@@Dazulolwarrior It won't. This protest will not make a dent. As Phil said, when some people don't want to work, others will. Uber will stay a company made for part-time employees if they're upper management is smart.

Kim Kardashian is reading for the California Bar. That means that in a few years she'll be a proper lawyer. She's doing something useful, good for her.
Maybe she's at a point in her life where she's decided to grow up. Yeah, good for her. I applaud people using the platform given to them for good and not selfishness.
If it was treated as a taxi then i would assume prices for people looking for rides would be standardized and thus would defeat the point of uber, though i could be wrong 🤷♀️
It's not but the company is not considering how many miles are being put into the workers own personal car and they have to pay for their own gas as well.
The uber thing confuses me. Ive always seen it advertised as extra cash, not as a full time support yourself job. I also dont know how uber is meant to guarantee a minimum per hour wage when its based on how many rides you do and how far they go.
It seems to be no different then content makers on youtube. Both were never to actually be full time jobs. But many seem to put their eggs all in one basket. They made a bad choice by depending completely on uber as a fullt ime job when they shouldn't have.
It destroyed the taxi industry and most cab drivers are full time Uber drivers now. What do you mean “not a full time job?” We live in a gig economy in America rn and the fastest growing demographic within the workforce are contractors. Also, the longer the trip - the less the driver makes. On longer trips Uber’s % goes up. It’s counterintuitive and the drivers make less money for spending more time driving someone. Uber advertises as taking 20% but sometimes their take exceeds 60%. It’s unethical.
I respect anyone’s right to protest, but the ride sharing apps have always been, in my mind, extra income as you said Phil. In my college town, the drivers I see are young people and those who don’t work more than a few hours on the weekends.
Yeah, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this situation. What did people expect to happen when they decided to work for uber instead of a regulated company?
The only thing I'd fear for this is that many low skill jobs are being eaten up, be it by regulation, greed or automation. For some places, more rural I've seen people who can't adapt since they've hit that age and only have driving left.
It shouldn't have happened but here we are. Another week, another school shooting, only about seven days after the last one if I'm right, at least the last one that was mentioned on this channel. You'd think laws would be made to try and prevent this from happening so often, but as it is, I feel like we've just become desensitised to it instead.
Uber was NEVER meant to be a goddamn full time job. It's an app that connects drivers to people who need to get places, and drivers make extra cash on the side.
Yes that's because uber designed it to kill the taxi industry. In order to kill it they make it cheap to get a ride and don't pay the drivers much. So drivers are forced to make it just a part time job instead of a full time job. Thank goodness there's no uber or Lyft where I live. Taxis still exist here and it's $19/he minimum wage to start plus tips. So divers can easily work full time no problem
It’s also a matter of WHERE someone lives. They’re complaining about it being unfair only in big cities where it costs tons to live. That’s true for any job, not just Uber.
kevshorty Uber isn’t designed to “kill the taxi industry” it’s an innovation on an old system and if people are complaining “it’s to expensive in San Francisco” then don’t live in huge city where the price of housing is insurmountable.(not to mention there is a huge homeless crisis with huge numbers of public dedication)
stockart whiteman I don’t understand your reasoning. What determines “the service of what would be a full time job”? Considering most do it part time. Most businesses have full time and part time employees that do the same jobs...

Did anybody notice that the Uber and Lyft drivers who are struggling to make ends meet are living in cities that have absurdly high tax rates and fees? Is this a Uber/Lyft problem? Or a high cost of living in some cities problem?
I think it's a little of both man, I live in a lower tax/cost of living area and take uber almost daily these dudes are definitely hurting from this here too.
Yeah once I heard the cities striking I got a flashback to the strikes the McDonald's employees had a while back. Living in these areas is absurd unless you have a very well paying job.

