Turning Sonic Generations into Sonic Unleashed (Again)

- A lot moved forward for the past two weeks, we have major development on XNCPLib and Shuriken allowing us to directly import XNCP from other games to Sonic Generations, while it is still in development, here's a quick showcase on what can be achieved. All of the main stage HUD are directly imported from Sonic Unleashed, including speedometer, and correct boost bar, ported by Skyth.
I also mess around with other stuff, you should notice drifting is now gaining speed not just on water just like Unleashed! Even though you can gain speed on ground, you will still be able to do precise turns while boosting unlike Unleashed. The animation has been fixed to not change direction all the time.
Also QSS is here! People have to begging for this for months, some people have been saying they are planning to restore it but never did, so I guess I'll do it myself, it's literally less than 30 lines of code and took me 15 minutes to implement.

We've reached a point where the only thing in-game that lets us tell this apart from actual Unleashed is the lack of QTEs. It otherwise looks and feels EXACTLY like Unleashed. Legit insane.
Interestingly, there are QTEs in the code of the demo of Sonic Generations for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and it looks like it's directly ported from Unleashed, it works perfectly fine but it goes unused and removed from the complete version of the game.
@@zsck as much as I like Unleashed Im glad the QTEs were removed from the final Generations product tbh, although I'm not completely against the idea of them being brought back into Generations and fully implemented for the sake of recreating Unleashed.

i love seeing that gens' modding has gone so far, both on a technical and presentation view, i didn't think it could've improve after 2013's UP

I've been following you for almost as long as I can remember watching Generations mods on RUclips (probably 10 years at this point), and I never thought we'd get to this point in the Sonic modding community. The waiting for pretty much 1:1 recreations of certain Sonic games in Generations is almost over. What a time to be alive
Seeing the speedometer along with QSS working is so terrifyingly accurate I almost thought this was the original game.

Man, to see the stomp working like it did in Unleashed brings a tear to my eye. I'll be waiting for every mod in the video to be released to boot up Generations again. Can't wait.

I smiled as if we have the upper hand when it comes to Unleashed to Generations modding when I seen the speedometer working like I haven't had little to do with any Gens modding until recently. This is definitely an achievement long in progress, that XNCPLib and Shuriken porting and editing is definitely a blessing, even if it's difficult to learn and somewhat time consuming, it sure is needed and wanted like any other tool that can be used or even exploited to modifying games.
Generations modding has become the GOAT.

You can tell it's Generations because the Drift actually works.
gens' physics and controls are overall better, wish there could be a convenient way to toggle between these and unleashed's, afaik the model mod comes bundled with them
i think i can omit the ar00 file, but idk how much it'll break the mod

you aren't supposed to be boosting while drifting, Sonic controls like a car after all, and you don't apply nitro while drifting in a racing game now do you?
@@badcatalex sonic isn't a car though, gens has a better flow while boosting and drifting, not to mention even drifting without boosting there has better handling. Even though SU and SG have similar control schemes, Gens is way more intuitive due to commands layout and functionalities (and also not locking most of your moveset from the start)
Sonic R definitely has a car sonic control-wise, but since it's a racing game, kinda makes sense I guess, still controls awful in the end

amazing, and seeing how far modding has gone, if someone can replace Classic and his moveset with the Werehog, if possibly, Unleashed could be fully ported to PC via Generations
Seeing as how SM64 Mario happened, I can't help but believe it's possible. Hopefully in a different way though.

@@VenusTheSandman I meant different as in different from Mario 64's method. Because nobody is willing to fully decompile the Werehog gameplay from Unleashed.
The werehog should start off as faithful as possible for purists. Then the modders can worry about fixing it.
@@DarkLink1996. I'd be truly impressed, but I don't see how it'd be possible to code the Werehog with all his attacks and combos and proper physics into Generations unless Unleashed is decompiled. I don't think anybody wants to be bothered with decompiling Unleashed of all games...
@@yeahokaylol9231 Indeed. Decompiling N64/PS1 games is a pain already, let alone be a game that is from 2 console generations later, the job will be nightmarish.

