- An Evening With Smokey Robinson, an hour-long, PBS-TV live-to-tape interview program provided an inside look into the life and career of Motown legend Smokey Robinson. Taped on October 10, 2009 in front of a packed audience at Northwestern University Law School’s Thorne Auditorium, An Evening With Smokey Robinson featured PBS-TV veteran journalist Gwen Ifill as the host and former Motown executive and film producer Suzanne de Passe as Mistress of Ceremonies. The program also featured musical tributes from Grammy Award nominated artists Teena Marie, Howard Hewett, and Musiq Soulchild. To conclude the program, Smokey Robinson performed his hit song “Cruisin’” with the evening’s three musical guests.

I took singing lessons in 2014 in PA. I sang in concert hall there & got alot of applause. Owner of Music Store where I had taken the lessons made a CD. I sounded just like the records! I sang Ooh, Baby Baby & Baby, Baby Don't Cry. I moved to Mrytle Beach & my CD was stolen! I want to join a Motown Group as Lead Female Singer. Please send me yr Prayers!!!

I moved too Detroit Michigan a cross the streets from the 21 century fox theater. my husband was a friend of Berry Gordy the owner of Motown . My sister in law Vivian Rhone, played guitar and sang with Aretha Franklin's choir. they needed more singers in their choir, so I filled in. We lived two blocks from Aretha Franklin's Church. that's how my singing career jump started. Rev. James Cleveland who was a friend of Aretha Franklin's father
Rev. C. L. Franklin became my first producer. I got too meet Smoky Robinson and many of the singing artists in both worlds.
In 1981 my two sons and l help too record a double Album with Rev. James Cleveland and the Florida mass choir called be encouraged. When I returned to Florida
Al Rochelle who's now on Bay News 9 was my second producer he would do the productions recordings and film's. All of our Grand Finales, the entire Nine Yards. whatever we needed at Countryside Christian Center. later he went on to Bay News 9. I sang with many of the best, traveling all over the country. From there too the movie industry.
Beautiful memories . . .
I’m up watching this Special Smokey Robinson. I have to say I really enjoyed this. They tore Cruising up. All of them sounded nice. I don’t care if I heard a song for the first time in all of my life, no matter what song it was, I always knew It was Smokey Robinson and I Love All of His Songs . I rehearsed my own voice to Smokey’s songs and the music 🎶 is just so inviting. I Love It ! That’s my Happy Music. Thanks Smokey for all the Joy you gave me through Your Beautiful Songs and Music to the Songs. I’m really eternally grateful. GOD Bless You!

Gwen Ifill was an outstanding news woman and interviewer. Smokey is still one of the most talented singer/songwriters of our time. I still have more of his music than any other singer.
Love Smokey, I remember a song when I was 15 years old." She not a bad girl." I would love to hear someone sing that song. Thank you! I still sing it.
@@mariettaleblanc6681 RIP Gwen IFill.
This is pure class - Gwen Ifil interviewing Smokey - what a pleasure - Gwen doing a fantastic job of this.
I’ll always remember Smokey as the artist that wrote the Temptations first hit, “The Way You Do the Things You Do”.

Smokey was my first love I'm 64 now and he still is 🔥.
I am glad that he corrected Gwen Ifill about the Miracles. His best music was made with the group.
Absolutely Wonderful
This was a fun segment
That clip is from the TAMI show @18:52 not American Bandstand. Smokey & the Miracles did appear on the show back in 1960 performing Shop Around but that footage along with other Bandstand footage was destroyed in a fire.
Stellar show. Fantastic artists and great interview with Smokey by Ms Gwen Ifill. Smokey sounds like he did at 25. Amazing. RIP Teena Marie and Gwen Ifill.

@@velmerbobo1669 Tina Marie the little Black white girl.😁
I so miss Lady T
One of my favorite new channel was PBS i would watch it because of Gwen i miss her, to me she was beautiful.
Love you
Smokey and I have a lot in common.❤
Just saying Howard AMEN!
Love, love, love Smokey !!!!
That was a bad move for Motown
Move to California from Detroit. They should have kept Detroit as a subsidiary company
The real bad move was the company leaders becoming addicted to drugs and gambling and losing the company. Moving to LA was incidental, only a part of the sad dissolution of a once great endeavor.

Twice now I have heard Smokey say their first record was on Tamla, Come to Me by Marv Johnson. Well, here I present the true first record on Rayber Records. Ray* from Raynoma, Smokey's first wife and an instrumental part of launching Motown. Ber* from Berry Gordy. This was written by Smokey and Berry as shown on the label. The label design is exactly the same as the first Tamla records, only orange instead of yellow. The flip side is I Can't Concentrate, also by Wade Jones. ruclips.net/video/249bGXqFRNg/видео.html
