You have missed the rain which falls on Tamil Nadu. It was a deal by British and Tambrams since they moved to Madras to make it a presidency that they signed this deal. Then they allowed only Mandya to use whatever is now published because they wanted Tamilians to work for them in KGS gold mines. why do you compare rainwater to himalayas and niagara. TN has a huge niligiri base and less arid than Karnataka. Its not even rain-deficit state. If they store more rain its enough. Recent floods have proved it. Remember Veerappan? I am not even touching on British Soldiers, Madras devadasi act and Jayalalitha from Mandya. People Google for Alibon Banerji raw deal and find for youselves why Lutyens Britain and TamilNadu will have to pay 100 years compensation to Karnataka for restricting irrigation in its own land for British slavery.

I don't know what the complaints are about from the Tamil Nadu side to be honest. Despite all this, Karnataka still releases water and has always obeyed SC orders even if it feels it is illogical sometimes. But TN on the other has even threatened to leave the country and sometimes has even compared itself to struggles by some Kashmiri separatists who it feels are being mistreated on par with TN!
TN is demanding 17 TMC feet of water out of 21 left in KRS for their 3rd crop with another rainfall impending on the TN side. Supreme Court orders Karnataka to release 15 TMC and also advises it to "live and let live" despite the Karnataka farmers not having been able to harvest their first crop let alone the third.
When Karnataka asked for 7 TMC ft of water from Goa, Mahadayi river, it was denied, saying it is needed to maintain the "ecological balance" in Goa. Northern Karnataka farmers are severely affected by this, but since northern Karnataka drought is almost an ever-present and so is easily ignored. Their situation is even worse than the farmers who depend on the Cauvery .
SC orders are all related to who holds the most power and where.
TN has 39 MP seats despite it being a smaller state about 3/4th the size of Karnataka which is represented by only 28 MPs and TN is always a decider when it comes who is going to come to power in the center. It is a trump card that all central governments want to hold for future elections.
Goa is the country's ruling party's pet state. Goa's elected govt is BJP and their most recent CM is now the country's Defense Minister. It may not seem much, but it holds a tremendous amount of clout in the center. Even the courts will not go against this state since doing so would be going the center and we all know how powerful the current central govt is. Going against them would simply be labeled anti-national and even they would have to face the center's music.

Even people from TN are to be blamed aswell. 10 to 15 years ago Thamaraparani was such a beautiful river full of sand. Now all the sand are sucked up and sold by Mafias only stones remain.U cant even go near water it will literally hurt ur heel due to sharp stones. I could see many people taking bath using soap in Ambasamudram. Second is COOVAM was a river now its destroyed and become a drainage. somany water tank used to be there to supply water near Chennai. Now its encroached. It would have supplied as there was excess rains in December .We need people like Piyush Manush. Coming to Karnataka Bellandur lake, Varthur lake is completely destroyed and Ulsoor lake is poisoned and many fish had died. Bus stand of Bangalore is on a Water tank. Both the states have sold the lands to land mafias.
Human beings have destroyed the nature to the core.
When Modi came to power, both Congress Govts in MP & Maharashtra denied water. Within 5 years he built numerous canals & check-dams interlinking entire Gujarat. Today Gujarat is freely giving water to both states + Rajasthan. We need such leader in TN/KA.
There's No Vision on Water Conservation or interlinking Rivers in TN/KA. Both States are equally responsible for this mess.

Bro, I'm from Bangalore... We don't have proper rain this year... I visited KRS dam recently, honestly we don't have sufficient water, there is always water flowed to Tamil nadu in regular basis... But now since at karnataka have received less rain fall and I have very less water stored at KRS DAM.. If we give extra water as requested by Tamil nadu govt irrigation. Then we at Mysour and Bangalore will not have water in drinking... If we had received good rainfall we would have surely provided water as per the court order.

brother, let me clear certain things... water is natural source and it's not pertaining to someone, if u have good monsoon u store water and when the dam water is about to reach its maximum capacity, u are releasing the water and all our crops getting spoiled, both states needs water, but let me clear certain things, in our TN even our chief minister is not a tamilian or opposite party is not from tamil community, do u think this can happen in any state??? but inspite of everything we are electing them, there are some people in every state they accuse every other state people, we are depleting our resources to give electicity for u,its an lignite which is non renewable, u can get water as soon as the rain comes and it's an renewable source, ok here In TN central government started nuclear reactor, do u know every state opposed becaz implementing nuclear reactor is like sitting on atom bomb, if anything happens we are the one who is going to suffer, but inspite of everything we are providing electriciy, i am not fighting with u, u are my brother and we are indians, look at the losses we had and just check abou yours, how much we suffered.. if we stop electricity how do u feel?? so here losses are more...try to understand this...