The accuracy of these mods keep getting better and better, from the speed gauge actually working. The only way I can tell the difference at this point, are the physics, the lack of rainbow rings, and some animations
So 5 Months later and Crawling and the Unleashed Style Foot Sweep exist now, it seems that this video needs an update to show the true Unleashed Experience.
I know it's generations because of how easier it is to control Sonic. Sonic improved, though I'm not sure if anyone noticed. He doesn't flail on the rails when you use the boost. Or that he jumps higher and can air boost, stomp better, etc. Not as stiff, either. Although this could also mean that Unleashed is polished like an MGS game.

I give it 2 more years until all of daytime is ported. Then either SEGA capitalizes on the idea of an Unleashed PC port, or insane folk in the modding community actually manage to port Werehog.
At this point I wouldn’t be shocked in we got Werehog in the next few years, hopefully SEGA makes a remaster that doesn’t suck though
I mean after Colors Ultimate i have more faith on a port mod rather than an in-house/outsourced remaster.

I did wish the game had unleashed jump pads and interceptor and stuf. I think if they had that it's pretty much a complete experience. Even the chaser robots don't use previous attacks like electric and fire traps. In unleashed project we were gonna get originally I think but the Devs scrapped it cus they didn't wanna do it anymore
i legitimately thought pulling off QSS in Generations was impossible
I have several questions:
1. Why hasn't anyone been able to implement the Werehog gameplay in Generations to have a more full Unleashed experience?
2. Why hasn't anyone been able to add more playable characters and have them count as more characters to play without replacing Sonic or Classic Sonic?
3. Why hasn't anyone been able to add more levels in Generations without replacing the existing ones?
They aren't developers, they're modders. There's only so much that can be done without the source code, no matter the version.

1. requires a lot of disassembly work of the original code and this game to understand how it works. Mario 64 mod is the closest that I've seen yet

3. Generations technically can run stages outside of its main ones, but they won't track scores and other stats. I've done this already ages ago with my QuickBoot mod, and it thinks it's running an unknown stage if you do this. This one seems kinda easy to mod in so I'm not sure why hasn't anybody done it yet.

Would it be possible to bring back the QTEs? I know that some Generations demo had them functional, but the QTE ramps apparently never worked.
Someone is working on it. Brianuuu or someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is Skyth or PTKickas*.

How can you tell it's Generations? Rooftop Run has the confetti, Unleashed didn't have confetti in the original level, the confetti was placed probably as a reference to the Generations version.
Awesome work! I do have a question though. what mod are you using for unleashed sonic? The boost looks different compared to pure SU v2.

Question : Why there is a spring instead of jumpselector in 2:12???

@@TheKoldK1 I tested it, and found a solution. If you set that jumpselctor's ischangepath to yes from no in xml file, sonic goes correctly.
@@Starlight0617 ok that definitely did not do any well because a: Sonic will go to the other spline that’s right next to it if in the chance that you fail and b: It will mess up another camera just above that section if you make the light speed dash
This is nice, but needs: More motion blur & the drifting is not sloppy enough
How to qss with boost? Mine only works without boost
If you can port anything from unleashed in to generations, that means you could port QTEs

For some reason whenever I try to play Jungle Joyride, there is no music only sound effects.
I downloaded a mod for my generations it was O6 and I played city escape with no music it just shows how weird it is when you hear a metal skateboard grinding on the floor

its so accurate, but something makes the game look inferior to unleashed, dunno what it is, but doesn't look good like unleashed, maybe it might be the shaders

everyone is saying the only way to tell apart is the fact there's no QTEs but if you had a close eye you would notice that sonic would fall faster than usual at this part 1:18

The acceleration is high and the camera is a little zoomed out.