people really don't give enough thought to gas costs alone. maintenance and other things are also needed, but having to pay for the gas in your car really needs to be accounted for.
the volume thing was obviously dishonest in terms of downplaying difference between substances. I mean you could adopt a similar purely volume-based logic to dismiss someone having only having half a bag of anthrax.
The uber thing sounds more like lyft and uber think of themselves as supplemental income, while drivers think of them as a full time career. The disconnect is the problem, but i feel the best solution is to first off, get a deal with major gas stations like many other companies, and secure lower gas prices for their drivers. Many ways to do this, probably the best way is a slight increase to ride costs that goes to their gas benefits. Also they need to make a clear divide between career drivers and side income drivers, having better pay and more benefits for career drivers but with minimums of time spent working to keep those benefits, while non-career drivers get less overall with no minimums.
Not being cynical but good luck working with big oil. They’d probably have a better shot asking Tesla(or other ev manufacturer) for a discount on vehicles 🤷🏾♂️
Tearyatobitz i mean companies from big airline and credit cards down to smaller stores like Kroger have gas rewards programs they have set up with most gas stations, Kroger giving up to a dollar a gallon off of gas prices. It’s not as hard as you think bud
@@Tearyatobitz yah Tesla is heading for self driving taxis so...??? And Lyft and Uber replaced taxis, as a convenient, more accessible, forward thinking car service. Why Uber drivers are trying to unionize and become a worse taxi service is beyond me. Jesus, I've had uber show up, drive aimlessly around me, not speak a word of English (or worse not have a working cellphone) and then I'm charged a cancel fee. Now they're gonna charge a fee for them to drive to you and expect you to pay by the mile??!! A taxi would be cheaper and more convenient. Lyft is far from perfect but most people switched over bc Uber is shit now. And I know people making bank driving Lyft on the weekends, WEEKENDS. As supplementary income.
Nick Miller both are very profitable. For the companies like lyft and uber, there are always people willing to pay for a service like theirs, and them and their employees get to profit off of them. And for oil companies, having large numbers of people who are on the road 8+ hours a day means more gas will be sold than if those people had other jobs. It isnt your place to decide how people make their money, whether you consider it “skilled” or not is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that there is money to be made, and if someone chooses to earn that money so be it. But having part time employees and full time employees making the same amount of money, regardless of effort or value to the company, is a major problem.

What's even crazier, and that Phil didn't bring up in this video, is that Kim is also apprenticing under several of the lawyers she's been working with on these cases and studying to take the California bar exam to become a lawyer herself. She's so dedicated to this cause that she's willing to take the most notoriously difficult bar exam in the entire country (literally only 60% of all people pass on their first try and those are people who all actually went to law school) just so she can do more of the casework herself and not have to rely only on her money and influence to help these people. Over $20 per hour with Lyft, my ass. After wear and tear on your car, gas costs, costs to keep your car clean, tolls and taxes, the pay is more like $8 per hour if that.
even then, the only time i got close to, or over, $20/hr on lyft or uber was during city wide events, or cheating the system at airports. at best on a good day, it would be closer to $16-18/hr, and that was still before the expenses you listed (gas, food, wear and tear, etc...). i aimed for $200/day before quitting, gas was low and i had good gas mileage, and spent $25 on gas, $10 for food for the day, and about $30 for wear and tear. that alone would be $65, add on insurance, and it goes up to $70, leaving me with $130/day. after EASILY 12-15 hours per day, that comes out to roughly $8.60/hr. ya'know what, i wasnt expecting that my math/costs would come out to the same figure that you gave, but it does. but either way, either before or after costs, it doesnt reach $20/hr, and thats one thing i hate about their ads. im just lucky enough that i was on the platform before they increased their cut from 20% to 25%
@@ZUMYnivedo As a driver for both apps for two years, I can tell you that you were never going to make $200/day and keep your sanity. Beyond the occasional oil change, I do perfectly fine as a part time driver.
@@robertblake7116 maybe i should rephrase and say that in my area, that is what i would do. i live in the dallas metroplex, and didnt have much trouble making $200 in a single day. although there were long periods of inactivity. at which point i just relaxed until my next request. i did that for 3 years before trip frequency became too little so i stopped.

