As with Warband, I love the companion system in this game, but I kinda wish they would lean more into the racial specialisation of them rather than have the Aserai be number 1 at most things. It 100% should be an Aserai companion who's initially the best at healing, but I would argue it should be the Imperial scholar who's the best engineer (Because really, Mongol engineers better than Byzantine? What?). Then equally split the best scout skill between the Khuzait, Battanian, and Sturgian, but have their secondary skills match how those people fight; Scout horse archer, scout 2H and bow, scout 1h and throwing. Then I'd split the best stewards equally between Vlandia and the Empire, and have their secondary skills again match their kingdom's fighting preference too.
I was thinking the same. More choices mean more fun. Funny fact is that Taleworlds Studio is from Turkey and Aserai culture is their representation in the game. Maybe a little flexing here 😀
Unequip the bow from the companion so he cant shoot and make him captain of an archer group. Reduce the group to just a few guys and place the group near a ballista or catapult when you defend. So when the battle starts hes the only guy that cant shoot himself. He will use a siege engine and with a bit if luck he will kill like 50 guys per siege. Thats how i do it. And it works. Also works for yourself. You spawn on a tower riding your mount 🙃
This is my first time playing, I'm on console... After two weekends of playing I'm starting to realize this is going to be a very long game... I started as sturgia. I got my first kingdom, by luck I think. One of the cities was going to be taken, so I decided to join them to help fight. We won with only 45 troops left, and after they decided to vote to give me the castle 🥰 go me.
The best companions are family members. You just need to take a lot of time building them up and making marriages happen. Most companions might have good focus allotment, but terrible stat allotment.
My biggest problem was the companion limited capped by clan levels. You can't properly run a kingdom with so few companions to fill governor and party roles. Meanwhile waiting for my kin to grow up so they xna be assigned to these roles is taking real hours of gameplay, i cant help but feel hamstrung by the clan level cap. I wish they didn't need to cap it based on clan level and just hiked up prices or made companion personality clashes more impactful. Until it gets addressed I'm using the mod that lets you set the new cap, but I wish these issues could be corrected in the vanilla experience.
Fun fact, recipes on the internet have a bunch of useless personal information because you need a certain number of words to copyright a recipe. So they add useless information to hit the word minimum. Almost like a school assignment
Love The Ill-Starred companion. Comes with high endurance and decent smithing. Can be leveled up to 275+ smithing and able to creat legendary weapons (when endurance reach 7 with smithing 5). Also great melee fighter! With high endurance can use both horse and on foot.
i get a battainian surgeon in all of my playthroughs, because their culture is the only one without the merciful trait. I hate to have them complain every time i strategically want to raid villages to weaken the opponent's economy, or lure his troops to me to defend their village.
The only things about the vlandian scout is (1) he's pretty old starting in his 40s, so if you get him at the start, he has a decent chance to die in the midgame, and (2) he has so many skills already that he can't grow so fast--he's kinda locked in with what he has. So some cons.
Something i feel is missing in this guide is the attention to their level as it heavily influences growth potential. For instance at 30:05 Dispossessed and horsethief have very similar stats, however dispossessed is one level lower, meaning you will have more focus and attribute points to allocate to relevant locations instead of them having been 'wasted' on irrelevant things. Especially in this situation where Dispossessed is about to reach lvl 16 and getting an attribute point. Now they both have 130 riding but if they have let's say 4 AP in endurance both, after the next level you can make it 5 AP in endurance for Dispossessed and their riding skill will very quickly get higher than the Horsethief one. I generally prefer low level companions so i can develop them myself. Regarding governors, that could be an entire video on its own as there are so many possibilities: governors that focus on loyalty, or prosperity, security and so on. I personally think that governors focussing on garrison are the most op. They can make both infantry and archers 55% cheaper in wage costs and cavalry even up to 75%. With the empire culture you get an additional 20% so cavalry in their garrison would only cost you 5% of the normal wages. You can just pump a city garrison full of elite cataphracts or Khans Guard and it barely costs you anything. Besides big garrisons (either directly or indirectly) lead to higher prosperity, security and loyalty anyway. Another benefit is that they need high combat stats like 1H, 2H, crossbow, polearm and riding, which are easy to train and make them useful captains or even partyleaders until you conquer a city they can govern. That being said, you don't necessarily need companions for that when playing campaign. Your brother, your wife/husband and sister in law can be 3 perfect governors if you select and develop them right.
