ZBB's guitarist, Clay Cook, helped write this song (NEON) with John Mayer, back in the late 90's, when they played together in a duet called the the Lo-Fi Masters in Atlanta. That's the connection here. Still brilliant they can work together.
They fell out for a little while when John blew up. Clay wrote a song call Stand Back about it years ago. If you are particularly good at the internet you might be able to find it online. There was actually a studio version and a live version back in the day. They made up a few years later, and I was privileged enough to get to be at Clays birthday party at Eddie's Attic in ATL for the secret concert that John attended and got on stage with Clay for the first time in years at. It was genuinely magic. I still prefer Clays versions of some of their songs they wrote together, like Man on the Side, for instance. It's wild that that much talent was shared between 2 people. They are both world class song writers, guitar players (Clay can rip several instruments actually), and producers. Both guys ended up with the jobs/lives they wanted, so I'm happy for them both.
I honestly can't find the words to say just how much I love both the guitar and the fiddle solo in this performance. They're both legitimately some of the absolute best of their kind I've ever heard.
I know mann.. Im a huge fan of his music. I've watched almost every single vid of him.. His old solos are badass too. but here you can see that he's just soooo controlled while playing this AMAZING solo. The thing is, every single solo is different too. He's my inspiration, and I think he's yours too. as a musician.
Seriously... how good is john going to get??? I'm seeing all his 2012 performances and he's just doing all the solo's with ease and passion. I really wanna see what he has in store for us at his future shows. He's getting too good.
actually both songs are in the same tone, Cm but i don't remember listening to "All along the watch tower" with this rhythm :/ tell me if there's a version of that song with this rhythm
This song is OK better the way John wrote it! John played a badass solo but the band pretty much made it sound like Dave Matthews Version of All Along The Watch Tower
He'll definately bring his old stye back. He just wanted to take a break from that and calm his o=style of music down a bit. His last albumn still kicked ass though!
@alealejandro9696 dude dont dare compare born and raised to continuum.i expected john to improvise song that are on the born and raise record. nothing like continuum....and continuum is out of this world.
And what's wrong with the Dave Matthews Band? I mean All Along the Watch Tower has been covered by so many people in so many different Genres, Its the song that keeps on giving
who woulda thunk they'd finally release the official audio recording of this in 2023? glad they did! what an amazing performance.
When the best part of a show involving Zac Brown & John Mayer is a violin solo, you're a darn fine violinist
it was 80% total trash and 20% AWESOME

Man, once this man feels the grove he just dont stop on that guitar
all along the Neon watchtower
This is and the Live in LA performance of neon are probably my favorites now having seen this. That was KILLER
WOW ZAC BROWN REALLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB MAKING JOHN MAYERS SONG NEON AN UP TEMPO BEAT. WOW, LOVE THIS SO MUCH
My two favorites.. Someone pinch me I'm dreaming
Them All Along the Watchtower vibes, though.
So much talent on stage, I would've exploded had I been there
great to see john being the guitarist for his own song
Would love to see these two on CMT Crossroads!!

This was awesome. Such a cool groove, it reminds me of Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the watch tower.
Absolutely, that was my first thought
One of the best JM jams I have ever heard!
How did that Violin not catch on FIRE during that solo?
Love the Stevie Wonder intro. This was very interesting. I like..
this solo is just fucking awesome. i want the old John back.and i kinda feel im getting him
never heard a violin player shred it up like that, definitely a fan. and yeah mayer is an absolute boss
Heck yeah.. The world needs so much more of this! : )
I was there for John and this performance and it did not disappoint
What a great version!
that violinist played a guitar solo on his violin, amazing
I fucking love John mayer
The only word I have for John’s solo is “FUCK” ,seriously the dude is an absolute fucking legend
Seriously... how good is john going to get??? I'm seeing all his 2012 performances and he's just doing all the solo's with ease and passion. I really wanna see what he has in store for us at his future shows. He's getting too good.
He’s gotten pretty amazing by now
Part of his solo is all along the watchtower
if Hendrix made it to his 50's and he was sober it would probably sound a little like this.
John has always been the shit. Watch his old solos...he was more into doing experimental things but, still amazing.
This video reminds me of when John sat in on Maroon 5's - This Love. The difference being that here it's one of his own songs. KILLER!
i wish i could have seen this!
wunderschön auch auch auch :)
This song is from his first CD ever. It's over 12 years old.
20 now
i understand why zac is playing a simplified version of this song.... this song was hard as fuck for me to play at first :/
i would shit myself if i saw both of them play. they are the only two people i listen to!!!
Someone need to make a lesson of this solo and put it on youtube
Hearing Asturias was the last thing I was expecting.
The funny thing is John's version so much better!
I stopped listening to him for about a week, wont ever do that again :D
this is wayyyy SRV. I love it.
What a dude
lol the look on his face at 11:18 is like "I warned yall im the shit!"
Wow.
Epic
this had to have been incredible live. Jealous
How can anybody hit dislike button!?
actually both songs are in the same tone, Cm but i don't remember listening to "All along the watch tower" with this rhythm :/ tell me if there's a version of that song with this rhythm
It's always been there, mainly off the record.
This song is OK better the way John wrote it! John played a badass solo but the band pretty much made it sound like Dave Matthews Version of All Along The Watch Tower
5:35 srv esque
@tristanfabriani
i believe i owe you a beer my good man
holy fuck! 2 of the best out there
your sooo right!!! hes had alot of time to play guitar since his voice is screwed upp
I wonder if he just improvised that solo or he had it prepared
He'll definately bring his old stye back. He just wanted to take a break from that and calm his o=style of music down a bit. His last albumn still kicked ass though!
John got soo much more creative.
Anyone know what cords zac is playing??
@alealejandro9696 dude dont dare compare born and raised to continuum.i expected john to improvise song that are on the born and raise record. nothing like continuum....and continuum is out of this world.
ok yeah mayer killed it, but the violinist??? purely amazing. not to mention mr. brown went pretty hard as well
Is mayer not singing cuz his throat surgery or whatever it was?
what i meant was hes just being the guitarist
8:29
02:55!
is there an mp3 for this?
i was thinking that it's a pitty that John doesn't sing. But then again it's should've been John mayer ft ZBB instead of the inverse...
hahahaha or mayer versus every country artist
he plays the guitar on all of his own songs...
And what's wrong with the Dave Matthews Band? I mean All Along the Watch Tower has been covered by so many people in so many different Genres, Its the song that keeps on giving
devillad666 the song that dmb covered from bob dylan?? 🤔
His vocal chords were probably still recovering.
man he wears that guitar on his chin
He doesn't even need to sing
I must say, i'm glad the mullets gone
Where can I buy this song?
I guess..