Living wages is a fight worth having but I am not asking for vision and dental for cutting somebody's grass. The fact that Uber drivers can do similar work to taxi drivers without a taxi medallion is because they are ride sharing and not full time employees.
I wonder if she would be allowed to become a lawyer. Applicant’s pasts are generally scrutinized when trying to become a lawyer because they need to be “of good moral standing” and given her past controversies, I seriously wonder if she would even be allowed to take the bar exam. I don’t know a ton about the topic, so I could be wrong. But if she really wants to be a lawyer, more power to her. She’s already proven she wants to help people
I never thought I'd say this, but good on Kim Kardashian. Seriously, she deserves a pat on the back. And I agree with Phil, even if she is doing it just for publicity, I don't care. Way I see it, when people do good things, I really don't care about their motives; I only care about the outcomes, and the outcome here is that people who should not be in prison (at least not for the length of time they were) are now free to reenter society, which is something to be glad about..
Same man for me the motives don't really matter, almost nobody does anything just to help there's always a reason even if the person doing it doesn't realize

If you want hourly pay as an uber driver, then you either shouldnt be an uber driver, or uber drivers should stop getting ANYTHING from their fares and only make their hourly. You cant have your cake and eat it too. Uber/Ridesharing was never intended to be a full time job. It was meant to be a "Hey I'm going where you are, pay me and Ill take you too" type of deal. Then it expanded into "We're better than cabs and the drivers get the fare using their own car" etc. The demands shown are ridiculous. The moment you show the driver the destination, they suddenly dont want short trips (The exact issue almost every city in the world has with the traditional taxi/cab system) and we are back at square one. Shame on you uber drivers, this is nonsense. This is meant to be extra earnings, not sole earnings.
I was in rideshare once (I wasn't using uber) and the driver recounted the time that someone was charged 114$ for 5 miles and the driver got only 24 of it it was uber select during a big concert bug still

I will never trust a driverless car. PC's face bugs and crashes all the time. What happens when the computer components that is driving the car crashes? Got no control or anything. @@kevshorty Indeed, computers malfunction sometimes, but can you say you would rather try to finesse the brakes in an emergency situation rather than have ABS? Technology isn't 100% reliable, but I would say it is monumentally more reliable than humans.
@@Dryblack1 again if it's 100% computer controlled and the computer components shutdown, how are you supposed to correct it enough so you don't get into too bad of a crash. You can't compare a few thousand driverless cars to millions of human drivers. So I'll never trust a driverless car. Look at what happened with Boeing for instance. The more technology they put in the newer planes immediately saw more problems than good. There's no good data to say more automated technology for transportation is better

Anybody with a grasp on basic civics knows this. The Trump Admin is flouting the law with wild abandon.
Why is it reasonable for anyone to see private tax documents? At some point we need to trust the people in the IRS to do their job. I feel like Uber/Lyft and similar drivers are mostly doing it for supplemental income and not as a full-time job, and the rates and structure of the companies are built around such an idea. Working full time for uber and Lyft seems to be outside of the scale of intent for these companies, so they arent optimized for this. This is exemplified by 75 percent of lyfts drivers using it as supplemental income. To me, if they want to optimize for that system, then need to be very clear to their drivers that "This should NOT be a full time job." Or, alternatively, well reviewed and established drivers can be promoted from contractors to employees. Rates for using employees are higher as they are paid more, but employee are more consistent than contractors. They could operate as full time employees and get benefits and a livable wage. But I'm no business manager, so maybe this wouldn't work.
to me, i think they should put an hours cap per week, maybe 30 hours per week. that would send the message that "this is not a primary source of income, this is supplementary"