Guys you can re-Spec ANY companion within the game.. Including yourself! It's in the arena, speak to tournament master and select options to fix "bad habits" or whatever they say and you can at any time reset YOUR skills AND companions..! Great video BTW thanks bro!
Yep... And it cost more and more as the game progresses. If i have the money, I quickly go and switch their perks. Their focus and stats cannot be changed tho. So... Family members are still better.
It appears they patched the encyclopedia because I only see 4 companions and the rest are all question marks. So no more hunting down those awesome companions.
@@LordInter yeah I don’t mind that I mostly use fighting mercenaries for money and trade from aserai vlandian and western empire territories so it’s not that bad I don’t do workshops or caravans until way later
I have observed in my recent campaign that the trade skill of my caravan leaders hardly ever seems to influence the amount of profit they make, also caravan leaders with higher scouting don't get caught less by the enemy, at least not reliably. It is ultimately down to luck how good a caravan works out. I tend to get as many companions as I can and send them all out with their caravans. I also send out my kids and younger siblings as soon as they can ride and use a bow. Builds character, lol. When you have 9 or 10 caravans going that's when the money really starts coming in.
I learned that if you hire a companion who just spawned into the game, you get to set ALL of his/her attributes and focus points, while their starting lvl remains unchanged. You can see an example of this when you do the Family Feud quest. The guy that's added to your party for the duration of the mission will have all his points unset if you check as he spawns in. It's not something to aim for, but you can get lucky, so always check your companion stats immediately after hiring! Als thanks for the great Bannerlord content!
really wish they added variety to the companions, in the sense that they randomize their culture a bit for example the Swordsman not always be Aserai and, sometimes he can be Vlandian or Battanian just to be different on every playthrough. And the companions we have as governors or with a trading caravan should not count twords the limit...
The best caravan leaders are the ones with good scouting, not trading. If they don´t have some decent scouting they keep always being easily captured, making you lost the money invested to create the caravans. With good scouting, they can always upgrade their trade skills while they lead the caravans without being easily captured by enemies or bandits.
There is also marriage. If you are playing the campaign ,a spouse for you and your brother is essentially 2 more companions and some of them are very good!
There was a train of thought a couple of patches ago where the best caravan companion would have scout and riding. It was very important to be able to get away from bandits or enemy armies while trading would grow naturaly. Has that changes somehow?
Wanna cheese the medicine perk simple. Get the largest party of cheap troops you can. Sit in a city with no food and watch them starve. Before the all die buy food let them heal. Rinse repeat.
I made a Khuzait Outcast my trader. Starts with little to no trade skill. He has never once been successfully ambushed during my campaign. He starts with good leadership, tactics and weapons and riding. The logic is that in the beginning you don't need your traders to be super profitable, you just need them to survive, so your not spending the 15k gold to put them back on the road. The trade skill will eventually get there. I stacked him with some good weapons and armor I got in some arenas and as I said. He has never been successfully ambushed once, through multiple wars and decades of campaign time. His trade is now 240.
Oh, I think it's nice to have a backup healer, or several, so your tip of working towards future governors is great for that too. And might be nice to have family members as solid governors.
Ok, I really liked the video but am I missing something? how do I get the spreadsheet on the video? Sorry 68 years old and not a computer guru with downloading someone else's spreadsheets or seeing a link to one for this video

They very well could have changed this, but did you check if the “better” characters were simply older? It seems like the list isn’t entirely accurate anymore, but generally is still the same character placement - just not the same stats. However what I’m finding is that those top guys are like 41 years old, while you can get someone who’s a little lower all around, but they’re like 22. With how easy it is to level most of their stats, youth is a huge advantage if you know how to build them, it just takes time. It seems like basically right now though, all characters are the same, they just have their own class and get different points into those skills based on how old they are.
Ideas are great, I am in my first play through 25 hours in and I think all my characters are the worse. I just want each companion and myself to be great at everything.
