I still think it should have been Ho-oh. Yeah Latias is a Pokemon we all want Ash to catch but Ash saw Ho-oh on his first day. Catching a Pokemon as rare (possibly one of a kind) like Ho-oh would be something that would be fitting to make him a Pokemon master. And a fitting end to his journey.
I think it's way too unrealistic for Ash to catch Ho-oh. It's to OP... why would he need any other Pokémon if he has Ho-oh. We saw Ash defeating legendaries like Latios and Darkrai, but a Pokémon like Ho-oh is in a way different league.
Exactly why he should catch Ho-Oh then. Tobias caught Darkrai but Darkrai was seen later with Cresselia and why tf should he have Darkrai and Latios anyways? Plot Armor to go to Unova but Tobias lost against Cynthia or even The Elite Four Anyways.
I think Latias will help Ash against Ho-Oh and he gets them both. He should 100 % catch Ho-Oh. He is The World Champion and it's Poetry.
Also this latias is not that movie one, I ain't interested 😦

I felt Lugia could have been a good candidate for Ash to catch towards the end, based on its rarity and being more actively involved with Ash. Also, Lugia's color patterns fit well with Ash.
For Ash, a Pokemon Master is one who can connect and relate effectively with Pokemon. One is a master not because one can subject Pokemon but rather treat them with care and respect (as against Paul before finally getting beaten). This way, the master helps a Pokemon unlock its potential and capabilities.
Excited to see how Ash will catch latias and what the plot will be in the episode leading to his first legendary catch.

The idea of Ash catching a shiny Latias would be totally the best thing ever! Thinking about the idea of how the end of Ash and Pikachu's adventure would be if he finally caught a shiny legendary sounds brilliant! Of course, even though it probably won't happen, normal form Latias is still 100% perfect for him. I'm still praying he's going to capture it, and we only have just 6 episodes left of Aim To Be a Pokémon Master, so I'm really hoping! Great video ThePokeRaf.

I’m totally fine with Ash catching Latias (as I did the same thing in my FanFiction) but wouldn’t it also be cool if he caught Ho-Oh? It was the first Legendary Pokemon he saw when he began his journey, so catching it would be the perfect way to end it (that and marrying Serena). Just my opinion though.

Gold symbolizes generosity and compassion (this fits Ash's character)
And yellow symbolizes "happiness, hope and spontaneity. Yellow is a color that's happy and youthful color, and it grabs your attention with its hope and positivity."
Seeing Ash bond with many pokemon, go on many adventures with his friends (even one-off characters), and accomplish a lot of achievements is what makes Ash really special. With him finally understanding what a Pokemon Master is (as the title of the series suggested) would make a lot of sense to the said colors I described. A shiny Latias would definitely be a nice achievement showing how much Ash has grown during his journey.

It sucks that ash might catch the Legendary but we as fans want seen much battling from ash and the Legendary. Hopefully ash return with a new Arc and voice actor with a deeper voice and older ash.

Well Ash already has a Shiny Pokémon in the form of Noctowl so it be fine if Latias wasn't.

As far as I remember, Latias hasn't been seen (canonically) since M05, when one smooched him. The fact that they waited until now tells me there's no way he won't add one to his roster.
