Now why can't these so-called engineers make something this simple on a smaller scale? I have now been researching self-cleaning litter boxes for days, and this is the best one.
Best DIY one I've seen yet! Would love to see an updated version that is smaller, made from stainless steel, and includes, a light and air filter. You are talented :)
Well done sir. I appreciate the over-engineering of the mechanics. May I suggest adding some synthetic waterproof sheets around the inside of the business area. I see it's painted, but something as simple as sheet flooring or laminate (formica) would hold up better in the long run. Not being a software guy, I would have used a few logic gates to control the motor, but hey, if you can use a computer, why not? A big thumbs up!
Ha! This is awesome! How did you come across the hardware?! Ball screws!!!! You were not messing around! Nice work, I love when people go all in and really make something right
Great video! Just a thought.... holding 2 weeks of litter in the room will still smell. If you could figure a way to hook the shoot so that it dumps it down a shoot to an external trashcan - that would be awesome.
I enjoy the concept and the design , but I think it's a little big and has a few safety issues..hopefully i didn't miss something and it only cycles manually and not automatically .....if it's auto with the chain at the bottom being exposed. ...with my cats I could see an unintentionally amputated tail with the way they like lying under things. With the way my cat isn't spooked by much he'd just lay there until it was too late. Or my other cat attacks anything that moves and would stick his paw in the moving chain and get a manicure the hard way....Another thing is what about when your cats are older or maybe get sickly? Climbing the tree to get to the box may become difficult or be a bad idea for older less agile cats (maybe borderline cruel) Would you tell your grandmother... "Sure, you can use the bathroom, it's on the 4th floor on the other side of the maze". I'm sure mine would punch me in the face if I said that to her . Also, for what you spent on materials and equipment to build it....you probably could have bought a litter robot or equivalent. ..maybe even 2 of them....sensors, electronics, ball screws and pillow blocks aren't cheap. I get it...it's a stick it to big corporation project or I can do it better project, but there should be a line between that and futility. Just my 2 cents. You accomplished what you set out to build....so congrats on that. Time to refine it.
This is Awesome. I love your spreadsheet. I am an excel nut and love these things. I am in the process of building something similar. I however, have a picky wife and she wants me to build it around a big piece of furniture to make it less noticeable to visitors. WOuld you be open to share your spreadsheet and hardware sources?
This is the kinda stuff I can't wait to do when I get a house of my own. Haha. I am not knowledgeable though to know how to do calculations and what not in excel, just an inventor and tinkerer kind of mind from being a mech eng minor, but ended up in graphic design and motion graphics. I don't know why, but for me, can't wait to make a pneumatic garage door with allen bradley buttons on a remote control panel by the door, haha. Would be so loud and unnecessary, but would sound so cool. Haha. Can't wait! XD What type of engineer are you by profession?
Brian Davies I would say so, but now you get to do whatever you want! :), just probably with a smaller budget, haha. What do you do now if you don’t mind me asking?
That was my primary goal in doing this: keeping the litter in the box. It seems to work 100% with two of our cats. However, a 3rd cat has longer tufts of fur just above his paws (inside of his “wrists”) that seem to carry a bit of litter onto the top 2 steps. I can tell when he uses it because there will be maybe 5 grains on the top step and a couple more on the 2nd. But still, this is a 99% improvement over the literal piles of litter that they would shovel out of our prior litter box on a daily basis. Every few months I pull out the shop vac to clean the pile of litter that accumulates at the bottom of the carpeted ramps. So, we know the ramps are doing their job, especially since that is exclusively litter that was stuck to their feet as they are not able to throw litter up into the ramp area.
Prior to this, our cats preferred to poop outside in the field behind our house or in the neighbor’s flower-beds rather than using the commercially available litter box we owned. It’s now common for them to meow to come inside just so they can go downstairs and use this litter box. You clearly don’t understand cats.
De you have a Lion?
lol
I see the kitties are getting their flight simulator training hours in.👍
🤣🤣🤣

Google Litter Robot.
What’s stopping you from doing it?
Litter robot 😍
That is amazing, I tip my hat to you and the love and dedication you have shown for your cats
Cat: well trained hoooman....

Great job! Add a bathroom ventilation fan to the outside and it's complete!

Take my MONEY!!!!
I have 5 cats, this size would be PURRfect

I didn't know you could do that with excel! amazing design!
I wish I could do all that forces interaction design, nice job!

That ridiculously made. But clever.
Dayum. What a great cat owner, very dedicated!! 👏🏽👏🏽
You should post more videos if you have more wonderful contraptions/inventions. Love this stuff.
Litter box is awesome, but after seeing your excel skills I realize I need WAY more training.
Love it! It’s like a giant Omega Paws box…much better though!
10 pounds of litter just sitting in that bag stinking up the room? I’ll take litter on the floor any day.
I thought my Litter Robot was big. Prob cost less than this monster.
Blown away. What lucky cats!
Amazing DIY!! 👌

Sure, just send me an e-mail (link under the About tab) and I will reply with the XLS and hardware sources.
I'd like that too, please
@@andersonfloresdesouza9588 I emailed you :)
Poop and pee balls lol this is genius
This is insane😳😂 good job
As an architect I look at this, impressed, and then think....shoulda gone with birch plywood
2 weeks no litter changing with Multiple Cats Wowww🔥🔥🔥🔥🤗
Add some Designs ... A must have ...
The Master Skill Omg 💥💥💥💥💕
Really? Only 8 subscribers? That box is amazing
Excellent work, great insight. Something I would have done with several cats. (GF has 8 of them)
Garage door parts will make this way better ____ old jackshaft opener + torsion springs
Nicely done!
Wild!
Awesome! Very creative!
Awesome job!
Dude that's awesome

Mechanical, but haven't worked as one for 25-years. It would appear that I miss it, huh?

Could have scooped the box 5 times by the time that does 1.
Lol what happens when you get a bored engineer
nice work dude 👌👌👌
Amazing!
Got any plans and schematics? I need that but not as big
This looks like the omega paw litter box.
Holy shit
The best thing about this is actually the carpet ramp. Does it work 100%?

It looks like a aircraft simulator
Its kinda big ._.
Ingenious monstrosity
Are you still using it in 2024
Yep - still going. No break-downs yet - even past the warranty period. 🙂 But we're moving into an RV soon, so not sure what to do with this thing...
you should just switch to wood pellet litter.
Not all cats will take to it. My 6 year old did, but no tthe 12 year old.
isn't that to much for just a litter box?
is there any written guide for this one - or only to show off
Hahaha
Great effort but i think this is just overkill and waste of time but besides that its a great project!
He may have taken this as a personal challenge. A fun way to use his intelligence and wood skills.
WTF 300lbs
You have this huge thing in your house just so your cats can shit
Brilliant observation. Thank you for sharing.
B I G and kinda of a jerk move to force your cats thru a maze of sorts just to take a pee

@@briandavies4880 I think it's awesome! Clear to see who here has/had cats to clean a litter box, and who did not.
