The Oscars changed it to 10 Best Picture nominations for the 2009 Oscars because there was a huge uproar that The Dark Knight and WALL-E weren't nominated for Best Picture, but then for the 2009 Oscars a few movies were nominated that definitely shouldn't have because they HAD to nominate 10. Now, the Academy nominates UP TO 10 films so they can pick the best. I personally like this rule so that more films that deserve to be nominated have a chance.

I agree. Best horror and comedy should be a thing. It's pretty easy to play on people's sympathies and emotions because as humans, or for me at least, empathy is something easy to play on. That might be why they use that for awards since it's more universal, but to get people to be genuinely scared or get them to laugh is quite an achievement. Maybe it's best to leave it to the People's Choice Awards though? Just thinking out loud. Feel free to discuss.
I think animated movies should get more than animated movies as a category. There are so many well done animations that are not at all geared towards only children. I think animations should get categories just like live action films. Comedy, horror, drama. Animations come in so many different forms that they shouldn't all be lumped together.
I feel like if there were an award for best movie ending, it would go to Rouge One. As strange as it may sound, I loved the ending. It left me with a huge smile. I love it when movies end in that way.
Critic James Berardanelli had a fascinating idea for the Oscars. What if all the nominees for Best Picture had to have made over 100 million dollars at the Box Office? The constant nomination of small, barely seen movies is killing the Oscar's ratings. Imagine how many people might watch if there was a chance movies that they'd actually SEEN were competing for Best Picture?
I know that many aren't like this but for me personally, for the past 10 years or so I've only watched 1 or 2 movies a year. Only 2 were in theaters and that was The Force Awakens and Rouge One. I guess I'm just one of those people who don't find movies all that engaging
