- Granted U.S. citizenship in 1917, many Puerto Ricans migrated to the U.S. mainland, particularly during the mid-20th century, where they interacted and formed relationships with diverse ethnic and racial groups. Military service also brought Puerto Ricans into close contact with Americans from various backgrounds, leading to interracial and interethnic marriages. These relationships and marriages often produced offspring and many of them are famous people that are interwoven in mainstream American culture.
We are going to look at 10 of these famous people and I bet there are at least 2 or 3 on this list that you would have never imagined have Puerto Rican ancestry.

I just recently started a Patreon page for those that are able and would like to support my channel, www.patreon.com/c/coquireport... I've been happily making videos about Puerto Rico for over two years because it's important to preserve our history and culture. However, ss you may know, it takes a lot of time, effort, and expense to make these videos. Your support would ensure that the channel continues and it would also allow me to make better videos. Here's the link again www.patreon.com/c/coquireport... Thank You!
Let’s not forget one of the greatest Hector Elizondo 100 percent Puerto Rican 🇵🇷
Hector was totally passed up for a quintessential Puerto Rican part as the titular Popi in the film "Popi". Instead they cast a Jewish actor Alan Arkin. The movie was actually very good but it would have been even better with an authentic Puerto Rican actor like Elizonndo.
@@zombiefulci3301 Hector Elizondo was mom is Puerto Rican and his dad was from Spain.

Love this, I’m Puerto Rican. I was always told I do not look like a Puerto Rican, but both of my parents are from Puerto Rico.
Puerto Ricans dont have a distinctive look. ❤
Me too!
A comment such as that, from other people, is a product of ignorance!
You've been lied to
And how Puerto Rican look? We are a mix of different races that’s why we have white, black, indigenous and the mix of all those!!
Good job! I've always known this about my heritage: the diaspora is worldwide: Irish and Scottish PRs due to the merchant marines during WWI, Hawaiians, and so many more-the list is huge! Lots of times, I chuckled because a dead giveaway was their strong recognition of PR heritage, and many times, congas and other Afro-Cuban instruments, maybe even a PR flag proudly displayed in a room they paid homage to. And many could not even speak a word of Spanish.

@@sotomonin8616still workig at your 90s just made you famous.
The Army connection was huge! As a kid in the 60s and 70s I remember many of my military relatives and friends who came to PR for vacation with a Polish, Black, Italian, etc partner. Was cool to see these PRs originally from up in the mountains (jibaritos) or slums speaking in English with their nice physiques and proudly showing the island and culture (food!) to the visitors.
Also in that list:1) Reggie Jackson, one of the best baseball players in baseball history 2)Sonia Sotomayor, first hispanic and Puertorican Supreme court justice 3) Joaquin Phoenix, born in P.R. to north americans parents 4)Benicio del Toro, Luis Muñoz and many others.
@user-of5wh8xf9k The list is of people who are part Puerto Rican not full Puerto Rican..

Being Puerto Rican this interests me, would like to know more about this, keep it up sir!! Thank you!
He just born here by chance....none of his parents are from PR.
BENICIO DEL TORO . PUERTO RICO
We can also add to the list country singer Scotty Mcreery. His paternal grandmother is Puertorican and he is very close to her.
That would make his Dad part PR. DUH
Other notable mentions; Sammy Davis, Jr., Reginald Jackson (NY Yankees), Bernie Williams (NY Yankees), and so many others. Well done!
Bernie Williams is full fledge Puerto Rican both parents are from PR & he was born there🙏🏽🇵🇷💪🏽

What do you mean? The majority of us are Boricuas ( Borinqueño (Gentes/People of the island Borikén (Borinquen), which means “Land of the Valiant and Noble Lord) of our blood and especially it's line is mainly dominated with the Indigenous or Native American Tribes. From all around, first and foremost from mainly the Caribbean and all along Gulf and both the Greater and lesser Atilles and down the Atlantic then back into the jungle and Great Amazon Basin is were those people Columbus mistakenly called Tiano, We told him we are Tainos which simply means brave, noble and good people, who were currently battling the Cribs. They are ( the mean, bad, war mongering cannibalistic and parasitic ) one of many off shots and related but hated brethren/sistern tribes of our Grand and Great Arawak National Tribes. Arawak are a group of Indigenous peoples of northern South America and of the Caribbean. The term "Arawak" has been applied at various times to different Indigenous groups, from the Lokono of South America to the Taíno, who lived in the Greater Antilles and northern Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. Our blood line and tribes will never go extinct as long as there's a drop of blood our lines will always exist, the only way they can wipe us out and make us extinct, is if your mind doesn't think.
@@KingC1418 Puerto Ricans are not Taínos and Taínos were not Puerto Ricans. We🇵🇷are descendants of Taínos but we are not Taínos. Puerto Ricans are an ethnic group formed by the mixing of different races (mainly Europeans,Taíno indians and Africans) of people that immigrated to PR🇵🇷 throughout the centuries. Trying to present Puerto Ricans as a "Native American tribe of Taíno indians" is incorrect because genetically we are not fully Taínos. The average PR🇵🇷 is about 10%-20% Taíno, and the rest of our DNA🧬is mostly 60%-70% European and 15%-25% African plus small %s of other ethnic groups. Probably you are confusing the mithocondrial DNA which is used to determine the matrilineal haplogroup (ancestral maternal genetic lineage) with the nuclear DNA🧬which is used to calculate the different percentages of ethnic groups present in a person's ancestry. Scientists found that the mithocondrial DNA of Puerto Ricans is mostly Taíno and about 60% of PRs have a Taíno maternal haplogroup, probably that makes you think that we are "Taínos". The truth is that a white Puerto Rican or a black Puefto Rican can not say they are "Taínos" only because they have Taíno mithocondrial DNA. Maybe a Puerto Rican that look like a Taíno indian AND also have a Taíno maternal haplogroup can get away claiming that he is "Taíno", but the vast majority of people in PR🇵🇷 can't do that.👀