32:13 I had a khuzait ragged called Targai The ragged he was the best companion I ever had and he became archon of the targai clan in the united eagle empire my characters son who I played when my original died married his daughter
This would be another example of... Do as I say, not as I do. Pour this into a ramaken, place into the oven at 350 for 2 hours and enjoy with your roommate as this is another addition to the clean plate club ;)
I had a surgeon that I dismissed so I could up the skill myself. The game said she disappeared under “mysterious circumstances”. It made it sound like I ended her on the road and disposed of the evidence in a shadowy grove. I assure you all that wasn’t the case. lol
i dont know if its bug or not but some of the hero in this video dont have same states as mine for exmaple aseri scholar in my game have only 50 medicine
My horsed companions get placed with the infantry in battles, kinda annoying. In older version I could assign them a combat group from the Party-screen, how does this work in version 1.0 ?
My aserai waste character only had bow and athletics that matched this. His 2 handed was 3 and his scout was 76. He was lvl 15. Iv noticed other variations as well from the list.
I hate what they did to companions. Having named companions each with their own personality and story added so much charm to warband. This is just yet another casualty.
That is when named companions like in Warband get executed and you are left with nothing, you're gonna wish you had generated companions here. I don't think people really cared about the individual personality, they are just stat bots you send to do stuff.
Thanks for the guides mate, I think they may be a little out of date because of updates. Wastes, Hills and some others were on there when I searched. I could also be because I’m playing on console. None the less they are a great help for a deep game.👍
How do you assign companions to like horse, missile and infantry positions like it is for the older versions of the game. There used to be a shield in the party menu from what I understand you can clik onto and assign them a tier that put them in one of those brackets but was apparently removed in one of the updates which I don't understand why developers would do that.
personally i find tracker to be the absolute best horse archer captain because the best horse archers being the khan's guard use bow and polearm, and hawk has 0 in polearm whereas tracker mya have slightly lower bow/riding but he also has high polearm
If you playing the campaing I suggest putting your brothers as governors. Because you can marry them and keep their wives in their cities and keeping making babies, increasing your clan size
Very detailed and helpful video but you might consider recording at a higher resolution. Most of this is somewhat blurred and makes watching very difficult.
Did they recently change the way scouting levels up? I'm on my first playthrough and I have level 86 scouting after the first year in the game. I do not follow tracks or parties. It seems to just level up from wandering the campaign map. It actually seems to level up too fast imo.
Companion system is alright, and there are aspects I like, but my issue is all NPCs lack interest anymore. War band didn't have the graphics, the size, or a lot of what bannerlord has done right. However. In what they lacked with that stuff, they made up for in genuinely interesting dialogue dynamics. Characters with personality, with political interests, changing opinions, various tasks. They all had so much more to say, your companions would get into squabbles, over time stranger companions would feel like close friends, new additions would bring new situations to the group, either being kicked or leaving on their own due to your decisions.
I thought their personslity clashes got annoying over time. Especially after I paid for their service and they decide to leave because they feel angry.
What’s funny/sucks is that there is no unique companions same in Warband. All of them are just faceless, soulless, randomly generated dolls. No Deshavi and Artimenner - no party.
Spartacus, how do you think the caracter trades can influence in the late game? Do they even matter? Besides the perks, I selected my companions based on good / positive trades
So does Scouting not matter anymore for party leaders? Especially trade caravans. I thought them being able to see enemies from farther away was beneficial? Pretty sure Flesson did a video on that awhile ago.
Posting on your most recent vid for visibility but this is a CK3 related question, do you have any videos on time management for beginners? I've just picked up the game on PS5, never played a CK game before but i've watched plenty of playthroughs and guides etc on youtube in the past to try and crack the code, so i've got a broad idea of some of the things you can do. I finished the tutorial, felt reasonably confident i'd taken it all in. I did the recommended opening gambits in terms of securing marriages and getting religious affairs in order, getting the opinion/claim ball rolling etc. But then I was kind of stuck, not really knowing what to do with myself. I realised I have no real concept of how long things should take, how much action/decision making is 'enough' before advancing time. Is there no way around it but to just throw your head at the wall until you can instinctually know when you're 'done' so to speak? Is falling behind through inaction or advancing too fast a thing or am I just paranoid?
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, how do I disband a party, I know how to remove all the units but I'm then stuck with having to allocate a companion to a now dead party...

