Imagine being sonic running across Green Hill casually and then he just randomly sees a pixelated version of his rival skipping the platforms and just barely playing the game right.
Legit hoping this can be used as a basis for a more balanced/generations-level friendly Mario mod that isn't just a Sonic reskin or modelswap. This is insanely impressive, but Mario's physics and general speed clearly don't lend well to the level design and need some tweaking.
This could be used for an entire TC with new levels. Mario takes the spot of Classic Sonic, with half of the levels coming from Mario games. They could still be split by era, so say Classic would Super Mario Bros. 1, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World. Early 3D would be Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Modern would be Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Mario Odyssey. I think it would make more sense for Mario to use his 3D Land/World style of gameplay though, but it's not far off from 64's.
I'm gonna be honest. When I woke up today I didn't expect to see Mario from Super Mario 64 with recreated physics and controls imported into Sonic Generations.
@@zawn8221 If they did it would be illegal on another level (stealing code VS reverse engineering). They were actually lucky, they just barely made it in time before the code leaked, otherwise it would have been harder to prove that they didn't steal code (white box vs black box development).
This is a definitive proof that Sonic & Mario crossovers don't have to be limited to Olympics and Smash. A platforming crossover is absolutely possible.
Except Sonic Generations don't have a run button. I think I see what you're getting at, but that'd be pretty odd. Also it turns out, while the jump height in 64DS is slightly higher than 64, the running speed and movement are just slower and stiffer
Its probably made the same way as the super mario 64 in minecraft mod. It uses the source code from mario 64 in a way that its compatible with the code of another game in this case sonic generations
This alongside with Retro64 really impressed me, at first I thought it was a simple skin mod, but nope it's literally Mario 64 moveset in another game, which by the way, I hope something similar happens in more games so we can have now an esque HD Mario 64 levels, I especially want this with Mario Odyssey or Galaxy but this is fantastic

AFAIK, this mod uses a library built off of the revere-engineered version of SM64, so someone who knows their way around the code might be able to do that…

The mod could be tweaked to swap out the visuals/audio being loaded, but I get the feeling it would need to be made by someone else other than the person who made the original mod so Nintendo wouldn’t shut down the whole thing
Because of Havoc needing to have consistent physics between all characters. That's partially why Mania had an easier time with getting the Classic physics right, since all characters played the same

@@mrdashell6517 That Mario Rom is essentially open source. With the right knowhow, you could hack Mario's moveset into the Odyssey moveset.