My beef Uber is they outsourced to India for their customer service and they wouldn’t let me drive anymore after they looked at my driving record. I drove over 900 people with them. The tickets I got while driving for them were dumb tickets like unloading passengers in non unloading zone and 5 over the speed limit. I was involved in 3 accidents. One was obviously the chicks fault and 2 I should’ve took it to court but didn’t. One of those was a guy hit me in the back in the fast lane and the officer said it was my fault because I didn’t give him enough time to stop. Such BS officer wasn’t there. I merged over and everyone stopped in front of me in the fast lane, the guy in front of me swerved to avoid collision, I stopped and the guy hits me in the back and somehow it’s my fault. Then they send me a bill to fix his Prius. I was so mad. So those things are why Uber and Lyft won’t let me drive for them. So I’m very mad. It’s like Uber was never meant to be a full time job
Why would driving for a Taxi company be, but not Uber or Lyft?
@@JanderVK because at the very for Uber their slogan is get your SIDE hustle on in other words straight up tell people its not meant to be a career
JanderVK because if they were an actual taxi company that would be illegal they get around it by passing it as a carpool app
It’s just poor people being stupid.
Sarah Odman: exactly
It’s unethical.
the per hour world be per hour driven, obviously
I respect anyone’s right to protest, but the ride sharing apps have always been, in my mind, extra income as you said Phil. In my college town, the drivers I see are young people and those who don’t work more than a few hours on the weekends.
Yeah, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this situation. What did people expect to happen when they decided to work for uber instead of a regulated company?
The only thing I'd fear for this is that many low skill jobs are being eaten up, be it by regulation, greed or automation. For some places, more rural I've seen people who can't adapt since they've hit that age and only have driving left.
RIP Castillo. It's a tragedy that this happened to you, you are a hero
It shouldn't have happened but here we are. Another week, another school shooting, only about seven days after the last one if I'm right, at least the last one that was mentioned on this channel.

Uber was NEVER meant to be a goddamn full time job. It's an app that connects drivers to people who need to get places, and drivers make extra cash on the side.
Exactly. It was always marketed as a "side job". I don't get what all the fuss is about
Yes that's because uber designed it to kill the taxi industry.

Mike Hunt you ok buddy? Had a bad day? Feeling better after aimlessly ranting?

Over $20 per hour with Lyft, my ass. After wear and tear on your car, gas costs, costs to keep your car clean, tolls and taxes, the pay is more like $8 per hour if that.
even then, the only time i got close to, or over, $20/hr on lyft or uber was during city wide events, or cheating the system at airports. at best on a good day, it would be closer to $16-18/hr, and that was still before the expenses you listed (gas, food, wear and tear, etc...). i aimed for $200/day before quitting, gas was low and i had good gas mileage, and spent $25 on gas, $10 for food for the day, and about $30 for wear and tear. that alone would be $65, add on insurance, and it goes up to $70, leaving me with $130/day. after EASILY 12-15 hours per day, that comes out to roughly $8.60/hr.
ya'know what, i wasnt expecting that my math/costs would come out to the same figure that you gave, but it does. but either way, either before or after costs, it doesnt reach $20/hr, and thats one thing i hate about their ads. im just lucky enough that i was on the platform before they increased their cut from 20% to 25%
Becone a truck driver. Swift will pay for training
@@ZUMYnivedo As a driver for both apps for two years, I can tell you that you were never going to make $200/day and keep your sanity. I manage to make about $25/hr, with about $15 worth of gas making me $100, sometimes more. I don't get food, I keep my car clean, so no expenses there.
@@ZUMYnivedo how did you cheat the system at the airport?
Will you cover representative Brian Sims and him heckling anti-abortion activists, offering his own fans to doxx those activists, recording all of that, posting it on his profile and making the worst apology video ever?

I don't understand the these Uber drivers expecting full time pay and benefits when the whole concept is that this is a side gig.
Miguel Salazar me either
I think its because they actually make good money...
Seriously, who the fuck would work for -50c an hour? Why complain about a crappy job when you can just quit...?
Hmmm...
Living wages is a fight worth having but I am not asking for vision and dental for cutting somebody's grass. The fact that Uber drivers can do similar work to taxi drivers without a taxi medallion is because they are ride sharing and not full time employees.
Kim Kardashian is also studying to be a lawyer. Like. She’s 100% serious on this and she wouldn’t do that if it was a publicity stunt
Gabe I hope she succeeds in thay field. It's very admirable of her!
She’s already proven she wants to help people
Of course she would lol.
She most defintley would lol. Congrats and all on doing some good finally for people but let's not portend she's a saint now