Why we should support Karnataka Bundh..
We are all Indians first, I want to write this note with facts and reality than sentiment.
Problem with Kaveri issue is, lack of facts, more of emotion and opinion. Water sharing is a technical process which have to be carry out by Ecologist and Irrigation experts not by Tamil, Kannada fundamentalists or politicians.
Let’s look at the facts and figures:
The length of Kaveri River is 800 kilometer, 320 Km in Karnataka and the remaining 480 km in Tamil Nadu (and Kerala border). Tamil Nadu state constructed 3 dams (Mettur, Bhavani Sagar and Amaravathi) which has total capacity of 136 TMC of water. There are 3 dams constructed by Karnataka (KRS, Kabini and Harangi) which has total capacity of 104 TMC of water.
Karnataka requires 81 TMC of water to cater drinking water requirements and water for farming. However the total water currently available in all the 3 dams is only 56 TMC, out of which 22 TMC water is a dead water (below the dam gates). This statistics highlights that Karnataka has scarcity of 47 TMC of water.
On the contrary Tamil Nadu claims for 20 TMC of water so that the state is able to satisfy the demands of its farmers for growing commercial crops in March 2017.
Tamil Nadu’s irrigated lands had grown over the last 3-5 decades from an area of 1,440,000 acres to 2,580,000 acres, there are 1,140,000 forest land has been converted to farming land. While Karnataka’s irrigated area stood at 680,000 acres, no changes to the irrigated lands. Tamil Nadu demanding the additional share of the water to sustain its additional agricultural activity.
With 90% of the monsoon season over and little or no further rainfall expected, Karnataka is facing an serious shortage of water to drink also. At this moment Tamil Nadu Government is demanding for 20 TMC of water which they will be utilizing for the summer commercial crop.
The approach of Tamil Nadu has disappointed the Karnataka people and which is the reason of Bundh called on this Friday… It’s up to all of us whether to support or not!!!

Kerala has banned sand they are building using M sand for quite some time now and they are structurally sound with no noticeable change to normal sand buildings. The curse of Tamil Nadu is the people have virtually given up on fighting corruption at any level. They are not even questioning councilors let alone MLA and then ministers.
Another curse is Cinema, the youth of this state will not know who won the noble prize for chemistry but will definitely know which couple has the right chemistry in cinema. They are projected as gods and these people spend their hard earned money and more importantly time behind these cults. While they should be spending time on their own careers
Blood boils every time I see a drinking scene in a movie, I feel helpless while the youth of the country are made to believe that its hip to be a drunkard and its the only way to socialise. Needs a strong grass root political movement by already successful people from various walks off life. I emphasize successful because only then can you see politics as a service or you will see it as a business. Which is the current scenario. Politics is not a career opportunity.

Every story has 2 sides. Think from our perspective. When you don't have water to drink people tend to protest. You can see that the whole of karnataka is lending their support to mandya region not because of ego, it's because the whole district will dry up without this river. Talking in your point of view, even we asked for a portion of water from goa which the Sc deprived us from. If you still think you guys deserve that water what people are not getting to drink then we got nothing to say for that. For the record the same supreme court stopped your jalli kattu.

Yes we understand. However, you are concerned about 1 district, we are talking about whole of TN. Like said in this video, river is not about drinking water, it is about ecosystem around it as rightly put in this video. Due to lack of water there is illegal sand mafia, erosion of sand, the river becomes unpredictable, due to abandoned agriculture, the lands are converted to plots. My family was exporting plaintain to kerala, it has been 8 yrs since we stopped plantation. Of course, instead of depending on you people for water, we should find ways for self sustenance with available methods. When politicians and executives of TN cannot provide this, i guess time for common man to start digging out lakes and ponds!
When there is a drought u stop the water but when there is a flood why ur leaving the water ...If u want to keep Kaveri for urself then don't leave water even when there is flood

Watch this video carefully. Kaveri tribunal was formed to decide how water should be shared during the time of water crisis and we had an agreement. We only want our KA brothers to adhere to the agreement.

Hi Rahul, Karnataka has nearly 10 rivers in it 4 rivers are major ones. Unfortunately TN is not blessed with any rivers due to several geographical reasons. This makes TN to completely depend on Karnataka for Cauvery and Kerela. Water is a natural resource, and it should be shared with other states in India too! TN provides electricity to Karnataka, Similarly TN have no rights to stop electricity to Karnataka either. Basically both the states must join together and sort this issue! No point blaming each other.

