Yah when waves stack up they multiply in power, so even really small waves could drag you around if they stack up, I can't imagine what the power of THAT was... It was like 18 effin feet...

There are no words to describe how heavy that must feel , i cant believe how he could survive that , i have been worked by 6-10 footers and thought i was going to die at the moment of impact , i cant imagine what that feels like.

WOW !! This old man has taken his share of beatings. Nothing like these though. They're all unique, yet the language : rag doll, washing machine, tumblesault, tombstoning, pearl, caught my rail, climbed my leash, & thought "OK, I'm not gonna die, just relax;" used to describe them transcends generations & distances. I felt their pain each and every time. I also know the elation of breaking the surface, staring at a mountain of whitewater with a smile on my face.
Mad love to EVERYONE that charges, from the 3 foot ankle snapper shorepound, to the nomadic big wave hunter. That wave at 2:19, whew. That looks so shallow, so close to shore, piles of sharpened rock, thousands of gallons of water moving, shifting, & dumping and it gets this caption........."Somewhere in OZ." A wave so gnarley, it isn't even named. Nah, nobody claims that spot. It's just somewhere.....in OZ......watch out for flying monkees, cuz you ain't in Kansas anymore.

Saint Matthew Yea seriously train yourself to hold your breath for 5 mins if you wanna surf those huge waves anyone healthy can manage that with training. World record in comparison is 22 mins.

@@terminative Its one thing to hold your breath for 5 min. but to do it in "combat" situations? Seems like that's a whole separate skill.

Garret Macnamara's was probably the closest to death because it was a 2 wave holdown..He was just about out of breathe when the wave let him go...The shipsterns one looked so terrible but then again its a drainer so the wipeout doesnt last as long. Respect to everyone in this vid.

I've heard the spare air is harder than it sound to access while getting rag dolled. the instant inflatable vest with pull cord is more effective to my understanding
And in comparison, I got tossed this morning, my back hitting the ground......and that was on a THREE foot wave!!

@Pazmore good idea.. now to find a way to make the tanks light and durable enough... just emagine the explosion of the tank if it hit the reef xD would be pretty scary

The shipsterns wipeout is by far the most awesome.....disturbing. That wave just looks so mean and unrideable, I guess on this occasion it certainly was!

shippies will always have the most intense wipeouts just for the waves sheer weight. a 10footer at shippies is equivelant to a 20foot break anywhere else in my opinion. just its intense power and those mindblowing steps!
