Hey Phro! Glad to see Starsector videos :) Quick tip: Your travel drive increases your top speed but lowers your acceleration (And turning). I think that is why you were struggling against the black hole to stay near the research station, the black hole would still pull on you but if your travel drive is off the greater acceleration makes it easier to keep your distance. (As long as you don't get too close :P)
Hi Phros, quick tip for missile weapon groups is to change the fire mode from linked to alternate, this can be done in the weapon group screen. This will allow you to use one weapon for each click of the LMB and if you use the weapon group hotkey it will cycle through the selected weapon from that group. For the combat freighter it has a mobility skill (like plasma jets) so I recommend a support layout using grav beam and ion beam with the optics hull mod. Or you can go with a hit and run armament like 2x phase lance/Beam repeater and sabot + harpoon missiles on the synergy slots, if there are synergy mounts in front you can stick some reapers on them. 80 speed is a bit hard to work with but the plasma jets + omni shields should keep you safe.
Have a glance at the value of blueprints. Sometimes you get blueprints for ships with a value of several hundred thousand. And you are never gonna build the ship, so rather sell, than learn then. Also a a freighter upgrade is not a dumb idea. That tarsus you glanced over would have trippled your storage capacity. Thanks for your vids. Love em
@@Phrosphor Starsector vanilla can be overwhelming. The amounts of ships in modded even more so. It's difficult to know what to keep if you do not decide for a fleet doctrine. But i would say locomotive you can safely sell. If you wanna go wild and enjoy any ships you find, be sure to look at its characteristics. As you noted the Circe you found seemed to have a forward oriented gunplacement. But it is a combat freighter. It has quite strong shields (0.7) but its armour, flux and venting is weak for a cruiser. If you use it in combat use it as a long range support. The side shield covarage is also bad. If flanked it will get wrecked, so have it escorted. Another negative is that its quite exepensive to field. BUT one positive is, you get extra storage for your explorations :) I also love exploring. There are ships and hullmods to improve sensors and make your long range voyages more rewarding. Planets most worthwhile to scan are surrounded by satellites. Build sensors arrays in stable points of systems you explore. Gives extra range for your sensors when exploring. You can salvage the array when you leave the system. There are much to learn about where to find things. Follow other explorer fleets. They travel to systems with loot. Good hunting.
Hearing you talk about your scrumpy cider reminded me of the bottle I got from a farmer the other day. It exploded dramatically, emptying more than half the bottle in my face and all over my table. It's very good tough.
If you zoom in on planets to see whether there’s space junk orbiting them, you can guess at the presence and richness of surface ruins (more stuff = richer ruins). You went past a planet that obviously had ruins of some sort. That sort of world is usually worth surveying because you can explore the ruins for free loot after surveying, and it also increases the value of the survey itself.
Unstable Injector is a great hull mod for ships you don’t want in a fight. It makes them run away faster at the downside of reducing their weapon range. Since you usually only put PD on that sort of ship though, it’s basically all upside. (It’s also good for pursuit ships or ships you want to get right up close to enemies, fast that want to be faster, but they will then be outranged so for combat ships it’s a definite trade off)
The fuel range overlay does take drive anomaly into account! It’s not perfect because it assumes you’re only travelling in a straight line without any stop offs, but if it says you can go there and back it’ll be correct.
Hey Phrosphor, thanks for reminding me starsector existed. Just as a tip I saw, you should use the sensor scan near objects in realspace to get hyperspace telemetry, unlocks some fuel saving while traveling. You can see it in the exploration tab in the intel screen
There’s a step between mothball and not - if you set the ships not to be repaired, they’ll stay on low CR and you won’t have to pay to repair them. This still charges you the maintenance cost and crew to maintain them but lets you benefit from their cargo capacity. On such low CR they’ll still take damage if you emergency burn or deploy them in a fight though.
@20:20 you do not need to put them on separate weapon groups; if you go into the weapon groups and tick the box that alternating it will only shoot one missile per click of the mouse.
@@Phrosphor Hold the left click, and you will fly towards it constantly, like in a system. If you want to go back to auto pilot press T to click the buttons on the right
I wouldn't risk handing the data banks in, you can just sell them on the black market, try to sell them to the independents as they don't seem to care as much about black market trading with your transponder on.

Great advice on the build and thank you for reminding me about alt fire!

Noted!

And then he finds the locomotive 😆
I will keep an eye out for ones we can sell and never use!

Phros casually traversing the event horizon of a black hole 😂
Flirting with infinity. At least do it with sustained burn off so you get -some- control!
Wheeeeeeeeee!
HES BACK! Really enjoying this series
Sorry for the delay!

Scrumpy is the best, haven't had it for years. Hard to track down in Australia.
Hm, filtering the yeast out and deactivating them is always the hard part of home brewing, isn't it?

I thought it was mostly a meme hull mod for specific frigates swarm builds, I'll look at fitting it on my support ships

I assumed it didn't! This is huge!

I've had this explained to me on discord and I feel so stupid for missing it. Thank you!

Didn't know this was anything either! Thank you for all the great advice.
Cullen, Talos and Callahan are some cool names i think would fit
Added them to the list. I fell in the sea at a place called Cullen once - 3 times in one day!
Getting carriers spitting out fighters with various names of creatures could be a fun future goal with fighters like the Skinwalker and Wraith drones
my love of trains simply wants to see the locomotive
I guess we are (eventually) gonna build a death train.
Hell, it's bout time!
Sorry to keep you waiting
19:57 you can also set them to alternate firing, so you only fire one with one click
Must make sure I do this for the next session.
BTW the engineer skill tree has a skill that removes does. Also buy them off on small ships
That tree doesn't really exist anymore thanks to one of the mods I'm running but I might be able to find it on an officer.

I have had a few people remind me! Thank you! I'll make sure to do it!

You can left click on the galaxy map to avoid storms
You can What?!? How does this work?

You can emergency burn drive safely through blackholes

The error from the databanks seems to suggest it requires a commission, or perhaps an active player faction, to do what it’s trying to do
I've had a few people say I will need them later once I have my own colony so I'll hold them for now.
Use the research banks in a Research building on a planet you own. You need them. Dont sell em
