I made a beat w/that Roots (Quincy Jones) album this week, too! I was bumpin' some Grover Washington, as well, but a different album. Those ones he had on KUDU are golden line ups of musicians. I hooked up my turntable after watching a video you made a couple months ago and have been enjoying listening to records I haven't heard in a long time. Thanks for making videos of stuff that inspires you. It helps producers to see your techniques but, in general, I think it helps people to see somebody doing what makes them happy. That inspires other people to follow their passions whatever they may be.

I love quincy jones stuff especially compositions theres going to be so much going on... and grover is a monster like you said especially on kudu, if i see a kudu album i grab it right away no hesitation... eberytime i go through old albums i always find something i never samples before or im in a different mood and i oick up a sample... i have over five thousand records so every so many years ill go back through an old pile....
It feels a little like catching up with an old friend when you throw on that record you haven't played in a minute! It's always either "I can't believe I didn't know that was there!", or "I forgot I was going to use that." for me. Occasionally its "I used that part, but I bet I could make it sound better I didn't mix it right." @@dubsbangermusic
Man this is amazing. You make putting those drums together so easy. Super perfect timing when you play your pattern in. I love adding vinyl crackle too. Apollo Brown does that a lot on his beats. Really works well.
this is mainly why i changed my metronome and use double time so the metronome acts as the hi hats and im able to place my drums with timing off and give them a natural groovy feeling...
Ah, yeah this is another great beat! Question though - do you ever have issues sampling what you sample, since I assume you’re not clearing all these? Any YT copyright strikes? I still just don’t get how any of that works these days.
dont play longer than ten seconds of the original sample...cut it if you want to showcase the sample longer... but once you sample it as long as its chopped it you can upload it... theres other videos explaining clearing samples and who does that...
