! Thanks again.
My amp stopped powering up last week, so I watched your video, and for the small investment of £2.50, I replaced the capacitor that you pointed out as the likely culprit. You were correct Simon, my amp is now up and running again! Thanks for the video.
1000 Mega Thanks Simon! I tested the voltage on IC252 and it was good at 7.5V and I was getting a good 10.1 Volts from the standby power supply so I really didn't think this fix would work but I tried it anyway. Lo and behold IT DID WORK. I tested the old capacitor and it's value was 4.7 nF, about 22% of what it should be (22 nF 630V). Thanks again.
My Yamaha DSP-AX750SE had the same symptoms. Looked identical inside. Replaced the capacitor and bingo all working again. Thank you for posting this and saving me a lot of hassle. 22nF 630v polyester caps were £2.20 for 10 on Ebay.
Thank you for the video fella..!! My Yamaha DSP Amp developed a power fault a week ago. Symptoms were... It powered up ok then when switched off it had to be unplugged and then plugged in again to power up again. After watching your video I obtained the part you suggested. Fitted it, which took about ten minutes and now my Amp is as good as new..!! Thank you so much for putting this video up. Much appreciated :-)
Hi Simon! Thanks for the video, I've fixed a friend's Yamaha DSP-AX759SE by changing the capacitor as you suggested, & it now turns on & off no problem. He's a very happy bunny! Thanks again
Brilliant - exact same problem, this fix did the trick. Part delivered in two days following the Farnell link below from Peter, and fix took less than 5 minutes.
You’re a Friggin genius I followed your advice and ordered a 10 pack from amazon (only a quid from Korea) 3 weeks later , hey my amp is good to go . Thank you
My Yamaha 759SE is not powering up and it may be the same problem. I'll have to check it out properly to see if there's any other faults. Thanks for the video, it's given me some hope of a fix.
thank you Simon , i have changed the capacter and now the Yamaha is working a treat ,you have save me a lot of aggro from the Mrs she was saying your not getting a new amp. thank you again Simon.
After watching this I managed to fix mine as well, so thank you. Just for information mine, was ax761 model, so was slightly more difficult to get to the capacitor with it being at the base of the receiver.
Thanks for sharing that - hopefully I won't ever need to carry out any repairs. My 759SE keeps on going strong, and as such, my whole HD setup remains component video based !
About to give this a go on my Yamaha RX-397 stereo amp. Heating up the soldering iron now to take it off, then off to JayCar Electronics to get the new one. Will let you know how I go Simon.
Had it sitting there for three months and even read a few forums, over the last week or so...and about to give up on it, till I saw your video Simon. Very happy here. Thanks again.
Gavin Bridges - Hi I have the DSP-AX761...which I believe is very similar, with the same issue, but I can’t even locate that capacitor (the internal layout is different), any hints please? Thanks Paul
Gavin Bridges Hi, my 861 has now died on me, enquiring if you still have a spare capacitor, also is it as easy as in the video, I have never done any soldering in my life. Thanks Steve steve-dawson@ntlworld.com
thanks for the tip - will bear it in mind if mine ever plays up in this fashion. Just for information as the original link is now deleted and in case the eBay listing also gets deleted, the capacitor details are: (e.g. Panasonic) 22nF (0.022uF) 630V Non inductive metallized film (also for Yamaha YSP900)
It seems to be very common with these newer home theatre receivers to have the same problem. You see so many for sale on the second hand market that don't power up.
found it thanks.. the power board on my ax761 was horizontal under another couple of PCBs and behind the transformer so not quite as simple as the one in the video, but it's worked. Many thanks.
Hi...also looking for the location on my 761....would really appreciate anyone’s help...think I have found it, but not 100%...is it right next to the adapter for the mains wire?
Hello 👋 simon had seen both videos discussing cold spraying the capacitors and replacing to start your yamaha amp...Here's my question.... i have model rx-550 and it powers on and by trouble shooting it has audio 👂 but no display some of the audio av works but the phono sounds very scratching on the speaker output....how can i come and troubleshooting this issue any resources or tricks to get display working? and the scrachy audio output? Thanks You hope to hear from you
good day. i have a yamaha RX-V863. everything works in amplifier using the remote but the buttons on face of amplifier does not work. can u give me advice if possible. thank you
Mate u got beerss paid when u r in germani.excellent.my model is rxv100d (uk) but i reconised the power supply..1.7 euro later and it works. Who.is seeking the capacitor...i got 9 spares
G'day I've just replaced the one in my rx-v550. This has not fixed the problem. Power is still turning off after a few seconds. What else could be the problem?
Thanks Simon, you've helped me save my 759SE, which my family could not survive without (we have 6 AV devices going through it !). I even got my 6 year old son to help me with the desoldering/soldering as he's interested in learning about electronics. We measured the 'failed' capacitor at 4nF and the new one was 21nF, so that seems to make sense. The capacitor arrived next day from an eBay seller (same item referenced by Ethan Beck) and cost peanuts: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131528486292
Many thanks, Simon: I had an old Yamaha amplifier which stopped working. Ordered new capacitor from Farnell as a shot in the dark before taking the amp to a recycling centre. They were really helpful - told me exactly which part I needed from what was written on the old capacitor. I'd never soldered a circuit board before, so followed the clear guidance on another You Tube video: ruclips.net/video/AqvHogekDI4/видео.html. No need to remove the circuit board - just turn the amp on its side so the circuit board is horizontal when you solder. Amp is now working like new!
Followed the instructions on this video and my amp now works perfectly after a repair costing me about £1.70. Thank you!

Worked for my dsp ax761...with absolutely 0 previous soldering skills! Cheers dude!

Thanks, worked for me. Sharing is caring. All the best and keep up the good work.

Hi Gavin. The link no longer works; I have the exact same receiver as you. What Capacitor do I need to buy?
thanks for the tip - will bear it in mind if mine ever plays up in this fashion. It's alive!! Thanks Simon!
This worked on my AX761 also. Good Fix. Cost £1 for the capacitor.
hey there... can you tell me if the capacitor is in the same place on the 761 as I have the same problem. Many thanks...
yes, at the rear on the power board.
found it thanks.. the power board on my ax761 was horizontal under another couple of PCBs and behind the transformer so not quite as simple as the one in the video, but it's worked.