I was thinking the same. More choices mean more fun. Funny fact is that Taleworlds Studio is from Turkey and Aserai culture is their representation in the game. Maybe a little flexing here 😀
@@Trickyman26 aserais represent the arabic culture not turkish

To quickly level up your engineer companion just manually assign him to the siege engine and he will rank up from just shooting the trebuchet etc
How do you do It?
We won with only 45 troops left, and after they decided to vote to give me the castle 🥰 go me.
good to see a fellow 40k fan here :D good video
Where's Jeremus????????????????????????
When giving party roles to companions, the one with the highest skill will always be on the left of the list when you click the role picture
The best companions are family members. You just need to take a lot of time building them up and making marriages happen. Most companions might have good focus allotment, but terrible stat allotment.
With this, how can I get my younger sister married without losing her from my clan?
@@michaeldrummond9644
You don't marry her off. Only marry off female family members to shore up clan support
I think I'll keep her to make a good captain then later a governor...if I marry her off then those babies won't be a benefit
@@michaeldrummond9644 You don't.
You can get 1 extra with a charm perk. level 250 Camaraderie
If you upgrade them to vassals can you hire new ones in their place?
@@DIEGhostfish yup
I agree if I assign a companions as gov it should take them out of my list just like when I add troops to a garrison.
Great guide, this helps out a lot. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
i get a battainian surgeon in all of my playthroughs, because their culture is the only one without the merciful trait.
I didn’t realize companions populated over time maybe it was in an update I missed but some can be generated as a result of quests as well.
I just learned so much about companions. Pure gold.
Good lord, the Companion tracking tip is the most importanti thing I've learned about this game all year.
It appears they patched the encyclopedia because I only see 4 companions and the rest are all question marks. So no more hunting down those awesome companions.
Didnt play the game in years and watched the whole video like spellbound. Well pace and nice voice to follow
I came to see "What skills are needed to make a good party leader companion" in return i get a bunch of names.
Wish there were more of them period, wanted to do a play through of aserai who joined the vlandian and had 3 men to choose from lol
take over 4 towns or castles and you're going to have to wait months to get them running too
@@LordInter yeah I don’t mind that I mostly use fighting mercenaries for money and trade from aserai vlandian and western empire territories so it’s not that bad I don’t do workshops or caravans until way later
RNG, I've had 8 aserai or empire companions available but only 3 from all the rest
this was very helpful because i just got my first fief and I was stressing out about companions thank you very much.
Great video! You even shared the spreadsheet. Awesome!
There is also marriage. If you are playing the campaign ,a spouse for you and your brother is essentially 2 more companions and some of them are very good!
@italianspartacus can you please update your googlelist according to the new patch? Otherwise this video doesnt help anymore :(
Idk how i wasnt subbed. Channel tought me a ton for CK3 and now bannerlord. Subbed now though.
Thank you brother!! :)
Your channel has been the most helpful, man you put the time in I hope you get something out of this honestly great game
There was a train of thought a couple of patches ago where the best caravan companion would have scout and riding. It was very important to be able to get away from bandits or enemy armies while trading would grow naturaly. Has that changes somehow?
Thanks for the video, regards Paras
21:51 how do you spec engineering? By taking part in sieges, I’m assuming?
Wanna cheese the medicine perk simple. Get the largest party of cheap troops you can. Sit in a city with no food and watch them starve. Before the all die buy food let them heal. Rinse repeat.
In tournaments when you watch when your companions fight, they gain skill xp
I made a Khuzait Outcast my trader. Starts with little to no trade skill. He has never once been successfully ambushed during my campaign. He starts with good leadership, tactics and weapons and riding. The logic is that in the beginning you don't need your traders to be super profitable, you just need them to survive, so your not spending the 15k gold to put them back on the road. The trade skill will eventually get there. I stacked him with some good weapons and armor I got in some arenas and as I said. He has never been successfully ambushed once, through multiple wars and decades of campaign time. His trade is now 240.