I mean as long as she does it the fair way without any extra support because of her status and without some alterior motive to gain something then yeah... No problems over here👍
Hey Philip, you should talk about the bill to ban Loot Boxes in Games.
If he is disobeying the law then impeach him. I'm a Trump supporter. But I support the American Constitution before I support any politics.
Leave his taxes alone. Unless you have evidence of wrong doing already, you are fishing. I'd be bothered if you did this to regular citizens. That extends to the President at well.
Agreed.
It’s nice seeing trump supporters drawing the line. Now with trump saying he wants a 6 year first term. Im wondering who his supporters would side with, trump or the constitution.
He retweeted someone facetiously suggesting he gets two more years because of all the time Dems have wasted. Why are you acting like he issued an executive order in direct opposition to the constitution to actually implement this?
Agreed. I'm not a Trump supporter but I can agree that some Democrats are taking this way too far. Some of them seem so antagonistic towards Trump that they never truly listen to what he has to say and disregard his privacy completely. And then they wonder why he gets pissed at them.
@@lukedetering4490 lol, yep. One of the many reasons I like Andrew Yang is because it's platform is not "Orange man bad". He actually has well thought out policies. I disagree with many of them. But here's likely the best equipped man for the job with the changes already happening to our work force. He knows the peace of change is far quicker then we are ready to deal with currently.

17:15 Good job reporting the hero vs the villain. Wat to go Kendrick Castillo!
the moment he mentioned the throat punching I could just feel there was a shirt coming and I was correct.
Uber pay will continue to go down, the more people that sign up as a driver the cost to customers will go down, not to mention all these self driving cars making driving less of a hassle
Videomixerify what they need to do is improve the GPS system. On average the GPS is of target by 50 yards and in a lot of cases in areas with no coverage. Witch can be life threatening. Once they do that then I can see self driving cars as a viable option
It's like a housing market crash but for taxis lmaoo
I will never trust a driverless car. PC's face bugs and crashes all the time. What happens when the computer components that is driving the car crashes? Got no control or anything. Just you watching yourself crash because you trusted a driverless car. At least when a human makes an error in judgment they could still have a few seconds to try correct their driving or lessen the impact in some way. With a driverless car you can't do that
@@kevshorty Indeed, computers malfunction sometimes, but can you say you would rather try to finesse the brakes in an emergency situation rather than have ABS? Technology isn't 100% reliable, but I would say it is monumentally more reliable than humans.
@@Dryblack1 again if it's 100% computer controlled and the computer components shutdown, how are you supposed to correct it enough so you don't get into too bad of a crash. With a human a human you can still swerve somewhere more safe if you know you going to crash. With an automated car you cannot do that. And I disagree that it's safer than humans. You can't compare a few thousand driverless cars to millions of human drivers. So I'll never trust a driverless car. Look at what happened with Boeing for instance. The more technology they put in the newer planes immediately saw more problems than good. There's no good data to say more automated technology for transportation is better

Oversight is a legitimate legislative purpose. Congress requires no specific reason other than its constitutionally-mandated oversight duties to examine the POTUS's tax information for conflicts of interest, violations of the Emoluments Clause, or any other concerns that the American public has a right to know about regarding a public official. Anybody with a grasp on basic civics knows this. The Trump Admin is flouting the law with wild abandon.

Why is it reasonable for anyone to see private tax documents? At some point we need to trust the people in the IRS to do their job. If the taxes didn't throw up any red flags that resulted in an audit, or there was an audit that was resolved, then there should be no reason to review them now. I don't care if it is Democrat or Republican, this type of focused fishing is wrong.

@@umphreak9999 That actually sounds like a really good idea, I like it! Though I think that it would probably be 20 because that's the default maximum for a part time job in the US, as well as maximum hours for any high school student.
Do you think it would work to include the part in which the best uber drivers are promoted to employees or would that sink the company?
Jynexe maximum for part time is 30 hours

There is no gratefulness or loyalty I was just a number to them. 😜
