I don't think the "Kane should have never taken the mask off" people remember that in 2002 Kane was nowhere near as scary as he was in 1997. There is absolutely nothing scary about Masked Kane in 2003, that character was dying.
Undertaker post streak should have leaned back into the occult/horror side of the character. Have him make a Ministry of Darkness 2 with Bray and have Undertaker be a final boss of sorts. That way Taker doesn’t have as many bad matches and Bray gets a stronger direction going forward
And the real number one: Sting 2015. This one's a no brainier. The Renegade Sting arrived at 2014's Survivor Series main event to throw a monkey wrench in The Authority's plans to an uproarious reaction. (Unlike some people, I believe that MOST wrestling fans knew Sting, so not that much education was needed.) He came in like a bawse. Booked pretty good right up till Wrestlemania, where the wheels came off the bus headed for the orphanage. Stinger SHOULD'VE won on The Grandest Stage. Then he should have been booked into the championship scene, to win Night Of Champions and to go on to an incredible run where they protect him, ala Roman Reigns circa Bloodline days, special event status. Part time and all loving it. Just look at his AEW schedule. Granted, some of that had to do with injuries, real and kayfabe. But the fed could've booked him the same way.
Right He may not have been WWE Champ that year, but he was still a huge threat to the biggest stars on SmackDown in Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle And he even took the U.S. Title from Eddie Guerrero who was becoming the most beloved babyface on SmackDown
How did you mention HHH in 1996 without mentioning the Curtain call? Supposedly Hunter was punished for this and it cost him winning that year's King of the Ring. It was won by Chilly McFreeze instead and it did wonders for his career.
Kane taking off his mask to reveal not a physically scarred man but an emotionally scarred man who just thinks he’s physically scarred was not the move.
Where wrestling is different from regular TV and Hollywood movies, is that the performers are the same character continuously for years (sometimes decades) at a time, depending on its success. They couldn't subject Glenn Jacobs to the seven-eight hour make-up jobs that say, Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger endured for each Elm Street film years apart for the nearly 300-days-a-year wrestling schedule. And he WANTED the mask to come off due to the discomfort and breathing issues during matches, which is why the humanised Kane (2002-03) wore a half-mask to begin with, and why the 2011-21 version had the same shape. THAT fully-masked Michael Myers/Jason 1997-2002 aura was already gone...

Ortons issue is, unlike HHH and Cena, Orton kept wresting full time after already having over a dozen world titles. So you cant just keep having him in main event circles and have him get to 20 world title reigns, or just job out every title match. So he has to do silly stuff like the Wyatt family and teaming with Riddle. However, with Riddle, I'd argue as tag champs that was the most over he'd ever been! He was the best mic worker in WWE during that run, running over everyone in his path, especially the bloodline.
I don’t normally disagree with you Simon, I respect your opinion and you know more than me about this stuff as a wrestler yourself. However, undertaker no matter what was never just one of the guys after Brock beat him.
I think Randy Orton in 2017 when he was just a pawn in the Shane McMahon/KOSZ feud at that time, consistently teaming with Nakamura for no other reason than their boss told them to
The Undertaker’s worst period was the Unholy Alliance era. The few months between Ministry of Darkness and American Badass (both bad as well). He couldn’t wrestle because he was injured so he just kind of managed Big Show. Terrible.