You also have to bear in mind focus point distribution when considering how you are able to level up and improve companions
Thanks for the videos ItalianSpartacus
Turbo tax commercial really had bro saying “that’s me!” To possibly being the 33 percent that qualify lmao
Awesome info in this! Thanks
Hi Charles! There should be a link on the description right below the video! Let me know if that works. If it doesn't, we can try something else :)
@@italianspartacus I downloaded the spreadsheet but it doesn't look like the spreadsheet that is in video, do I need to request edit access? Just would like it to look like what I'm seeing on this video

If you have questions on bannerlord, strat gaming is the best resource I've seen
yes and flesson19
Hey man they changed the stats? My aserai companion if the wastes got 125 bow and 20 two handed
yea I was so excited to make my fians even godlier but it seems to have been nerfed 😢
If you need a money maker the Ill-starred female companions are great, 80 blacksmithing means they can easily get the javelins unlocked for easy cash.
Just found the channel recently, and you absolutely rock. Although I have to ask, are you secretly binging with babish?
This would be another example of... Do as I say, not as I do. Pour this into a ramaken, place into the oven at 350 for 2 hours and enjoy with your roommate as this is another addition to the clean plate club ;)
Hey, im having this wierd problem with companions, they die right after disbanding, anyone knows what's up with that ?
They can't stand not being around you anymore. The pain of missing you is too much.
they die or they "get lost"? difference
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j pretty sure my companion died, his status in the encyclopedia is "dead"
I had a surgeon that I dismissed so I could up the skill myself. The game said she disappeared under “mysterious circumstances”. It made it sound like I ended her on the road and disposed of the evidence in a shadowy grove. I assure you all that wasn’t the case. lol
Lol @ bugs
I like your content, and this us mostly for the algorithm
I always use falcaøon and hawk as caravans since they have high riding bow a little scout and only are missing trading
i dont know if its bug or not but some of the hero in this video dont have same states as mine for exmaple aseri scholar in my game have only 50 medicine
yeah patches have changed some things from this video.
Thanks for this great video. Now I have to start over again 😃😃👍
Strat is the GOAT for all the work they put into Bannerlord, I worry about their mental health lol
this video helped me so much thank you it was awesome
My horsed companions get placed with the infantry in battles, kinda annoying. In older version I could assign them a combat group from the Party-screen, how does this work in version 1.0 ?
My aserai waste character only had bow and athletics that matched this. His 2 handed was 3 and his scout was 76. He was lvl 15. Iv noticed other variations as well from the list.
thank you ItalianSpartacus. next maybe best gear for each category and faction?
I hate what they did to companions. Having named companions each with their own personality and story added so much charm to warband. This is just yet another casualty.
That is when named companions like in Warband get executed and you are left with nothing, you're gonna wish you had generated companions here. I don't think people really cared about the individual personality, they are just stat bots you send to do stuff.
@@PNarbz123 I mean a ton of people are talking about how they missed the named companions. And I don’t remember any of my companions getting executed.
I started a new game first 3 cities I seen all had tournaments all 3 prizes were wader hotbloods so day 2 I made 53k
personally i find tracker to be the absolute best horse archer captain because the best horse archers being the khan's guard use bow and polearm, and hawk has 0 in polearm whereas tracker mya have slightly lower bow/riding but he also has high polearm
for party leaders i think leadership isn't important at all, you mainly need a high steward/medicine skill, in general high intelligence
It's 1440p brother! :) not sure why it's coming out blurry! I'll look into it
Did they recently change the way scouting levels up? I'm on my first playthrough and I have level 86 scouting after the first year in the game. I do not follow tracks or parties. It seems to just level up from wandering the campaign map. It actually seems to level up too fast imo.
simple open the encypida.. and im lost xD
They literally do all of that in Bannerlord
@@kylelinder5353 well so fat they don't in the console version. They have like 3 dialogue options. Sometimes 4 if there's a task or marriage proposal
I'd say the best infantry captain is coalbiter, since he's also one of the only companions in the game to also have smithing.
Is this video still up to date? I was trying to find a spreadsheet or something similar that wasn't as old as the beta lol
Very helpful thx for the vids
So I actually see the roles as ways to level up my characters for end game as opposed to what you use them for
ugh all the values changed i the last 6 moths or something so ALL the guides I have found are out of date companion stat wise!
Any chance you can share that spreadsheet with us. If it's already somewhere and I just cant see it, sorry.
Why havent a seen any companion mods like modders do for skyrim?
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, how do I disband a party, I know how to remove all the units but I'm then stuck with having to allocate a companion to a now dead party...
