    Thanks again OP see you tonight. Im going to attempt to build a very light one that i can backpack with. Im working on a backpack for hiking and setting up radio on the trails

      Craig on our livestreams has a great small pack setup for his radios. I'll find out what he used to make it and forward it to you.

    If using just one solar panel u can.use a cheaper pwm controller. If ur using more than 1 panel u should use mppt controller than will maximize exposed cells on multiple panels

    Also that battery is lead acid and you should only run down between 60 to 80%. Most pre.made ones use lithium types that you can run down safely to about 20 %

      All good points, but I am going to cover that in the next video. If you recall, I said in this video that I would cover charging when I got to that point, which is only possible after the unit is built. I guess I should have told viewers to watch for that, but I was in a hurry because rain was moving in again; LOL.

      @@dickthomas7028, 14 gauge.

    Those Thunderbolt batteries are SLA (sealed lead acid) so you really only get half the watts vs LifePo4.
    Still a good deal though.

    • @theorlandoprepper
      @theorlandoprepper  Год назад

      You are correct, sir, and a LifePo4 is also lighter. A 12v-50amp LifePo4 weighs about 11 pounds, and it has 15 more amps than the Thunderbolt. It cost twice the price of the Thunderbolt, but the extra expense is easily offset in the long run. Thanks for watching.

    You do not include breaker in your configuration. Also it's hot in Orlando so a vent fans or at least some vents would be helpful. . Also perhaps showing options for mc4 connector for solar panel options. Also your charge controller have USB so repositioning of the controller so USB access with lid closed.
    The battery is 35 Amp hour and let people know what u can run . Also the gauge of wire needed. I would suggest 14 ro 10 gauge

      @theorlandoprepper  2 года назад +1

      At just 10 amps a breaker is not necessary but can be included. The idea is to build it as simple as possible. The wire is 14 gauge and the USB on the CC can be accessed when the top is open, but it also has them on the outside (as shown) for using when the lid is closed. As for vents, again, not necessary. I've used one just like this for 3 years in the summer heat here in Orlando without a single problem.

    Very cool. I see the comments about the heat. I have 2 deep cell batteries. I am worries about not having proper circulation. Getting 8 more will be a challenge keeping cool.

      I used 14 gauge in the video, but 12 gauge will work as well. Thanks for watching.
