Thank you for doing this video! My fiancé & I explored these mountains 2 years ago. You nailed it with explaining the feeling you get while you are out there; you get the sense that a lot of history happened out there, along with an inexplainable feeling of peace & mental clarity. It’s an incredible feeling. Thank you for helping me reminisce. Love from Arizona 🏜
Amazing! Happy to have helped you reminisce. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video it's a really special place and I need to get up there again to make an improved video. I hope you guys are staying safe lots of love from Ireland.
What you say towards the end, about the lost civilisation or the place being like a fortress, i totally agree with you. There is more to this place than meets the eye, and if you consider how many old tombs and passage graves are around this area, it is no surprise, The most under rated county on the west coast, until you go there, and I was there today :)
@@MountainMikesAdventures We were at Mullaghmore beach with the kids, and we took a small trip further up the road to Creevykeel tomb, amazing place also. I agree about carrowkeel though, everyone has been to carrowmore, but for me the bricklieve mountains and carrowkeel, with the views of the lakes are one of the most mystical places in ireland. And its a fair walk up to them too, so ya dont meet too many people. My wife thinks I am crazy, but I am obsessed with our land and its history :)
I have lived in a bungalow underneath Benbulben for the last 37 years and know a lot of the farmers who have land around there. The first thing they will tell you about Benbulben is that you should NEVER E V E R climb the mountain when is cloudy like this. The cloud can completely cover the mountain in minutes. There are gullies carved into the mountain that are at least 40 feet deep and straight down and very rocky also there are loads of hidden and very dangerous ledges that you can fall off. Even farmers who were born around here and have been climbing the mountain to look after the sheep they graze there since childhood would never climb the mountain unless it was completely clear. The cloud can be like a thick thick fog and it it really easy to loose your bearings and direction and that's when terrible accidents can happen, Many people have dies or been seriously injured doing this. By all means come and enjoy the walk and if you do want to climb Benbulben only do so when it is safe to .
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Always had a love of history and myth so it felt like a good fit together. Just need to work on my storytelling ablitiy 😅😉.
@@HillHyker giving your question I was curious myself when🤔. From a quick search I spotted it was officially declared 2009 which is interesting. Apparently, people set them loose and if they are found they are killed due to the risk to the environment. It appears you've thrown a rabbit hole right underneath me 😅 I need to read up more about it especially those in Kerry you mentioned.
@@MountainMikesAdventures For some strange reasons, it is the official statement, there are no wild boar in Ireland. However in reality, things seem very different. When one is seen, we are told it's a pig and has escaped from a local farm.
Thank you for the like. I've not actually been there since I filmed this so must try and get back up myself. Lockdown had definitely helped to give us more appreciation to get to those places we take for granted.
@@MountainMikesAdventures I am from limerick but I always seem to past benbulben if I was going to donegal or after donegal hopefully this summer I'll get to go to it since I'll be getting a electric bike soon

@@jackieconnelly ah cool Mt Fuji, that's on my bucket list. That hike took us about 5-6hrs. July is a very hit and miss month for weather in Ireland we were a bit unlucky as the views are just amazing but as I mentioned in the video it added something else.
@@jackieconnelly ah cool well you'll be more than welcome to Ireland when you get here. Sligo is a beautiful you'll love it just hope the weather holds up. I quite like history so for me it was a easy choice to add it.

Yeah, Sligo is a wonderful place to explore. I also enjoyed the Carrowkeel tombs and the place is steeped in ancient history. Where were you in Sligo?

Haha it takes a particular type of crazy but I'm the same love the history and the landscape.
Beautiful place. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you so much Brain, it's such a mystical place and well worth a visit. Thank you again :)
Hiked this twice first time saw nothing & have never been as wet lol second time I was soooo lucky saw everything , love your video !!!
Yeah the views are amazing got unlucky that day but the clouds did add to it. Thank you
Nice hike, thanks for adding in the history.
Thank you very much, there was so much more I could have added but sadly I had only so much time.

Are you still doing guided hikes of ben bulben Mike? (Or any others for that matter?) traveling to Ireland next year and would like to join in.
I am glad ye made it back safe. I would like to do the climb, but no way with all them wild bore.
There are no more wild bore in Ireland, they were hunted to extinction
@@MountainMikesAdventures when did the last one become extinct. I did hear of some still running around Kerry? Only a few short weeks ago.🤫

You should You should have gone into Diarmuid and Grainne's cave. It's a neat place.
Yeah, we would have loved to but we had to drive back home.
you wud be a very good tour guide
Thank you, it's actually something I've considered but never came to anything.
Which is the best month to trek
It's a tough one to call in Ireland but I normally find May had the best weather and the start of September.
How long of a hike was this?
Summer 2017 would have been July I believe.
