Perfect choice. It was pretty clear all along that he was going to be the guy..but they tried to build some suspense. No band can go wrong with Josh Freese. Total pro. Can play anything....and he doesn't play like a robot. He has feel. Perfect choice.
He's incredible and all over the place. He reminds me of a younger Gregg Bissonette who has played or recorded with damn near everybody. These are exactly the type of guys you want behind the kit.

I just saw Danny/Tool last night at Rockville. Man is 62 years old and still absolutely KILLING it! One of the best to ever do it! I saw Josh with a perfect circle back in 2004. He’s a great choice and his personality really fits with the foos! RIP TAYLOR! Looking forward to this next chapter and I’m so thankful that they decided to continue!

Funny, Dave was the studio drummer on the 2005 NIN album With Teeth, which Josh toured for. And now it's the same with the new album. Super cool and a great choice.
It was the perfect moment for a "Nirvana drummer meets Foo Fighters singer" gag. Like Dave Grohl walks in and asks the band (including Foo Fighters Dave) to join as the new drummer like "well yeah I used to play drums for this 90s band and was thinking that maybe..." but then band replies "naaah, it wouldn't work".
Josh played with the briefly reunited The Replacements at RiotFest in 2013 and, no offense to Mars, holy crap he impressed me by bringing dynamics to The 'Mats I'd not thought would be possible.
0:40 I was at the first show of that tour and Dave told us: "This is our first night playing an arena show as a band!...." That night, they did what VH did opening for Sabbath in England. The Chilli's had a, disappointingly, low energy set but the Foo's blew the roof off the joint and all 4 of us agreed they should have been closing the show instead of opening. I can't believe it's been as long as you said. Thanks for reminding me of that night Dave! It wasn't too much later that I lost her to a stretch of road on an early, October morning. Seems like I'm remembering some other guy's life. It _really_ does feel like I'm borrowing someone else's experiences. I saw that tour in Orlando. The Chilis got up in the risers and were dumping bags of popcorn down on Dave and the boys. Dave's reesponse was "We'll get them back after the show. We're going to f*ck them!!" We thought both bamds put on great shows.

Mine too. First became aware of him when he played on Chris Cornell's "Euphoria Mourning" album. And then his drumming on APC "Mere de Noms" was, for me, the best part of a flawless album.
A month ago, when the song (video) came out, I unmistakably guessed in the commentary to it and claimed it was played by Josh Freeze. Because neither the sound nor the playing style sounded like Taylor (people assumed old records were being used) or Grohl. So I'm proud I guessed and now it's their new drummer.