Rahul, your post is incorrect. Kaveri and tributeries are impounded in KA for agricultural purposes mainly. (Of course, my heart understsnds it. Whether I Am a Kannadiga or a Tamil, if I live next to the river, I would want to impound it and get my farm irrigated). But as cultured people, we have to know that the downstream people have a right for that water. Firstly, we know that Kaveri was flooding the delta and people in delta region know that the life giver that Kaveri becomes a destroyer as well. Secondly, anyone who impounds water in a lower district in Karnataka itself may one day find out that they are cooked because someone in an upstream district has impounded that very same water. Obviously, some arbitrary understanding must be agreed for sharing the waters and adhered to.
I think that the current impasse may lead to calls for sessation by TN from India saying that the centre is impotent. Any wife who finds that her husband is impotent has a right to divorce him. The political parties in TN and people in my opinion are currently busy enriching themselves but it can happen in the future.
This in no way be offensive to my Kannadiga Dravidian brothers. It just happens to be an unavoidable survival problems between two brothers and sisters.

@putchutney Looks like u don't really know much before talking about something...there has been a conflict b/w nations over the Neil river as well, there has been conflicts over the Teesta river b/w W Bengal and Bangladesh! And there have been desputes over the Indus as well which flows b/w india and pakistan!! ... "WHERE THERE'S A RIVER THERE'S A CONFLICT OVER IT!!And you say 400+ lakes and ponds around Cauvery? Which era do you live in? hardly any of those lakes and ponds exist today, if any of them do they're probably just empty pits with mud. its not that Karnataka doesn't want to share the river(Karnataka has been sharing the river for all along without an issue; yes there might have been some deputes but they did share) there is no water to even drink in the north Karnataka at the moment.. the river isn't flowing well which is why the dam is used to reserve the water. and while TN already has sufficient lets say not too much but some water to water their crops north Karnataka which solely depends on cauvery water barely even has water to drink forget the crops(which is why there have been suicide cases over the years ;crop failure due to shortage of water!!) .. the court has ordered to release 15,000 cusecs of water EVERY DAY. with the reservoir hardly holding any how is Karnataka supposed to survive with such crazy amounts of water being released to TN which already has enough water? the real requirement of water as of now is in north Karnataka. it would be very grateful of the TN people if they understood the situation. (just because your bottle of water is 1/3rd empty its cruel to take away the only 1/3rd amount of water left in another person's bottle just so u can fill yours completely)

We are all Indians first, I want to write this note with facts and reality than sentiment.
Problem with Kaveri issue is, lack of facts, more of emotion and opinion. Water sharing is a technical process which have to be carry out by Ecologist and Irrigation experts not by Tamil, Kannada fundamentalists or politicians.
Let’s look at the facts and figures:
The length of Kaveri River is 800 kilometer, 320 Km in Karnataka and the remaining 480 km in Tamil Nadu (and Kerala border). Tamil Nadu state constructed 3 dams (Mettur, Bhavani Sagar and Amaravathi) which has total capacity of 136 TMC of water. There are 3 dams constructed by Karnataka (KRS, Kabini and Harangi) which has total capacity of 104 TMC of water.
Karnataka requires 81 TMC of water to cater drinking water requirements and water for farming. However the total water currently available in all the 3 dams is only 56 TMC, out of which 22 TMC water is a dead water (below the dam gates). This statistics highlights that Karnataka has scarcity of 47 TMC of water.
On the contrary Tamil Nadu claims for 20 TMC of water so that the state is able to satisfy the demands of its farmers for growing commercial crops in March 2017.
Tamil Nadu’s irrigated lands had grown over the last 3-5 decades from an area of 1,440,000 acres to 2,580,000 acres, there are 1,140,000 forest land has been converted to farming land. While Karnataka’s irrigated area stood at 680,000 acres, no changes to the irrigated lands. Tamil Nadu demanding the additional share of the water to sustain its additional agricultural activity.
With 90% of the monsoon season over and little or no further rainfall expected, Karnataka is facing an serious shortage of water to drink also. At this moment Tamil Nadu Government is demanding for 20 TMC of water which they will be utilizing for the summer commercial crop.
For that purpose u have mettur dam through which 136 plusTMC's of water is getting wasted and going into the sea but only for vote bank jaya nd karunanidhi is fighting
And even now she s not asking for drinking for cultivating samba crops tell me one thing u have one glass of water will u feed it to u r family or will u give it to neighbour for watering der plants

Yep. We have given up on our system. That is the whole problem right now. We want solutions, we would start doing something if we have the means to change things. But unfortunately, the only legal way is through the system, and we don't trust it. So, we are stuck in a cycle of lamenting how bad the system is and complaining that someone has to change it
