If we could only work on a perfectly clean bike in a super nice shop, oh well back to my old and crusty bike in my garage working next to the mini van.
Yeah, the packing doesn't just slide in like a well lubed... Ahem!! Anyway...u have to sorta beat it in. If yours slides in nicely, you definitely didn't use enough material.
Everything was ok in this video except wrapping and packing it tightly . Insulation works best when it is not compressed ! I know l was a Union insulator for years ! Wrap it around the stinger without compressing it too much. The exhaust needs to easily flow through the holes in the stinger into the insulation. If the holes are covered by tightly compressed insulation, flow is very minimal and your bike will be very loud ! Guaranteed
@Raymond Siewert you might of been a union insulator but you're not a mechanic. also whats a stinger? the piece he wraps is called a baffle, and its wrapped tightly because just about every instruction manual or video even on FMF's own youtube channel tells you to wrap it tightly. if you didn't notice the original factory packing he removed was wrapped tightly too.
So you guys aren’t touching the turbincore part in the front? I’ve seen some that say drill through the rivets, repack, re-rivet and others that say to just ignore that area.
It depends. I repacked the long section and left alone the turbine core. My rear section is leaking because that packing was so gummed up and oily. I just don’t want to drill and rivet. Idk who designs an exhaust like that. Blows my mind FMF is the standard when the quality isn’t all that impressive

My bike is leaking unburnt oil from where the exhaust meets the silencer above the swingarm. What do you put in there? Just silicone, or do you put o rings in there? If so what o rings would i look for? What would they be called? Thanks
There should be on the bike already a rubber exhaust joint. We've found out that by using a little high temp silicone helps seal up the connection from the head pipe and silencer. If you do not have the stock rubber exhaust joint you can always buy one under our OEM Parts Schematic under the EXHAUST assembly. Thanks www.rockymountainatvmc.com/oem
Rocky Mountain ATV MC ya, the exhaust joint is missing. I found them online. I'm having a hard time justifying paying 30 dollars for one when i can probably make one out of an old radiator hose and a clamp.
You could try that. I don't think you'd be out much building that. Could even simply use zip ties vs clamps? One thing that i've noticed with the rubber OEM Exhaust Joint is that it has a tailored fit. What i mean by that is, one side is a little bigger in diameter and the other, smaller. Creating a snug fit. Let us know how it works, hope this helps!
Rocky Mountain ATV MC ya, i noticed that in the pictures. I think it will be mostly fine with some silicone and any snug rubber around it. Good idea with the zip ties. I'll let you know. Thanks.

I kept whittling it down until I was to about 1.1 wraps. even then, because my canister is round the slight bulge on one side made it super difficult to line of the mesh cylinder. there won't be a next time. You have to buy rubber fittings to seal the ends and pump about 30psi of air into it and heat up the dented spot. The air pressure will pop the dent out when it is hot enough.
The flammable tape will release all grip when heated. It will not burn inside the fiberglass against the aluminum. In a year or so, it will come out like nasty oily paper. The reason for using the tape is because it releases and lets the packing expand and work better to muffle the sound.
