I've had this product for a little under a year (Using a Samsung Galaxy S6). The only draw back; is you need to put your phone in Airplane Mode to avoid wierd cell phone wave sounds that occur whenever your phone attempts to communicate to the cellphone towers. Other than that... it works great.
Curious, why does your video quality change when you test the new mic in your phone? 1) The one where you are testing the mic is actually clearer? 2) you're using a tripod with the 2nd? Also, the places where you are telling us about the mic, the sound quality .... improves?... :-) When you talk about distance, how far away ARE YOU when using the Video Mic Me? Looks like about 2 feet?
Thanks for the video, if you're going to have multiple people talking would you still recommend the smart lav? I'm thinking interviews, and live streams?
Maybe get a 3.5mm headphone jack so the mic is not on the phone but connected through the cable to the phone. It might eliminate the tapping sound. It happens because it has shock mount on the mic.
Thanks for your video- after using this I've found the audio recording level is very low.. Is there a way to boost the levels without adding too much noise? Thank you
@@dkosho8 it should be more directional than your phone's inbuilt microphone and therefore when pointed at you especially outside and should cut down the distancing ambient environmental sounds outside compared to your phone's mic
Great vid but I have a question, I bought a VideoMic Me to go onto my phone to record very noisey Punk Rock gigs. I d/l their Rodereporter app and the problem I'm having is it is simply to sensitive, I've lowered the settings to minimum but the sound from the gigs is simply to loud for it and the level on the app fills the level bar into the red which obviously is distortion. Basically the mic is useless and my inphone mic is doing better, am I missing something or can you recommend a good neat mic that connects using type c on an android phone?
Great video, thanks! I just bought a rodelink wireless kit + sc4 adaptor, but when I start recording videos on my iPhone 6 or android phone (Honor 7), it still capture the sound from the phone and not the external mic. Anything I should do? Any app or settings in the phone to get the sound from the internal mic? Thanks for your kind help!
Dear Caleb, hello! I"ll buy a Rode ViodeoMic Go for my DSLR Nikon, but i would like to know if this MIC work in smartphones too, as a Motorola Moto G5 Plus. Thanks for attention!
Dude, you just tripped me out. I seriously think I'm in the Truman show. I had been messing around with this mic trying to get it to work (still haven't), and after a bit decided to look up how these android phones work (im on iphone normally) and as I was watching you started testing and the SAME SONG YOU WERE USING TO TEST I WAS AN HOUR EARLIER! Freaking weird man. Freakin weird. Good video.
U said it only lets u listen to the audio while u record if ur in that app, if ur in the regular camera app will it still work, but just not let u listen while recording?
I can't figure out how to get monitoring audio out. It's frustrating how limited the audio recorders are. What they need is a floating control widget which one can use over other apps (such as a browser) to control recording while reading a script or whatever.
I have 2 question: Firstly does it do well in loud environments (130 dB) secondly does this mean I can use the mic while listening to a conversation using earbuds (having a Skype conversation)
I am using Huawei mate 9 so the headphone jack nearer to the camera so if I use that fluffy it will cover my camera. Please recommend good and inexpensive external microphone for Huawei mate 9 user.
Great review, thanks. You suggest the Rode smartLav+ if you're going to be a little farther away, but I wonder if that advice applies in noisy situations where you want to take advantage of the shotgun style to eliminate side and background noise. In my case, I want to record in my car while driving so the ability to filter out road and wind noise is the main thing I'm concerned about, but I would be mounting my camera on my dash somewhere, so the distance from me may be an issue. For my case would it be better to get a lav up close (on my shirt or perhaps the sun visor) or use a shotgun style mic on the phone (or perhaps extended out to the visor)?
Shotgun mic would be better, but when you're far away from the Videomic Me, it doesn't pick up very well. Either of the options you described should work well in a car. I'd try both to see which you like best. Caleb Pike has a video about doing this too: ruclips.net/video/amaiVwVmmdw/видео.html
Thank you so much for helping to choose right video recording camera I am using one plus 6 in my phone noise cancellation is not there so when I go to club parties my video recording audio cracked so Is this video recording mic good for my one plus 6?
Ever had a prob where it doesn't work on a android I got another I'm going test in a little bit but my first it just shows up as a headphone and no audio is recorded
I try recording this on my android phone. When I play it back the sound is too low but in certain spots in the video they are loud. What does it mean??
Thank you for the video. As it seems you need an app to use this correctly, I was wondering if this would work when doing a live feed for something like going live on facebook?
Thank you for this video. I just received my VideoMic Me in the mail yesterday. I am trying to use it with my Galaxy Note 5 and I am hearing 3 sounds when i use it. A crackling a thumping and a ruffling. I have tried it with the windbreaker on and off. I have also tried it not holding it, just sitting it on a tripod. I have even tried it with my iPad figuring perhaps it's just because it's an Android and i am having the same issues. Any suggestions? Because I am really considering returning it. Suggestions would be much appreciated. THanks
Anyone know of a decent table microphone for Android? Kind of like as if you were going to do a talk show? Anyway to hook up 2 "table microphones" to one Android phone?
I'm having a problem with my videomic me and was wondering if you can help me. I just opened it brand new out of box. I recorded my 1st video and I'm getting a heartbeat noise on my video. The only way to make it go away is to plug a headset in. As soon as I unplug the headset the heartbeat comes back. I do have my phone in airplane mode also. I have an iPhone. Any advice would be helpful before I think about returning it. Thanks.
I just bought this mic in eBay. I have a galaxy s6 edge plus. I did a test but there is a static sound when I do playback and raise all the volume. Is there something I am doing wrong or is it my phone doing a wrong contact?
If it is the internal hum, it can't be fixed. If you raised the gain too high in a audio recorder program it could be that too. Test the audio gain with what ever program your are using if it has that functionality.
I heard that you can only use in airplane mode otherwise it picks up lots of interference which makes it unsuitable for streaming. Can anyone give their thoughts or experiences?
I can confirm this at least with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, my girlfriend's S6 is just fine though. So I assume it must have something to do with where the internal parts are placed.

