I have been listening to this Masterpiece for more than 35 years, saw at Carnegie hall 20 years consecutively and took many people there. In my view it is the greatest Masterpiece ever written. the more i listen to it, the more I enjoy it. God bless all these great performers.
This shows that despite the covid, masks, lockdown etc, rejoicing, show, life will continue. it gives me the hope (to hold on to), that I badly need now.
Wish I had found this recording sooner! What a gem. Thank you so much. I listened to the old CD recording every year growing up. Hearing it from the same group but new and freshened up is such a treat!
Very nice performance. Kudos to the singers, players and conductor - and to the production staff - for continuing the tradition wonderfully. Professionals all!
Thank you for your additional creativity to enable us to connect to one another through music. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy beautiful sounds with amazing singers and instrumentalists. You have made it possible to be out in the world with one another while at home. Happy Holidays to all of you who participated - and that means the technicians as well!
Hello and a VERY BIG THANK YOU from Johannesburg, South Africa. I love, love, love this work and this is an absolutely wonderful performance. Thank you for making this happen, despite Covid, and for the extraordinary effort, love and kindness put into this. SDG.
This is a great performance! The covid pandemic is stillgoing on. How could anyone fault them from trying to protect themselves and others. I know my words will fall on deaf ears. I salute The Oratorio society of New York!
Thank you for the great effort made by all to bring us this wonderful Christmas present. It sounded great. I can personally imagine how difficult it must have been for the chorus to sing widely spaced outdoors. Also, my hats off to Heather for repeatedly putting the mask on one handed. Bravo to you all.
A big thank-you to all the musicians and technicians involved for this excellent heart-to-heart performance! To those questioning the masks: some contagious persons may not exhibit any symptoms at all, or only very mild ones, and the best defence against communication of the disease is to mask and to avoid enclosed spaces, both are being demonstrated here with musical brio!
I miss singing this at Carnegie Hall with the OSNY of NY. Thank you for sharing this. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year! Stay safe and healthy.
You are one of the irresponsible people who have taken this pandemic to tragically perilous heights in the USA, I presume. You owe the whole choir and production team an apology for this most unbelievable statement!
What does the piece’s name matter? We sing the entire Divine Liturgy in masks, socially distanced, and of course acapella. The divine services do not suffer from mask wearing.
Look at the masks particularly on the singers - please what are ppl thinking - you cannot sing - or even play instruments properly with masks. A travesty and a desecration to this holy holy work. I'm having a difficult time watching this grand work reduced to this unbelievable setting. And I can hear the difference in the voices of the chorus.
Hear the difference? You realize you are depending on the electronic recording system and your computer or TV playback audio, which all have their limitations. I think the masking is a good compromise, given the times. I notice that the big soloist parts were sung without masks. I wonder how that was negotiated.
@@AA6E Do you realize how much they indoctrinated, mind controlled and dumbed down the world population when people think MASKS ON SINGERS WHO USE BREATH CONTROL FOR THEIR JOB AND MASKS ON MUSICIANS WHO ARE BEARING THE HEFTY TASK OF PLAYING AND INTERPRETING DIFFICULT MUSIC AND NEED TO BREATH PROPERLY JUST FOR PROPER INTAKE OF OXYGEN SO THEY CAN DO THE DIFFICULT TASK OF READING, INTERPRETING AND PLAYING MUSIC WITH THEIR FULL HEART MIND AND SOUL IS JUST A-OK FINE AND DANDY??? Have they totally removed the minds of human beings?

Human beings get old, things get old...but the Handel Messiah's remains timeless!

I am so happy to see this on you tube while at home alone and with my copy of The Messiah.
Such a wonderful performance that speaks to this moment perfectly.

I had the unforgettable privilege of joining the soprano section for one season, 1985-86.

Thank you for this. Handel was flexible about adapting to the circumstances of a performance, so he would probably have approved.
So perfectly portrays our GODLY indomitable spirit in the face of all obstacles
Spectacular!

Exclaiming that a singer has her nose unmasked. A serious infraction!!
SINGING MESSIAH WITH MASKS ON?! WHAT ON EARTH HAVE WE COME TO? 👎
Performing Messiah with masks in the middle of a pandemic is an act of HOPE and RESILIENCE, and it’s a shame you can’t see that.

agree completely
Jesus was born in a stable and placed in a manger. At a time like this, singing in a barn and making do with what you have seems more than fitting.
@@alysg1873 you cannot sing with a mask - how can professional singers, how can Kent Tritle who has been in this industry for years, not know this??
