  • BB-44DP Deep Purple is a a robotic octopus with a very limited release in June; although I expect that it’ll be more widely released a little later on this year, as has been the case for other limited figures like BB-16MD Meltdown and MB-22MO Kirin Ink.
It comes with cool bonus items in a custom package, including a custom Box Charger, a stand with a one of a kind color scheme and its counterpart, Mother Brain.
Overall it’s a really nice figure with a lot of great figures and amazing articulation, although mine did arrive with some minor manufacturing defects.

*FYI:* I did tweak Deep Purple’s lore slightly for the intro, to make it a little more dramatic, linguistically:
    Update:
    _Nobody knows whether it exists_
_Its zealots are actively spreading the word of its advent_
_They firmly believe that when he arrives_
_The fires of the heavens will be extinguished_
    _And all are rendered silent_
    Original:
_Nobody knows whether it exists or not, but its zealots are_
    _actively spreading the words_
    _about its advent._
    _They firmly believe that when_
    _Deep Purple truly comes,_
    _all stars dim and everything_
    _quiets down._

Cool - hope you get 'em soon! I've had a Floyd and a Shovelhead for over a month and have yet to break them out of their boxes. 🫤

2 things 1. you should leave the front and back tentacles for last, if you do the middle 4 first and close the head down first, itll make doing the front and back tentacles alot easier, so you dont gotta worry about them moving out of place. 2. i just got my orbitol(one of the new gold fishes) in the mail today(which im really happy about, it wasnt supposed to come until like the 27th, so it came like 10 days early, gonna order the other 2 gold fishes today, i wnated to wait and see how reliable alliexpress is for myself, sadly the cardbored box it comes in was a little damaged, nothing major, but the figure its self and the other stuff it comes with was not damage at all)

I've transformed it several times in the order I show in this video without any issues - which is the same order the instructions show how to do it. But I'll have to try it the way you suggested! It's certainly another option for anyone who might have trouble getting things lined up.
Cool about the goldfish. 😎👍 I have yet to order those, but I suspect I'll wind up buying all three at the same time. Glad your figure wasn't damaged; I've heard some on/off complaints about their Aliexpress merch getting damaged during shipping, but on the plus side they ship _insanely_ fast. I got this Deep Purple in 10 or 11 days!

@@XMattingly ya the instructs for these can be kinda weird at times, like the goldfish for example the instructions makes no sense(to me atleast) and they only show how to transform it 1 way, idk if i got like a miss print or what, but like it shows how to make it into a box, but dosnt show for the beast mode(its kinda weird to explain, but if/when you get the goldfish, youll see what i mean, its really strange

@@unknownunknown-cd7rx Sometimes those instructions aren't 100% accurate, and depending on the figure, some require you to follow the _exact_ transformation steps... kind of a mixed bag, but that's not surprising given how complex many of these are. Like you mentioned with Deep Purple, there is certainly a little bit of flexibility with the order parts need to be moved.

Is there a non limited edition version of this or only the $200ish dollar version?

    • @XMattingly
      @XMattingly  Год назад +1

The standard version is a white and red fella called Old One; it's pretty widely available. I haven't seen what 3rd party dealers are asking for Deep Purple, but $200?!? Yikes. 😬 If you _really_ want this specific figure, I might suggest holding off for a few months to see if they offer it for sale again, maybe in the fall or toward the holidays. There were only about 90 pieces available initially, and 52Toys sometimes releases rare figures for sale in small batches. That's actually how I got ahold of a Vaporwave!

@@XMattingly Sometimes a line of toys just really stands out as something worth trying to collect. Certainly not going to try and complete anything but maybe try and get one of every mould that i like. Im probably going to pass on the beastdrive though.
In Australia we have limited stock at Amazon otherwise its through their official aliexpress store so ill be making careful choices.
And the cube design means less room needed for display and storage which i lo lve

@@the13th Definitely; this series was a “pandemic discovery”, for me. I’m pretty much the same way; for a few molds I went a little nuts and got a few versions, but by large I’m not a completionist. If you’re making a list of the ones you want, I would suggest as a _general_ rule to start with the lower-numbered figures that you want first, & work your way forward. You never know when they’ll completely disappear from the market… very generally speaking, you’ll probably see around 2 years of reasonable availability for standard releases. 52Toys’ Aliexpress store has been exceptionally reliable, for me. There have been some complaints about beat up packages, but I haven’t experienced that. They ship ridiculously fast and their customer service is really good.
As far as storage, yep it’s hard to beat cubes! 😁 Display will take up more space than you might think (some figures have a pretty big footprint). You’ll be better off with something long and/or tall like a book or curio shelf than a display case that’s as deep as it is wide, like a Detolf.