Thanks for the video, if you're going to have multiple people talking would you still recommend the smart lav? I'm thinking interviews, and live streams?
Is it good for recording acoustic guitar?
Wondering the same thing!
GREETINGS FROM ME SIR.I HAVE ONE QUESTION.IS THIS MIC COMPATIBLE WITH ALL SMARTPHONE?
Love your review.....I am an Android phone user...will it require an app on the phone to make it work?
For live show recording is it good? Can we have good bass?

Caleb Wojcik im trying to make gaming videos and every time I make a video I can hear me tapping my phone and its just so loud, Please Help!!

Is it good for voice acting and stuff like that? is it high quality or not? just asking. need some help before buying it.
Thanks for your video- after using this I've found the audio recording level is very low.. Is there a way to boost the levels without adding too much noise? Thank you
I just bought it. And I don't feel any difference when I record from camera mic or rodemic me. I have OnePlus 6

Joshua Santiago really nigga
that is a question, i am also interested in
Joshua Santiago someone answer this question!
The specs say it will handle up to 140dB of sound, so it will be a huge improvement over the standard iPhone microphone.

would you suggest this for recording acoustic music videos with the phone?
Does it works on android without installing any app? Just an open camera?
Will this work through an otterbox or will i have to take off my case?
This. Is. PERFECT! I needed something like this so I can actually voice my videos.

What were you complication with using it with a case (even a small one) on the phone?
you recommended this for close use. is 10 feet out of range?
+Chaz Mcdonnell If you were going to be that far away I'd go with the Rode SmartLav+: amzn.to/21DOKbu
Is it good for vlogging
Would this work well for recording singing from, say, 2-3 feet away? And could it handle louder noises/notes?
Does it support android phones
Thanks for this. This will definitely help my channel grow!!

I'm not sure on the first question. I'd guess not. And yes, you can plug headphones into it while using it.
Would this work with the iphone 7 or 7 plus?
What about long distance?
Also catches the sound well?
The iPhone microphone in the distance works quite well for such a small thing.
It works best when you are within a few feet of it. Arms length.

hi, can i use this mic for Gopro? I'm sure i will need an adapter 3.5m jack to mini usb.

This for a phone, micro for a camera.
are any of these good to record a live concert?

doesn't come with deadcat. on amazon it's sold separately.
Ah, bummer. The one I got had a deadcat come with it.
luckyyyyyy
on their website it's advertised as coming with it.
It just got delivered and comes with the deadcat.
Can you still use it if your phone is on a selfie stick?
It plugs into the headphone jack, so the selfie stick would have to be bluetooth or something.
I just bought this mic in eBay. I have a galaxy s6 edge plus. I did a test but there is a static sound when I do playback and raise all the volume. Is there something I am doing wrong or is it my phone doing a wrong contact?
I could be the internal hum of the phone making that sounds happen.
AdamUPNow thanks bro is there a way to fix that or needs to be taken to a technical specialist?
If it is the internal hum, it can't be fixed. If you raised the gain too high in a audio recorder program it could be that too. Test the audio gain with what ever program your are using if it has that functionality.
Can you help me for what is jack on this microphone, opposite side from dead wombat?
It is a 3 mm jack.
Very cool! Didn't even know they made something like this!
